Common Questions and Answers about Sleep apnea cure

Avatar n tn What is your opinion, do you think the Cpap could be my miracle cure with all these symptoms, but only mild apnea? Can it cure my mild polycythemia and improve the symptoms I listed, even though the apnea is only mild? I was given the prescription for 11cm cpap. Thanks.
1213687 tn?1266286464 Is there a cure for sleep apnea? Surgery.....
Avatar m tn So, you could have obstructive sleep apnea and this is diagnosed with a sleep study. As you wait for your evaluation, you could avoid taking alcohol and quit smoking and try to sleep on your side as this keeps the airways patent. If any nasal blocks try to keep them patent with OTC nasal decongestants. And aim for optimum weight with exercises or long walks. Good Luck. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn t know if removing your thyroid would help sleep apnea, and I doubt any MD would remove your thyroid to cure sleep apnea because there are OTHER conditions that can cause it. Getting my TSH in the normal range definitely helped my case. Do you have thyroid condition?
Avatar m tn t have to be overweight or be male to have significant sleep apnea. Young, thin women can have severe sleep apnea. Ultimately, it's an anatomic issue, and weight gain comes in much later. She should undergo a sleep study.
Avatar n tn That depends. Do you have a copy of your sleep study results? If you have mild sleep apnea, there is a possibility a dental device could help, but those are expensive too. Some are helped with surgery, but many find after surgery they still need cpap. Hardly anyone gets used to wearing a mask to breathe in a night or two. Some take weeks and have to try several masks to get one that's right for them. But the benefits from toughing it out till adjusted make it worth the effort...
Avatar m tn What did your sleep study show? Has sleep apnea been ruled out?
Avatar f tn Additionally, opening up your nose will help, but don't count on it helping to cure your sleep-breathing condition. (It's been shown to cure sleep apnea in about only 10% of the time.) The benefit to a septoplasty (and turbinoplasty) is that you'll breathe better through your nose in general, and it'll allow you to use treatment options (CPAP or dental devices) much more effectively. Lasers are a very old technology and is rarely used anymore with this type of procedure.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Your attribution of exhaustion and “cognitive fog” to severe, sub-optimally treated sleep apnea is probably correct. Characterization of your apnea as obstructive and/or central and optimum therapy of it must be the first order of business. The second must be a specific diagnosis of your hemolytic anemia, as it may be associated with a diminished oxygen carrying capacity that would be potentiated by apnea of any sort.
Avatar f tn Does sleep apnea affect other sleep disorders such as night terrors, sleep eating, sleep walking, etc.? The physician who ordered by bi-pap machine wouldn't even discuss the other sleep disorders I have. He seemed uninterested. I'm so exhausted I'm starting to think there's no point anymore of trying. I feel like I'm floating through and useless to everyone around me. I live in a very small community and there is no one else in my insurance coverage group to go to.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Obstructive sleep apnea will not affect pregnancy, however it would help to have a sleep study done for a reassessment. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
1580703 tn?1651904887 ve said I thrashed around all night long with arms and legs, looking like I was seizing, and I did have central sleep apnea. But three different sleep studies (also showing oxygen dropping below 80% at night), none of these places or doctors have actually tried to treat any of it. I did spend a night where I was supposed to be able to try different kinds of masks for the breathing apparatus.
Avatar f tn OFF ALL THE RESEARCH THEY WENT TO THE MOON BUT CANNOT FIND A SIMPLE CURE FOR THE SLEEP APNEA PEOPLE WHO ARE SUFFERING BECAUSE SOMEBODY WHO DOES NOT HAVE SLEEP APNEA DOES NOT NOW HOW IT FEELS NOT TO BE ABLE TO SLEEP NORMALLY.ITS HELL AND OFCORSE WHAT DOCTORS DOT SAY TO THE PATIENTS THAT THEY HAVE A SHORT TIME TO LIVE BECAUSE OF A STROKE HEART ATTACK ,AND SUDDEN DEATH.

Avatar f tn I have NAFLD after drinking 2 beers once or week or less and sleep apnea. it's a serious disease? I had liver damage 80/260 after tracheotomy with anesthesia and still feel nauseous when I drink one beer. I guess it's best to not drink at all?
Avatar f tn Like twistednurse, treating my sleep apnea has made a big difference in my quality of life. Please consider that many of your other issues could stem from the sleep apnea. Lack of oxygen to the brain during apnea has to do strange things to the brain. I had nightmares all the time before treating my apnea, now I rarely ever have a bad dream. Waking up a lot - common with sleep apnea. Weight gain - common with the sleep deprived.
Avatar m tn central sleep apnea, unfortunately no cure and symptom control not pleasant (and expensive)
Avatar f tn If this always happens as you are going to sleep and/or wakes you up from sleep, my first thought would be sleep apnea. Before I was diagnosed and began using a CPAP, I had become very afraid to sleep, and avoided it till I collapsed in exhaustion. Much of what you describe is what I experienced. Since I got my CPAP working well for me I have not had one episode of the sense of choking or difficulty breathing.
Avatar f tn Snoring does often accompany sleep apnea, but just because you snore does not mean you have sleep apnea and vice versa. Minor sleep apnea is responsive to self-help remedies such as losing weight, eliminating the use of alcohol, tobacco, and sedatives; sleeping on your side, and regularizing your sleep hours. It would be best to see a sleep specialist for proper management and to ease your worries. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar m tn I have seen many specialists in regards to my snoring and sleep apnea (mild - did a sleep study 4 years ago, I am sure that my sleep apnea has worsen a bit). Some of the different specialists that I have seen are: ENT docs, Otolaryngologists, Internal Medicine/Respirologist, Dentist, and Sleep Disorder doctor. I have tried the CPAP for 2 years (hate it) and I am currently using the mouth-guard (where my jaw is moved forward).
Avatar n tn ve never heard of those things causing Central Sleep apnea, however, for the record, my thyroid tests are normal, as is my ejection fraction, pacer working fine, have been a vegetarian for years and lost 30 lbs. 3 years ago-enough to cure my pre-diabetic state. I do have persistent "jerking"=RLS and PLMD at night. Medication has been of little benefit.
Avatar n tn I'm not sure about the seeing things, but your heart rate being up could be linked to why you feel scared. And it could possibly be sleep apnea. Waking up frequently may also be a sign of sleep apnea, though one does not have to do this in order to have it. A reason you may be waking up could be because your brain is realizing that you are not getting enough oxygen, and this causes you to wake up. Your heart rate being up could also be due to lack of oxygen.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I am not sure from your description whether you have central sleep apnea (CSA) or obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) or perhaps both. UPPP surgery is generally useful for OSA. CPAP is useful for both OSA and CSA. For CSA it is hypothesized that if sleep continuity can be preserved, sleep disordered breathing could be improved. There is some evidence that clonazepam helps when there is CSA present along with periodic leg movements (which you have described).
Avatar m tn I already was struggling with poor sleep due to sleep apnea that was undiagnosed at the time. At work my responsibilities increased and I was constantly rehashing in my mind the various decisions I had to make in selecting and writing specs for a data management software conversion. Then an extended family member was killed in the military and I had to plan the local service while the parents were out of state at the memorials on the base.
Avatar m tn Does any body know for latest and advanced available therapies for severe obs ,sleep apnea, where CPAP is non compliance. Having thyroidhypo, growth hormones at critical low level, age 55 male, diabetic.
