Common Questions and Answers about Sleep deprivation bipolar

Avatar m tn I already was struggling with poor sleep due to sleep apnea that was undiagnosed at the time. At work my responsibilities increased and I was constantly rehashing in my mind the various decisions I had to make in selecting and writing specs for a data management software conversion. Then an extended family member was killed in the military and I had to plan the local service while the parents were out of state at the memorials on the base.
Avatar m tn Obstructive Sleep Apnea is unlikely to cause hallucinations, but and they can occur with certain medications, stress, sleep deprivation, in certain brain disorders and with schizophrenia or bipolar disorders. So, like you mentioned sleep deprivation can cause hallucinations. But if they persist, I would advise you to discuss your symptoms with your primary care physician for further evaluation. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
1707167 tn?1307807539 The very first time I saw shrink I was been diagnosed with bipolar, anxiety, depression and OCD. That was about 5 or 6 years ago. I now see a different psychiatrist (who is AWSOME!) and he says he's on the fence as to whether I'm bipolar or not. I don't know what would consist of the "or not" but I am still being treated as bipolar. Most everything I have read about bipolar doesn't really fit.
1549468 tn?1345468736 I have been like this my whole life, yet it seems to be getting worse as I age. I have been having seizures that are also getting worse, but sleep deprivation causes that. I am frustrated... I am tired... I am ready to crash...
Avatar m tn What you are experiencing could be hallucinations and delusions and they can occur with certain medications, stress, sleep deprivation, in certain brain disorders and with schizophrenia or bipolar disorders. When sleep paralysis happens in sleep the person has difficulty moving his hands or feet. This is the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. Avatar f tn I just started back on Abilify and ambien (temporarily for sleep) after being off meds for 10 days. I am taking 10mg which is an increase from the 5mg that i was on. I was experiencing psychosis, paranoia, anxiety, and sleep deprivation. I'm not sure how my mood was at the time. When i went to my psychiatrist he mentioned Schizoaffective disorder but did not diagnose me with it.
1794093 tn?1357930759 I definitely understand the sleep deprivation. It really ***** :( I work overnights and have a terrible time trying to sleep during the morning/afternoons. Im also up every hour, or hour and a half, then still manage to work/do things around the house. I always thought the 2nd trimester was supposed to be the best, sure i dont feel sick anymore, but this has been brutal for sleep. Thats exciting about your ultrasound coming up, and really exciting that you are not finding out the gender!
1926359 tn?1331588139 m going down by a third a week-the doc said this was ambitious but I really want to be free so there you have it. If I can get a few nights good sleep I will be prepared to deal with the sleep deprivation again....Ugh. So easy to put in your body...so hard to get out. Wish me luck with the sleep fairies tonight....
Avatar f tn As a teenager I went through a year of sleep deprivation. I got about six hours of sleep a night. I felt very sleepy every day and even had feelings of confusion and derealization. Did I cause any permanent damage to my brain? In addition, has damage caused by oxidative stress and free radicals irreversibly increased my cancer risk?

Avatar f tn There have been a lot of studies done that show what sleep deprivation can do to kids. One of the strong correlations is to ADHD like behaviors. Point being is that lack of sleep can cause these problems. And I would guess that her situation also causes problems. You might want to look into a series of books that are called the best behavior series an example is "hands are not for hitting" found here - http://www.amazon.
Avatar m tn Over the past week or two, for the first time in my life, I've been experiencing visual hallucinations -- vivid, lifelike images that scare the he** out of me. This tends to happen in the evening or nighttime when I happen to awaken. I'll notice a person in my room, just standing there and staring at me. I kind of notice it out of the corner of my eye. Then, I stare right at the image...and it immediately vanishes.
899491 tn?1243773627 This is very important that you get it right. Sleep deprivation is one major trigger for a manic episode. I would be interested to know what solution you finally choose to follow.
Avatar n tn There not sure why warm milk help sleep as tryptophan only helps with the initial cycle of sleep but can disrupt deep sleep, but you may want to try it to help you get to sleep initially just only drink a small glass. There is something called Lactium in milk which relaxes infants but there is an all natural medication called dreamerz food that contains a consentrated amount of Lactium(enough for an adult) along with melatonin that has gotten alot of great attention.
Avatar f tn Hello there, it is difficult to say because even in a completely healthy person sleep-deprivation can cause depression/moodiness/even symptoms of psychosis. So first of all your sleep problem needs to be monitored & corrected by a professional. Once it's figured out, things can be taken further from there. I wish you the best.

4316751 tn?1352696914 But please try to get some help and catch up on your sleep. It could just be that you are tired and need more sleep. Just give yourself more time to sleep/rest. This may help with your symptoms. If it still persists consult your doctor. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the Metabolic Syndrome article, that adds another piece to the puzzle. I know stress and anxiety are bad for the body and mind, and bipolar gives me plenty of those. Most studies I found cannot determine if mood manifests changes in the metabolism or if metabolism changes trigger moods, including the above article. The mood switching process studies show circadian rhythms change with mood, but they can't tell whether the sleep deprivation or the mania come first.
