Avatar f tn I felt better within a 2 week period. I was more rested, because I was going into the restful stage of sleep. If I don't use my machine, I wake up after about 2-3hrs of sleep. The past 6-8 weeks, I was awake for 24 hrs straight about 2 nights a week. A part of my mask was broken and I had the part sent to me, but it was the wrong one. I finally got a whole new mask. It was more than time. I was lost didn't know what day it was or if it was night or day. Total confusion.
1016618 tn?1420553262 Went and filed for VA Medical benefits today. They said I make to much money but they also said I could file for help cause I was a veteran of the Vietnam era. I was in the Marine Corps from 1972 to 1975. Anyone get any assistance from the VA that is under like circustance?

1580703 tn?1651904887 I have moderate asthma FEV1 70 and desat to 70% during sleep. hopefully it should help my asthma and sleep apnea but I have a shiley 6 which makes it difficult to breathe This discussion is related to tracheotomy.
Avatar n tn That depends. Do you have a copy of your sleep study results? If you have mild sleep apnea, there is a possibility a dental device could help, but those are expensive too. Some are helped with surgery, but many find after surgery they still need cpap. Hardly anyone gets used to wearing a mask to breathe in a night or two. Some take weeks and have to try several masks to get one that's right for them. But the benefits from toughing it out till adjusted make it worth the effort...
Avatar m tn These relaxation techniques will help you with sleep apnea naturally. Do it with concentration and with eyes closed. Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.
Avatar f tn I was recently told I might have central sleep apnea but not what it involves. I was sent home from the hospital with a temporary cpap and am being scheduled for a sleep study. I am having trouble using the cpap machine. I am afraid to sleep as the doctor did say that with this apnea the brain forgets to tell you to breath. They said my oxygen levels dropped to 64 during the night. I have developed swollen legs, ankles and feet.
Avatar f tn So I had one of the worst nights ever. I literally did not sleep. My neurologist at the VA gave me a prescrip (butalbital) for when I have a severe onset of a migraine. Like when I'm driving and it hits suddenly so awful it actually makes me jump like someone is stabbing me thru the top of my head into my eye. Well it has a barbituate in it and it was the first time I took it. I took it about 1-2 hrs before bedtime.
Avatar m tn They told Craig he has moderate to severe sleep apnea and needs a CPAP immediately. So it is arriving tomorrow. It is the size of a laptop computer and has a "smart card" in it that records data during the night while the person is sleeping. We then take the card to each follow up appt and they will download the information on it. Anyway, the sleep doctor was telling me that many problems could be caused by sleep apnea.

1551126 tn?1294093142 I also believe I have PTSD due to the night sweats and problems sleeping associated with the sleep apnea(Possible Brain System Damage)? Which they negate. Along with that I have a constant numbous to the back of the head where it struck the truck and ground along with mood swings like a bypolar type ailment. You have been helpful in my quest for answers as I have studied this in detail from Johns Hopkins to the Mayo clinic.
Avatar n tn It is not unheard of to buy a machine online and treat oneself for obstructive sleep apnea. With the data capable and auto titrating machines, generally speaking, one can tell if the treatment is effective. (With a basic machine, you are shooting in the dark.) Here's the downside to self treatment. If one has central sleep apnea or complex sleep apnea, you wouldn't know that and your treatment may not be effective.
Avatar m tn I am now a type 2 diabedic, high blood psi, sleep apnea and have severe depression. I have been told that all thease are a progression as my liver got worse I also was diagnosed with a fatty liver (my liver biopsy showed fatty liver in 1991) How can I find out the condition of my liver now?
Avatar f tn Snoring does often accompany sleep apnea, but just because you snore does not mean you have sleep apnea and vice versa. Minor sleep apnea is responsive to self-help remedies such as losing weight, eliminating the use of alcohol, tobacco, and sedatives; sleeping on your side, and regularizing your sleep hours. It would be best to see a sleep specialist for proper management and to ease your worries. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar n tn I just read your post and maybe I'm wrong, but it seriously angered me. Why would you qualify for VA benefits?! It sounds like you didn't complete your training and as soon as you re-enlisted, you were dx. If this has been an ongoing issue, you should be medically discharged but w/o VA benefits. My parents, husband and myself were in service all three retired except for myself. They are all eligible for VA because they completed their time in service. Good luck to you.
Avatar n tn I'm not sure about the seeing things, but your heart rate being up could be linked to why you feel scared. And it could possibly be sleep apnea. Waking up frequently may also be a sign of sleep apnea, though one does not have to do this in order to have it. A reason you may be waking up could be because your brain is realizing that you are not getting enough oxygen, and this causes you to wake up. Your heart rate being up could also be due to lack of oxygen.
649848 tn?1534633700 By JUAN CARLOS LLORCA EL PASO, Texas (AP) — A counselor at the local Veterans Affairs office looked at Rebecca King, a victim of domestic violence and abuse who was seeking help for depression, and told her she would not be able to see a psychologist. She looked too nice and put together for someone depressed, King was told. Like others who've failed to receive help at troubled VA offices, the Army veteran then gave up.
Avatar n tn I am trying to find a link to med given to me by the military that may have caused sleep apnea. a friend said he read that some of the shots given to us before we went to the persian gulf could cause sleep apnea.
645800 tn?1466860955 The way the VA benefits system is set up is the main problem. Each state has a VBA (Veterans Benefit Administration) that sets up its own practices of how they will evaluate claims. I'm sure that if the claim for my diabetes had been handled in TN i would not have gotten the service connection for it. Luckily I filed the claim in Maine and therefor got it. Basically the TN VBA is anti Vet when it comes to benefits.
Avatar n tn I was treated unsuccessfully at a va hospital for hcv and developed cirrohsis.I just dropped my ppo insurance by stating I did not live in the service area any longer.I just received a bill for 9 months dues.I never used it,so decided to get rid of it.The va doctor only said I had five years and he would make yearly appointments for me.So could I of handled this better?Death seems to be the only thing you hear associted with the insurance companies.
222135 tn?1236488221 t even lay down to sleep without my machine because I know sleep apnea means I stop breathing. My night at the study with the machine was horrible. Now it's all just routine.
612551 tn?1450022175 The pillow was found to be an effective and easily used treatment for mild (respiratory disturbance index [RDI] 5 to 19) and moderate (RDI 20 to 40) obstructive sleep apnea and snoring. In turn it helped to increase the REM stage of sleep and increased oxygen saturations. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn i was diagnosed with sleep apnea after sleep studies was done and i do not snore at all but i do snort from it
