Common Questions and Answers about Singulair vs pulmicort

singulair

Avatar f tn My 2 year old son acquired severe RSV at 6 weeks old. Ever since then he now has virally induced asthma. So he's been hospitalized a few times with bronchiolitis when he was 1 years old. The typical treatment has been 2ce a day pulmicort and 3xs a day to every 4 hours of albuterol. If that didn't work they would add predisone and sometimes zithromax. And those combos knocked it out. Well he now has 3 weeks of a rattling cough that just doesn't go away.
Avatar n tn Also i am using Pulmicort and Singulair regularly. I am from India.I may be travelling to US shortly. I am worried about the availability of Ventolin inhalers. Some months i may need to use more than one Ventolin inhalers based on my asthma triggers. Will it be a problem to get 2 ventolin inhaler prescription per month in US.
Avatar m tn My doctor prescribed Pulmicort Respules and gave me a Neilmed irrigator to apply the dose. Do I fill the Neilmed with water and pour the respule in the water and mix, and then apply? Or do I just put one respule in the irrigator and irrigate without diluting? There are no directions...I'm guessing that I dilute the solution but does that impact efficacy?
Avatar n tn Since we discovered the loss - and got the aid - just over a year ago, his behavior and speech have improved. He also has allergy induced asthma. He takes Singulair daily and takes Pulmicort and Xopenex as needed via nebulizer when he starts to show signs of coughing. My husband and I went to his parent-teacher conference yesterday - for pre-school - and we were advised by his team (speech therapist, psychologist, etc.) that we should discuss his behavior with our pediatrician.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone! I'm in a bit of a bind right now. My preventive asthma medication seems to cause nausea and general cloudiness when I take them. When I stop taking them, the dizziness stops so I know that it's the cause. I've tried a handful of different medicines like Flovent, Dulera, Qvar, Advair, Pulmicort and even Singulair and they all cause this nauseating effect. I'm wondering if any of you know what this might be and any way to stop it.
Avatar n tn no emergencies, thank goodness). He takes Singulair every night, Albuterol as needed and Benadryl as needed (all as suggested by his doctor). He recently had a cold and his asthma flared up. We gave him albuterol via his nebulizer 3 times daily for around 6 days (his ped said 4-7 days).
Avatar m tn Singulair is a must and is taken in the evening,it helps me.Also,Advair taken in the morning and evening depending on dosage, its an inhaled type of steroid.Like prednisone, without all the yucky side affects.Licorice root found at health food stores also helps,it also comes in syrup form.Black coffee also can stop an asthma attack if caught early enough.Be careful with the licorice root,as it can cause high blood pressure if taken to much.

