We have three chow mix dogs who all have a terrible rash. It started on one and spread to the other two. The dog who first contracted the rash has a terrible odor that comes right back after being washed. Our vet took a skin scraping and says he's not sure what it could be. He prescribed antibiotics but they didn't work. We have tried all kinds of over the counter medications that also didn't work.

A couple of weeks ago, she broke out into angry red rashes on her abdomen and the inside of her legs. Now she is also biting her paws. We suspect a yeast infection and have sent samples for a culture. Her platelet count is also low. She is also scratching her ears. Her appetite is unimpaired though. Any ideas?

hey he is a labrador, 7 years of age, and yes he has some kind of red rashes on his body. he bathes after every 7 days. he eats pedigree. and he has thyroid too.

The last visit a couple of months ago vet said we can start with otc cortisone if rashes return and see if it helps, but if more frequent episodes then consider going back for prescription strength meds.

My dog has a couple of rashes on his belly only that get scaly. The veternarian diagnosed it as canine acne and prescribed an antibiotic. The rash resolved but then came back. When it returned, I tried using neosporin on it and it went away. Now his skin between his toe pads is dark red and looks raw. We took him back to the vet and he said it was an allergy and prescribed a steroid. Once the steroid is finished, we could try to treat with benadryl. I hate to give my dog a steroid.

I recommend starting by taking your dog to your veterinarian for assessment of the itch and medication recommendations. The most common reasons for itchy skin in dogs include skin infections, microscopic skin parasites such as scabies or demodex mites, food allergy, or pollen/dust allergies. The red spots and hairloss/swelling of the foot the you describe are suspicous for a bacterial skin infection.

Since dogs don't get rashes, it sounds like a bacterial infection of some kind. I would see a vet asap and get him on some antibiotics because waiting will only make it harder to clear and cost more in meds for you. I would make sure they culture it too. Could be allergy related but hard to tell if you don't get a skin scrape, cytology and culture done but most important is to get the poor thing some relief with maybe a short course of steroids and a longer round of antibiotics.

hi I have these red super itchy spot on my hands the skin not raised and there on the same spot on each hand I also got itchy skin rashes all over my body that I don't know from what I used to be a dog bather for petsmart I thought I change to casher and it stop but it hasent stop I tried clean and clear deturgents and oatmeal skin creams and anti itch creams and they still not go away

Fish Oil supplements thrown in with food can work wonders in helping skin and coat- I give my dogs 3-5 capsules a day, (get the cheapest kind at Costco - just as good/better as high dollar "pet" brands). My vet told me 90% (or more) of allergic-type symptoms come from diet. Read the labels on your dog food- corn, wheat, rice, (grains) can cause problems. A "limited ingredient" dog food, especially one that is grain-free would probably make a big difference.

I have all kind of rashes on my face! I have always had flawless skin and I have developed all kinds of sores and things on my face!!! I am VERY self conscious about it!!!!

hi..... I have odd type skin rashes or swelling..... I live in cold county(canada). I get rashes only in the hands(from fingers to wrist only) that too only if go out only. Inside the house,I'm pretty normal. but once I go out(where the temperature will be in minus) I get rashes only in hands which is not covered, rest of my body will be covered with jackets and winter shoes. so which made me to think. whether this rash is because of the climatic change (this sounds really weird).
