These headaches are terrible and very frustrating. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn I am not sure if a food allergy has been triggering this non-stop headache. I have began keeping a headache journal documenting exactly what time I wake and go to sleep, what I eat and when, and also what type of physical activity I do. I plan on seeing a different specialist in my home state at the end of this month. Does anyone have any answers for me? Or know of anything that I should bring up to my doctor? I am desperate.
Avatar f tn There are other primary headache disorders that can cause unilateral pain other than migraine. One is a primary stabbing headache. This headache often occurs in people with migraine. The pain itself generally lasts a fraction of a second but can last for up to one minute in some people. Another type of stabbing headache is called paroxysmal hemicrania. This is marked by episodes of stabbing or sharp pains that occur on one side of the head and may be associated with eye tearing or runny nose.
Avatar n tn Started to have a headache in April after I had a injection in my hip. Thought it might be from the shot, but was told it wasn't. Was advised to go to ER if it continued, which it did. Went to Emergent Care where they gave me a shot of Tramadol which did nothing. So then I had a CT of Brain, which was normal. Told to follow up with neurologist, which I did.He advised it was tension headache. He tried muscle relaxants which did not work.

Avatar f tn Hi! I am sorry to hear about your medical problems. Yes, the symptoms can be due to tension headaches, migraines or due to spinal nerve compression in the neck or upper back region. So, yes, a cervical and head MRI may help diagnose the cause. Meanwhile do deep breathing exercises, slow neck rotation exercises, apply local pain reliever gel and ask someone to lightly massage you back and neck. Take care!
Avatar f tn hi, is that real? the hypothyroid will cause the tension headache? I did a blood count, thyroxin was really low.
Avatar m tn since all your investigations are coming postive and no obvious etiology is detected, it is easier to understand that, the symptoms are showing are due to migraine headaches. Other causes could be stress headache, cluster headaches and a tension headache. Consult your neurologist for the needful. Take care.

Avatar f tn Hi, in tension headache pain can radiate from the neck, back and eyes. Tension-type headaches account for nearly 90% of all headaches. Epidemological data suggests incidence of 3% for chronic-tension type headache. "Pain is often described as a constant pressure, as if the head were being squeezed in a vise. The pain is frequently bilateral which means it is present on both sides of the head at once. Tension-type headache pain is typically mild to moderate".
Avatar f tn I am so relieved to read the above...I thought I was going crazy. I have had a headache for 2 1/2 weeks now and it started as a tension headache with a lot of neck pain and now I am having eye pain, blurred vision, flashy vision, one small gray spot in my vision, pain in temple, dizziness. The only thing that is constant is the blurred vision. I kept looking up symptoms of tension headache and it said noting about the vision stuff which had me freaked out.
Avatar m tn A neurologist. A few of them specialize in headache. See your GP first, and he/she can't help you, ask for a referral to a headache-specialist neurologist. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I'm just past 13 weeks and just had my 3rd headache, all of them lasted several days and came on weekends. And made me nauseous enough to throw up, when I haven't had any other nausea or vomiting. This last one started last Friday on a quick flight for a wedding weekend and it lasted almost til the Saturday evening wedding! It was awful and Tylenol does nothing for me. The only thing I can do is take Benedryl to try and sleep it off.
Avatar m tn I am prescribed Celebrex and skelaxin. I have a question about the skelaxin. Well my job is physically demanding I work in a hospital I do patient care I "boost" patients, transport patients, help very unsteady patients get out of bed and walk. So quite often I need to take my skelaxin. My lower back tightens up and I just need some relief. I have been taking it a bit more often than I did say 6 months ago.

Avatar n tn A "stiff band tied tight around [your] head" sounds like a tension headache to me. And... even though you don't have any muscle pain anywhere else in your body... the pain in your head... well, those are probably head muscles that are hurting if it feels like a stiff band tied tight around your head. A bear attack and having to use bear spray or having a friend have to use bear spray is a pretty traumatic sort of event and could have totally stressed you out!!
Avatar n tn The most common places to have tension are the forehead and the back of the neck. Tension headaches can be psychogenic (occurring with a mental disease). Whether it is or not, anti-depressants are used when NSAID's provide no relief. I'd imagine that your headaches aren't due to inflammatory issues if they're chronic. Elavil has shown the most effectiveness of all the anti-depressants for tension headaches, although it's very likely that the others are just as effective.
Avatar f tn Your symptoms could indeed be due to tension headache which is often associated with stress. Visual fatigue is often associated with symptoms such as blurred vision, eyestrain, eyes that sting or burn and the headaches are usually felt at the end of the day. Rest, ice pack, pain medications and avoidance of triggers or stress may help provide relief. If these do not work, have this checked by your doctor for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.
