645800 tn?1466860955 I had submitted an appeal on the disability rating the VA gave me for my service connected hearing loss. My contention was that due to my MS / PTSD that the effects of my hearing loss were greater than the VA was saying they are in the real world. According to the VA rules if a S/C disability make some other Non- S/C disability worse it becomes also S/C. Last week I found a hearing place that tested for Auditory Processing Disorder.
Avatar m tn the fact i got injured and the MS occurred while on active duty and the VA recognizes this, then the disability rating of MS and what secondary issues i get listed, i can request retro pay beginning from that date, 1986. weird isn't it, that non-doctors ended up granting and calling the dx MS. that is, the VA ratings folks. the VA doctors/system saw the same tests and history for years and simply dismissed it, etc.
Avatar f tn My phsychiatrist tells me that my Bipolar disorder and my ADHD are a direct result of my Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. At this moment my VA disability rating is being raised (hopefully) because my SLE is a service connected disability and the Bipolar disorder and ADHD are secondary conditions resulting from the lupus and require further review and a higher disability rating.
1829048 tn?1318049790 Is all Sleep Apnea considered a disability? It seems that if you need a machine to sleep (or help with airway constriction), then that is a severe condition. I am new to this and dont know what is considered serious or not.
Avatar n tn I am a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and have a 10% disability rating and qualified. I am also almost positive you don't have to have any sort of disability rating to qualify especially being a combat Veteran. Let me know if you need any help or have any questions. Best of luck!
675718 tn?1530033033 I recently retired because of this illness and other serious mental disorders. My anxiety is through the roof, followed by sleep apnea and losing time. I am on medication, but again suffer from obesity. We can go to the moon, but eradicating some of these put upon emotional illnesses is far from solvable. I hope we can get help. It's difficult to read a book or walk around and even talk to others when you suddenly flash back to the awful abuse you suffered.
Avatar n tn My bowels became inflamed when I was 17 and in the service. I receive the maximum disability rating from the va because it was so severe. I'm fairly certain this is an autoimmune condition but I've never had a proper definitive diagnosis. I still have loose stools regularly but for the most part I can take 2 7.5/325 hydrocondones and it will slow it down. Heck every once in a while it's solid. Thats a big deal for me! Every once in a while my colon will flare and poop blood.
645800 tn?1466860955 Today I got a letter from the VA concerning my application for disability. It kind of had me a little confused as it only concerned my hearing problems and not any of the other things I had applied for disability for. Next week I will go up there to see if I can find out why they only did the hearing in this letter. The end result is that they gave me "service connection" for my hearing loss at 0%. This means that I can get free treatment for it, but no monetary compensation.
1472685 tn?1286892722 Having said that, if you have damage from HCV and can establish service connection, you may be able to get a disability rating. To establish a service connection, you need to show either evidence of infection while you were on active duty or be able to show that your service was "more likely than not" the cause of infection. We all went through a thorough physical when we came on active duty.
Avatar m tn Thank you for the information.
Avatar f tn Veterans may be eligible for disability compensation and health care benefits for diseases that VA has recognized as related to exposure to Agent Orange or other herbicides. Surviving spouses, dependent children and dependent parents of Veterans who were exposed to Agent Orange and died as the result of diseases related to Agent Orange exposure may be eligible for survivors' benefits.
1551126 tn?1294093142 I also believe I have PTSD due to the night sweats and problems sleeping associated with the sleep apnea(Possible Brain System Damage)? Which they negate. Along with that I have a constant numbous to the back of the head where it struck the truck and ground along with mood swings like a bypolar type ailment. You have been helpful in my quest for answers as I have studied this in detail from Johns Hopkins to the Mayo clinic.
529159 tn?1224991026 Hi everyone. Has anyone heard of a connection between having Fibro and sleep apnea? I know we Fibro folks suffer from sleep disturbances but this is the first time I've had a doctor apply the apnea to Fibro. Out of much frustration over my extreme fatigue, my rheumatologist referred me to a pulmonary specialist to do a sleep study. He said something I found interesting and had never heard before.
Avatar m tn Hi there, I was in a car accident in January-my fault(my neurologist thinks I had a seizure but won't confirm for sure). I had an concussion for over a week (slurred speech, memory loss, falling down, exhaustion, thought I had the ability to keep doing tasks, etc...) A CAT scan was done and everything came back normal. A month or so later I woke up talking jibberish that was completley incoherent to my wife, confused and exhausted. I slept for three day's straight.
Avatar f tn So I had one of the worst nights ever. I literally did not sleep. My neurologist at the VA gave me a prescrip (butalbital) for when I have a severe onset of a migraine. Like when I'm driving and it hits suddenly so awful it actually makes me jump like someone is stabbing me thru the top of my head into my eye. Well it has a barbituate in it and it was the first time I took it. I took it about 1-2 hrs before bedtime.

Avatar m tn Department of Veterans Affairs is one of the slowest in the nation newsnet5 Cleveland I have secondary progressive Multiple sclerosis (MS) and am on Social Security Disability. My VA Disability claim is 211 days old. Unfortunately, I can not speak with anyone at the VA concerning my claim. The 800 number is NOT knowledgeable! 18 Feb 2014 - Informed by VA 800 number -said that she did not "know if they were working on my claim.
906843 tn?1245208894 I have found this to work to my advantage, it was there that my Chairi malformation was diagnosed -- if surgery is ever needed it can be done at the VA - my disability rating is high enough that my cost will be very minimal at best...
Avatar m tn I am currently unemployed due to my rating and about to become 100% va unemployed with social security disability due to my disorders. I have no medical care beside VA so anything beyond VA would be out of my on pocket.
645800 tn?1466860955 Hi Dennis, out of curiosity, did you request to see this type specialty doctor to get statements of disability or did the VA out of the blue set this appt up? if you need statements of disability could not your VA neuro write statements in your be half? i've never asked a VA doctor for this so i'm curious.
Avatar f tn Hi, Complex sleep apnea is actually a combination of both obstructive and central sleep apnea seen in some patients. Patients with complex sleep apnea at first appear to have obstructive sleep apnea and stop breathing 20 to 30 times per hour each night. But unlike typical obstructive sleep apnea patients, their breathing problem is not completely alleviated by a CPAP (continuous airway pressure) machine.
1271743 tn?1320892461 What exactly does 35% impairment rating mean? This was included in a letter of permanment disability after my ankle fusion surgery.
Avatar n tn year old lady and long-term suffer of asthma, do not smoke and have never smoked, who as just been diagnosed with slightly hyper-inflated lungs, it was also noted on my CT scan and X-ray that I had scarring and air-blockage at the bottom of my right lung due to the asthma becoming fixed. Will this worsen over time and what can I do to prevent it. I am currently on ventolin/inhaled steroids and have a FEV rating of 93% would this class as COPD and should I be as worried about it as I am??
