Skelaxin compared to flexeril

Common Questions and Answers about Skelaxin compared to flexeril

skelaxin

Avatar m tn ve been on several different muscle relaxers including Skelaxin and Flexeril. Skelaxin did not help me at all but Flexeril did. The Flexeril worked great for many years until it stopped and I had to switch to a new med and that's when my Dr put me on the Soma. The Soma does work great but I struggle to keep it under control.
Avatar m tn My doc just gave me Skelaxin for my back pain and said it might help. I have been trying to cut back taking hydro and I don't want to take anything that is going to make me woosey. I started into therapy last week and it is really making my back hurt. The nurosurgeon I saw said I have from L-1 to S-1 messed up and he does not think surgery would help any. So he just said take the hydro because your not taking that many (only 3 a day 7.
402205 tn?1230481005 I used to take flexeril but it stopped working for me and I was always able to stop c/t without any problems. I currently take 800mg 3xday of Skelaxin and there are no dependence issues at all, so I think you would be fairly safe not relapsing. I have read posts on here regarding soma which is a muscle relaxer and apparently it is addicting. You can also take upto 800mgs of IBprofen 3xday which really helps with muscle and joint pain.
Avatar f tn Skelaxin helps me out with that. Compared to the opiates I just got off of, I get absolutely no buzz from Skelaxin. It just makes me a bit tired. Not my idea of a recreational drug at all. ...now Flexiril, that's another story. I tried that out, taking a 10mg. Next thing I knew, it was the next day! I slept probably 10 hours, and had a druggy hangover for another half-day.
Avatar m tn patients, transport patients, help very unsteady patients get out of bed and walk. So quite often I need to take my skelaxin. My lower back tightens up and I just need some relief. I have been taking it a bit more often than I did say 6 months ago. I tKe it as prescribed I have never gone over the maximum dose, I am just concerned about possible withdrawal or anything like that from skelaxin.
Avatar m tn My pain clinic is no longer writing for soma. I have had flexeril, robaxin, skelaxin before and they aren't as effective. What can I try?
Avatar n tn I also developed somehow a muscle spams around my neck aparently due to excesive coughing. The pain became the worst ever to the point of tears. The doctor prescribed skelaxin 800mg, it didn't help, then I added 400mg Advil.. The pain somehow got better, but still there. So Went for Motrin 800mg with Skelaxin, didn't help. So finally she gave a prescription of Tramadol 50mg.. it doesn't work. I don't what to do, I can sleep, I can't move my head, it's hard to drive.
Avatar m tn After a brief nap, most of my pain greatly subsided. The following hours, about 10p, I did see an uptick in stiffness but nothing compared to the pain before the Flexeril. I know Flexeril has an unusually long half-life, about 18 hrs. I've been invited to a small get-together this evening and i'm wondering if Id be okay having a mix drink and/or a beer, or if I should refrain? I'm 7 hrs into the second half-life period of the Flexeril.
Avatar f tn Same thing with having a muscle relaxer to take as needed. Flexeril, Skelaxin, Robaxin, Baclofen, or Zanaflex. This is very useful for those times with bad muscle spasms... Again...an opiate does not target spasms. An opiate just makes our brain not "care" as much. And sure, it can be a small part of one's treatment...but it should never be the main part.
Avatar m tn In 1994 I had suffered a sub-arachnoid hemmorage(anueurysm) on the outer left side of my brain. I had it clipped, and the surgery involved some cutting into some muscle tissue in the jaw as well as surgical buttons to seal the bone flap they had cut open. I still have chronic pain from the surgery site(mostly the jaw and sometimes the site where it was cut open), but not like the section of the brain where it happened.
Avatar f tn Hi, I started taking ultram for multiple vehicle injuries. Ultram didn't work, they tried Tylenol3, tylenol3 didn't work they tried hydrocodone, that didn't work..so they tried percoset 5/325 6X a day. I got used to that dose now im on 7.5/325 6x a day. The more I NEED them. The more I want them. I am definitely addicted but it is not a good addiction. I get very mean, and emotionless over nothing. I go to physical therapy 3x a week. So it is all legit.
237152 tn?1206651036 Well I've never taken soma but have taken flexeril a lot, to help me sleep and to help with back spasms, I have never gotten any type of 'buzz' from it. Upon comparing the two on drugs.com under warning on soma it says not to take it if you have a history of alcohol or other substance abuse or dependence but under flexeril there is nothing of the sort. Hope that helps, Much Luv!!!
Avatar f tn This was in reply to your comment "I don't think that Flexeril can be compared to the trycylics, not even close".
Avatar f tn It seems to come and go throughout the day. It hurts to cough (if I have to cough) and also to breath in deeply. I have no fever, cough, chills or any other symptoms besides pain. I've been to several doctors, had a shoulder xray and blood tests done. All three seem to think it's muscular. Does anyone else have experience with these pains? Muscle relaxers and pain pills don't seem to help. Icyhot helps sometimes. Do you think its really muscular or should I see another doctor?
Avatar n tn Both bottles state the dosage on them that you can take. The Flexeril I believe was given to me after I had some dental work done to help loosen my jaw/neck muscles because I ended up with Trismus. And the Norflex was given to me by my old PCP awhile ago because I mentioned during a visit my neck and shoulders were chronically tight. I suppose I could call my NL and see which one she recommends.... I just Hate calling there!!
1415174 tn?1453243103 I've used Flexeril a couple of times and didn't have any side-effects from it. However, I normally don't have many side-effects from my meds. My Orthopedic Surgeon just gave me a prescription for Flexeril last week but it didn't seem to be doing much and so my WONDERFUL PM Doctor changed it to Baclofen so that it would target the muscles that were bothering me so much. I've JUST started it so I don't have much information for you one way pr the other as of yet.
232328 tn?1207090071 I used flexeril for back pain, and to be honest it did nothing...The doctor told me it was going to make me sleepy and it did not...It is a muscle relaxent... I ws on the 10mg dose.... So then he switched me to zanaflex, and i can only take it at nite because it makes me knock out....I don't take it all the time, only when my back is hurting as i think that one can be addicting i am sure others will give you their experience on it!
Avatar f tn No I didnt want to take any pain meds, try a hot water bottle, or a warm bath first if it doesnt help then speak to your doc about what is safe!
210982 tn?1280983895 I've only known two people on soma and both were really hooked onit. I don't know if it is mental or physical. I know the one gal was in detox for 8 months as they weaned her down with klonopin. She had a tough time.
733362 tn?1489794936 I have been taking 3/4 of a 10mg Flexerit once a day before bed Pain Management Dr put me on 4-1/2 yrs ago while detoxing from Valium (horrible). I'm sure God brought me here getting off Valium. People here helped me so much like Cricket, AtThebeach and many others. I couldn't have done it without them and our Heavenly Father. Was on Gabapentin (for me is a horrible drug). He offered that again, maybe won't be as bad now, not withdrawing from Valium.
