m asking please if is it possable that if i take the drug sitagliptin it would mean i could reduce the gliclazide and stop the mrtformin my Diabetes is well controlled on the whole but my nurse as requested i increase the glicazide
Of the total number of subjects [N=3884] in Phase II and III clinical studies of Sitagliptin, 725 patients were 65 years and over, while 61 patients were 75 years and older. No overall differences in safety or effectiveness were observed between subjects 65 years and over and younger subjects. While this and other clinical experience have not identified differences in responses between the elderly and younger patients, greater sensitivity of some older individuals cannot be ruled out.
I then eat 45 g of carbs and inject 3 units of insulin before the meal. Test 2 hours after starting to eat and my blood sugar is 140 (my target is < 120 after eating). This tells me that the insulin was not enough. Next time I eat 45 g of carbs I will try 4 units of insulin). I actually finally worked out that I need 1 unit of insulin for about 10 g of carbs.
It also helps to restrict carbs.
re having bad lows, then you need to further reduce your insulin dosing. Try reducing by say 10% and then if that is not enough reduce by a further 10%.
Are you using basal-bolus regime, with separate long and short acting insulin? If you are you can look up how to do basal testing. This will help you set your long acting insulin to optimal level.
An alterative approach to sliding scale is to dose fast acting insulin based on carb counting.

I didn't have bruises as I switched around the sides where insulin was injected.Also, baby movement changes all the time，not necessarily the result of insulin. For me, the weird thing for insulin was the week b4 delivery，I don't need to rely on insulin at all. I was back to normal all a sudden. The state of the art approach for all newly diagnosed type 2 people (you can look up joslin diabetes centre), is to start them on metformin to reduce the insulin resistance, and then to give them insulin. If you are early enough in the diagnosis, you will need only low doses of insulin to get excellent blood sugar. This is far safer and more effective than multi-oral therapy.
I have had 2 diabetic pregnancies and my need for insulin increased dramatically from start to delivery. Both my girls were perfectly fine (I did have excellent control). My HbA1c when I delivered my first duaghter was close to 5. She was a natural delivery at 38 weeks and weighed 7 lbs 3 oz (I think I was taking about 60 units/day at the time of delivery, having started insulin at 3 months pregnant). For my second daughter it was 5.
Yes same as diabetic meds its supposed to lower insulin levels because its said ppl with pcos have higher levels of insulin and can cause problems
I'm 32 wks and was diagnosed with gd 3 weeks ago. First week they tried just diet/exercise, 2nd week gave me pills, 3rd week upped the dosage, now they are saying up dosage again and start insulin. My numbers haven't changed, they are 85-95 fasting, under 120 for lunch and all over the place for dinner but no higher than 150. The results have been the same no matter the dose so far. This is my fifth pregnancy and I had gd with my third too, completely controlled with diet/exercise.
I am 53 year old and type 2 diabetic, I take Insulin twice daily. Other medications are metformin 500mg twice daily, Lisinopril 40mg(morning), Trazodone 50. Recently I take tadalafil 10mg and my blood sugar goes very low. I also tried 2.5mg daily at night, again my blood sugar goes very low. I wear a freestyle libre patch. What medications are interacts with tadalafil? Is Viagra will be safe for me?
Hello so I'm 23 weeks and the docs have told me I need to be on insulin 4 times daily :(.. So my question is has anyone who is or had insulin have had mood swings with double the crying and emotional mood swings, I'm on my 7th baby and I've just started the insulin and I feel so horrible.
Yeah, I had last year with my son, along with insulin, and I kept taking it after I gave birth, and now I'm pregnant again, and I'm gonna use it, for me, it worked, and is safe for pregnant women, I don't think they would prescribe it if it wasn't

I'm not a medical professional but a volunteer on this forum with a similar story to yours. I was diagnosed with Type I diabetes at the age of 18 (that was over 11 years ago). I too struggled at first with insulin doses (which I also tried to adjust myself), trying to understand carb counting, etc. And I too gained wight steadily for years. I know how frustrating it all can be but trust me, what you're experiencing is very common, yet it doesn't have to be this way.
