Common Questions and Answers about Sleep apnea natural remedies

Avatar m tn I get anxious during the day and have a rough time sleeping at night. My mind doesn't stop. I been on a sleep apnea machine for about 2 years and it doesn't help anymore. I told my sleep apnea NP and she told me we could do another sleep apnea study. I have a friend that went through the same problem and her doctor prescribed an anxiety medication. So since mine doesn't want to prescribe a medication I thought I could try a over the counter solution.
Avatar f tn Snoring does often accompany sleep apnea, but just because you snore does not mean you have sleep apnea and vice versa. Minor sleep apnea is responsive to self-help remedies such as losing weight, eliminating the use of alcohol, tobacco, and sedatives; sleeping on your side, and regularizing your sleep hours. It would be best to see a sleep specialist for proper management and to ease your worries. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know any good natural remedies that have helped anxiety?? I've been hoping that with eating well and some good exercise, I could beat it. I guess I'd probably be a lot worse without it, but I'm still tense. The strange thing is that I don't have anything in particular that I feel should cause me any stress but I feel anxious far too often. What works for you?
1054090 tn?1343965695 If you do have sleep apnea, the treatment is that you will sleep with a CPAP machine. It stands for Continuos Positive Air Pressure. You wear a mask that blows air down your passages to keep them from closing when you sleep. Cause when they close is when you stop breathing. Id it is determined you have sleep apnea it is vital that you wear the cpap eveytime!! You can die from sleep apnea just as easily as a baby can die from sids.
5426152 tn?1382129604 I woke up with a cold. I am due on Sunday but my OB did a strech and sweep yesterday and said I'll likely go into labor this week. I've been having my bloody show/ loosing my plug all day so I know the clock is ticking and labor is soon. I am allergic to cold medicines so that is not an option. Any suggestions for natural remedies to help me shake this? So far I've done a sinus rinse twice, drank lemon and honey and gargled with salt water. I do not want to labor with a cold!
400764 tn?1201418583 Have you done the sleep study ? I am worried for the anxiety you have regarding Sleep apnea. Death is a very distant complication. Please keep us posted.

Avatar f tn Anyone have any natural remedies I can use to get rid of a cold? I'm going crazy!
Avatar n tn My husband has been on Xyrem since the fall of 2005. He now has a considerable amount of central sleep apnea and is being removed from Xyrem to prove that the apnea is indeed coming from the drug. He was diagnosed with narcolepsy, but I have never been real convinced of that because he has always been sleep deprived and depressed. The depression he would not admit until just the last year, and with him it is an "off-limits" subject.
Avatar n tn s a good book on 5-HTP by, I think, Michael Moore, and a good book on natural remedies for this stuff called Natural Highs by Hyla Cass, a psychiatrist at UCLA.
Avatar f tn My most helpful things: 1) Anti-inflamatory diet. Can't say enough good about this. No stabbing pain since the diet change. I have lost 10 lbs. and feel really good. 2) Pro-biotics. 40 bucks at a health food store. Re-introducing all the good bacteria that the anti-biotics destroyed along with the bad. I feel like it is restoreing my immune system. 3) Calcium Benzonite Clay. (or healing clay) also from a Health Food Store. Applied to the breast like a poltice. Draws the infection out.
Avatar n tn Benzos are often prescribed for sleep problems, at least if this website is any guide, but they're not designed for that. You build a tolerance to them, and all drugs that affect the mind alter the quality of sleep. They're really best used for what they're intended, which is to treat anxiety. There are many avenues you can try, therapy and sleep clinics being two of the most obvious.
Avatar f tn Before I was diagnosed with Graves' I almost always used natural tinctures for any problem I had. I used a relaxing sleep tonic, a valerian and passionflower compound and I used it nightly with no side-effects/addiction...and it always worked great. However, you should ALWAYS talk to a doctor about any supplements/vitamins/over the counter meds...whatever, when you are "mixing" medicines.
Avatar m tn Hi, Poor sleep quality can occur as a result of sleep apnea or clinical depression. Poor sleep quality is caused by the individual not reaching stage 4 or delta sleep which has restorative properties. Major depression leads to alterations in the function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, causing excessive release of cortisol which can lead to poor sleep quality. In many cases, insomnia is caused by another disease or psychological problem.
9780765 tn?1405910914 They will be able to diagnose quite a bit from the study. I happen to have sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and have dealt with bouts of seizures.. which Thank God, I was able to alleviate (the seizures) through just diet change. My alternative medicine work up indicated that I had some intolerance to both yeast and dairy. I had to have the sleep study 3 times before the diagnosis for apnea (Central) came through.. and I'm glad it did as it is a life saver for me.
Avatar m tn t know what they are doing. They sell CPAP machines when sleep apnea can be corrected by natural means. They pump you full of dangerous off label psychiatric drugs that don't put you to sleep. With the complexities and extremes inherent with my condition, I find the doctors scared, confused, and by no means equipped to deal with this.
Avatar n tn My doctor recommended it as a natural alternative to elavil (not natural). 5-HTP is a natural precursor to serotonin (good feeling hormone). Start with 50 mg at bedtime. Might need 100mg though. Also, take magnesium at bedtime, perhaps 400mg. You can double that if you need to, just watch for loose bowels if you take too much. Magnesium relaxes the muscles. Also, I use the bio-identical progesterone cream too.
Avatar f tn I certainly don't mean to be smug, but have you not consulted your doctor about your insomnia? If you have tried all the "natural" remedies and your doctor has exhausted his supply of magic pills, then you may need to undergo a sleep study to find the cause of your sleeplessness. I can relate.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I have GERD/sleep apnea and woke up hyperventilating for years. Is there a treatment for it? Is protonix the best treatment for GERD? I've been taking nexium, zantac, but still have this terrible sleep apnea. maybe I need nexium at 80mg. I would wake up choking once after eating spicy food and also have hot flashes This discussion is related to Acid reflux.
Avatar f tn The first thing would be to make sure that he is getting a good nights sleep. Apnea really increases hyperactivity.
