Avatar n tn I'm not sure about the seeing things, but your heart rate being up could be linked to why you feel scared. And it could possibly be sleep apnea. Waking up frequently may also be a sign of sleep apnea, though one does not have to do this in order to have it. A reason you may be waking up could be because your brain is realizing that you are not getting enough oxygen, and this causes you to wake up. Your heart rate being up could also be due to lack of oxygen.
Avatar n tn I really puts a lot of work on your heart. Sleep apnea can cause hypertension which then can cause enlargement of the heart and then heart failure. Your oxygen levels drop when you stop breathing. I forget the number, but a high percentage of patients with heart failure have sleep disordered breathing. If you have sleep apnea and have been physician-ordered to use CPAP, then you really need to do so.
1615999 tn?1307461942 s sleep was much like you describe, but it was back before sleep apnea was even on the radar. Sometimes longstanding sleep apnea can cause changes to the heart that might be evident on autopsy, but is not always the case. Sleep apnea does increase risk of a cardiac event or a stroke when the oxygen levels drop in the blood due to lack of air intake for which the heart tries to compensate. Big stress on the body.
Avatar f tn I have sleep apnea and after using CPAP I still have exhaustion, daytime falling asleep, heart racing. Is the heart racing and feeling of restlessness, due to sleep apnea or something else? I also have high blood pressure, and blood in my stool, GERD, gastritis, asthma. Does it take a long time for CPAP to start working? I was taking some sleeping pills and melatonin. Should I use a full face mask or standard nose mask with CPAP? Thanks very much!

Avatar m tn t have to be overweight or be male to have significant sleep apnea. Young, thin women can have severe sleep apnea. Ultimately, it's an anatomic issue, and weight gain comes in much later. She should undergo a sleep study.
Avatar n tn His sleep doctor prescribed this for sleep apnea. Is this really safe? He is supposed to use his CPAP machine along with the meds., but he has not used the machine in months. Is this really good, safe intelligent treatment for sleep apnea?
1388874 tn?1279780177 You betcha. If you want a definitive answer, then consult your doctor and ask for a sleep study to be done. While sleep apnea is treatable, going untreated isn't a good plan. It is linked with a number of diseases (including heart disease), depression and other symptoms. I know from experience. Of course he might not have sleep apnea, but I think it is worth checking out. A sleep study is completely painless.
Avatar f tn To keep this simple, I was wondering that if I have sleep apnea, then why am I not that tired during the day? Sometimes I only sleep 6 hours or less, get up at 5am, have an hour commute each way and am on my feet for up to 11 hours a day without sitting down. Does this mean that it may be mild? I also have really healthy blood pressure (110 over 70 approx.
Avatar m tn Did you mean that he stops breathing 40 times every hour? If he has obstructive sleep apnea, and stops breathing 40 times every hour, it's in the moderate to severe range. Untreated, it can aggravate or lead to a variety of medical conditions such as high blood pressure, depression, obesity, heart disease, heart attack and stroke. Unfortunately, this condition is a structural problem and needs to be dealt with in a physical manner.
Avatar f tn Researchers evaluated 98 pacemaker patients for sleep apnea. Fifty-nine percent of the patients had undiagnosed sleep apnea and they suffer from sleep disorders. But there is no good research done for sleep apnea in pacemakers users. Also sleep apnea can also be associated with restless leg syndrome, Obesity and upper airway soft tissue abnormalities etc.
1384923 tn?1308410640 Hi, I havent had surgery for chiari but I was dx with sleep apnea 2yrs ago and was prescribed a c-pap machine. Once I felt like was was gona faint and never wake up, very scary. Later on i found out that it is one of the many symptoms of chiari.
Avatar m tn I know sleep apnea can cause anxiety and panic attacks. But can anxiety cause sleep apnea? I have a ventricular aneurysm and PVCs my doctors say are normal. I'm not overweight, I don't drink, not on meds. I've been waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air.
Avatar f tn Hello and hope you are doing well. The palpitations or perception of heart sounds could be due to your thyroid disorder. You have to have your thyroid status assessed for this. In the initial phases of the sleep cycle and while awakening, we tend to be more conscious or alert. If we study the brain waves at these phases they tend to show the alert wave pattern, this could cause the awareness. If it is not interfering with your sleep schedules you don't have to worry.
Avatar m tn I would definitely think it's severe obstructive sleep apnea. Might want to get a referral and have a sleep study done. Sleep apnea can cause strokes. Nothing to mess with.
657236 tn?1224723091 Hi My young daughter was diagnosed with Central Sleep Apnea........ We Have had her on Oxygen therapy, of which it helped to settle the apnea down some. Avatar f tn your PM should stop your heart from going below the set amount they have for you - say 40 bpm, but it will not do anything for your sleep apnea other than pace your heart to that rate; as far as I know with my limited knowledge as a patient I have moderate OSA (1 pt from severe) and a PM/ICD and I still suffer some from episodes; but not often like I used to - I would def discuss with your dr about a sleep study and use a cpap or other treatment if you haven't already (I'm set at 50 bpm
Avatar m tn Great news is, my cardiologist said I have a healthy heart, a low heart rate only means I will live a longer life, also a low heart rate would not cause the symptoms I've complained about, which is chronic fatigue. He said from all the tests peformed, and reviewing my medical records, I developed sleep apnea, due to my enlarged thyroid obstructing my airway while I sleep. He is 100% sure, this is causing my chronic fatigue.
Avatar m tn They told Craig he has moderate to severe sleep apnea and needs a CPAP immediately. So it is arriving tomorrow. It is the size of a laptop computer and has a "smart card" in it that records data during the night while the person is sleeping. We then take the card to each follow up appt and they will download the information on it. Anyway, the sleep doctor was telling me that many problems could be caused by sleep apnea.
Avatar f tn Your heart doctor should talk to your sleep doctor. Even mild sleep apnea should be treated. They've shown that even stopping breathing once every hour is more dangerous than none at all. The official cut off for sleep apnea is 5 apneas or hypopneas every hour. These are total or partial breathing pauses that last 10 seconds or greater. If you've gained weight, it's possible that your sleep apnea is now worse.
400764 tn?1201418583 Have you done the sleep study ? I am worried for the anxiety you have regarding Sleep apnea. Death is a very distant complication. Please keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Your heart stopping for 10 seconds at a time could be from a number of different reasons, but if you have obstructive sleep apnea, it can definitely aggravate any heart problems. You need a sleep study to definitively rule in or rule out obstructive sleep apnea, especially if you're tired in general, can't sleep on your back, and if one or both of your parents snore.
213044 tn?1236527460 m pretty sure (based on discussions w/ me endocrinologist and my gut feeling on being hypo) that hashi hypo is the cause of sleep apnea, as well heart palps, and headaches -- the link between sleep apnea, and headaches and heart issues is definitely one to look into and mention to MD!!!! Thanks for posting this!!!!! Great topic!!