Avatar m tn My son was diagnosed with asthma when he was 3. He takes singulair, flonaise, zyrtec, and pulmicort through a nebulizer twice a day on a daily basis. He has been through so much in his last year and a half. I just put him in play school and on his first day I can tell that the air conditioner is triggering his asthma. He began wheezing that night. And now two days later he has a full blown cold and I am doing albuterol around the clock.
212161 tn?1599427282 I have had asthma for nine years. For seven years I was on Pulmicort 200 twice a day until the company changed their product to flexhailer. The flexhailer just didnt work like the turbuhalor. Then thats when I switched over to asmanex 220 and then when the heart palpatatioins happend i ended up stopping it and goign to flovent diskus 250 twice a day. That helped but wasnt like the asmanex.
Avatar f tn My son's teacher just informed me that my son is having trouble completing his work. Not that he can't do it, but he is either talking or daydreaming. He is often easily distracted. She said this has been going on for about a month. Some days are better than others. He is at a new school, but has similar problems at his old school. They give him time do his work and he will either talk to other or just sit there. He does exhibit this behavior at home sometime while doing homework.
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed two types of inhalers for me. One of the medications is called Pulmicort. This medication I use once is the morning and once at night. The other medication is called Bricanyl Turburhaler. Some people also call it a " puffer" or an " inhaler". The Bricanyl I am instructed to use as needed, not every day. I can understand why you are hesitant or scared to take prednisone. " Low doses taken short term ( by mouth) rarely cause serious side effects.
Avatar f tn Last month I noticed my son appeared to be really red in the face and looked flush. I took his pulse using a pulse oximeter and noticed it said 164 at rest. My son takes pulmicort .5 nebulizer twice a day, and singulair 5mg once a day. His pediatrician sent him to a pediatric cardiologist who placed him on an event monitor for 24 hours. He said the results were normal with an average rate of 104 and the highest being 157. He has since had 3 normal ekgs and currently has an event monitor on.
Avatar n tn Anyway, her asthma is not related to her allergies - good and bad. She started singulair before bedtime, pulmicort (1mg) per day, and xeopenex when needed for wheezing. She is MUCH better! And, she does have asthma problems with drainage or any sinus issues she starts wheezing every time, so they could be the same... I have never heard of Qvar, but my daughter's symptoms have improved drastically so I would definitely get a 2nd opinion.
Avatar f tn He said that he must have gotten some sort of virus and it triggered his asthma. He told me to continue his Singulair, Pulmicort Respules one time a day, Xopenex in the nebulizer every four hours, and he prescribed Prednisone two times per day (dr. said to start the steroid only if the cough does not slow down). So on Wednesday morning, my son woke up at 6:30am coughing non-stop....coughing so much that he vomited!
Avatar f tn We have her on qvar, Singulair, and now The Vest twice a day. We did 10 days of antibiotics following the bronch culture results (streptococcus viridians ). My question is....at what point do we consider surgery on her right middle lobe? Do we give this management plan a good try, like a year? Should we wait until she is older, like 6 or 7? Her pulmonologist said surgery is an absolute last resort, but most of the studies I've read suggest middle lobe resection as the best treatment.
205269 tn?1395534274 The dr. has tried just about every allergy medication possible like nasonex, patanase, singulair, xopenex, pulmicort, and albuterol. All of these had very little effect on him. A few days ago he had a serial dilution titration test and it showed to be positive for a number of things like: alternaria, aspergillus, cephalosporium, helminthosporum, cockroach, mite DF, mite DP, and the one thing that stuck out to me because, I don't really know what it is is candida.
Avatar f tn The second attack caused him to be hospitalized during treatment because he was not responding well to 3 doses of albuterol via nebulizer and had low oxygen sat. (88%). Both of the epsiodes occured during a cold/virus. My Dr. is reccomending a once daily pulmicort treatment for prevention purposes. I am a little hesitant to be giving him this at such a young age and only a short time of displaying these symtoms.
Avatar f tn 5 hours, 50% of the amount of Singulair in your body will be eliminated. If you took a 5mg dose of Singulair, within the time frames they gave, you will only have 2.5mg left in your body. 2.7-5.5 hours later, you will have 50% of THAT amount left in your body. This 50% reduction will continue until all of the medication is out of your system. I totally suck at math but maybe YOU'RE an Einstein and can figure out, from this equation, exactly when the last of the Singulair will leave your body.
Avatar f tn anyone else experiencing HORRIBLE allergies this year? I'm on Zyrtec, Singulair, Benadryl, Advair, Flonase, Astelin, Mucinex and STILL have drainage and chest/nasal congestion. Feeling rundown and tired and want to get over this. This is the second time I've been through somethine like this in 2011. Any advice would be appreciated.
640719 tn?1277140030 Can anyone tell me if Singulair is better at holding asthma down vs hayfever. My doctor put me on it for preventive seasonal treatment and my hayfever is really kicking up? This is a first time trying to use a preventive measure and I'm getting worried because I'm just now feeling recovered from my last hospitalization in May. I added a steroid nasal spray yesterday.
Avatar f tn in addtion to his albuterol, (prednison and pulmicort ) a chest x ray showed no infection but inflamed blood vessels. in addition to the asthma cough, he is fatigued, has had loss of appetite, a lump on the bottom of his right foot blueish fleshy about 2 cm by 2.5 cm- his skin is mottled and he complains of a belly ache each time he does eat. he also had a rash (the dr.
Avatar n tn t sleep at night for fear of an attack. He is on pulmicort nebs twice a day, Intal forte, nasonex and maybe singulair if decided by drs this week. Any advice would be so welcomed.
Avatar f tn i am already on several medications for my asthma ( symbicort 160, singulair, duoneb 2x daily as a maintanance ,and still need my maxair daily. i have been on 6 prednisone tapers so far this year and have been doing allergy shot for 1.5 yrs with next to no improvement in my asthma. my question is, i know all the good , bad and ugly about prednisone but i HAVE TO be able to live my life!!! does anyone know of any alternatives that i might discuss with my doctor.
Avatar f tn I went to see a pulmonogist and he diagnosed me with asthma and put me on pulmicort and singulair (my preventatives do nothing to prevent). I also went to see an allergist and found out I am allergic to everything and I mean everything. I started immunotherapy (allergy shots) two weeks ago. Here is the deal...I am always always feeling like I can't breath and sometimes it is accompanied with chest pain. I am confused sometimes because I do not know if it is my anxiety or my mild asthma.
Avatar f tn I have recently changed my preventor from flixotide to pulmicort as when I was on flixotide I was finding that I felt like I had to take deep breaths all the time. Once I swapped preventors it improved and has now been approximately 4 months and has come back. I feel like I have to yawn all the time to get a deep breath in. I have also had a croaky voice for nearly 2 months and can't figure out why. I work in child care and have not had any cold or flu symptoms.
Avatar m tn Your doctor should be able to clarify that and answer the question of safety vs. avoidance. In addition, only one type of inhaler called a beta agonist, which comes in a short-acting and a long-acting form, can lead to tachycardia or other abnormal heart rhythms. If what you have experienced is simply a rhythm called sinus tachycardia with a rate not much over 100 beats per minute, there would be little or no danger, especially if you have no underlying heart disease.
