Singulair vs flovent

Common Questions and Answers about Singulair vs flovent

singulair

Avatar f tn The past few months of sicknesses has been the worst. He was on prednisone 3 more times and still while on Singulair. Now he is on Flovent and Singulair hoping to keep his wheezing under control. But he remains with this wet cough. It's from the asthma. Has your son ever had wheezing? The Singulair is pretty safe although it can have sleeping side effects. We have to give to him at night right b-4 bed or it keeps him up. It has helped, but just not enough.
Avatar m tn It causes asthma (Arizona Cypress, Mesquite and Palo Verde are the culprits.) Singulair has helped me very successfully in the past. However, I also take a very low dose blood pressure medication (Lisinopril 20mg). I do not have health insurance and have an alternative source for medications. Would it be advisable for me to purchase Singulair for 3 months to get me through those three months next year. This year was a bit difficult without it.
312330 tn?1245176752 I was on it for over a year and then they switched my meds around to what they are currently because I was still having alot of problems with my symptoms...Flovent, serevent (essentially advair), singulair, zithromax and xopenex ( I am on several others but these are specifically for my asthmatic problems). Some people do very well on Theo...I hope that it works out for you.
1491064 tn?1288394052 my son is five years old and he has asthma, he is on Flovent and Prednisolone for his lungs,(his doctor just took him off singulair) but last year he got pretty sick and his doctor had him on Azithromycin, nasonex,Allegra,Albuterol sulfate,Singulair,Flovent, and Prednisolone. three days into taking all the medications and he started to studder and really bad. i mentioned it to his doctor and she said that studdering is common for boys his age, and to this day he is studdering and very badly.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone! I'm in a bit of a bind right now. My preventive asthma medication seems to cause nausea and general cloudiness when I take them. When I stop taking them, the dizziness stops so I know that it's the cause. I've tried a handful of different medicines like Flovent, Dulera, Qvar, Advair, Pulmicort and even Singulair and they all cause this nauseating effect. I'm wondering if any of you know what this might be and any way to stop it.
1315759 tn?1274044788 I have the albuterol for both, flovent,& advair. I take the albuterol & flovent inhalers 4 times a day plus the machine.Advair twice. But I still have flair ups & when I do the best thing I have fond for me & my grandson is taking a very hot pot of water of the stove putting it on the floor under us. Then take a towel or blanket cover our head so we can get the stem from the water. I know that's an old thing but it works so well to brake up stuff in between meds.
Avatar n tn My mom who is 86 was diagnosed with COPD years and years ago. She took singulair and flovent inhaler and walked 3 miles a day. Two years ago she needed to use Duoneb via nebulizer. She was not short of breath at any time but had a few bouts with chronic bronchitis. Since moving to Florida a year ago, her husband died in Dec of 2007 and she is now short of breath. Her pulmonologist in FL took her off all of lung medications and within 3 days she was wheezing like a maniac.
Avatar f tn Switched up steriod to inhaled Flovent 44 instead of nebulizer and albuterol qid. No results. Chest x-ray and blood allergy (why not at this point) ordered and clear. Follow up with Pulm realized no coughing at night and diagnosed with Protracted Bronchitis. Treated 3 weeks of Augmentin 500mg BID x three weeks. Nasal and throat cultures test negative except for rhinovirus.
Avatar n tn My 13 year old daughter has been recently diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis. The treatments of which has been the use of Flovent and an elemental diet (Elecare) have not been working. Her symptoms are immediate regurgetation or vomiting of EVERYTHING SHE EATS OR DRINKS. Water, vitamins, anything that goes in comes right back out. She has lost amlost 30 lbs but is somehow remaining steady for about a month now, thank God.
Avatar f tn PLEASE HELP Let me add that she is NOT in tears because the Singulair has made her depressed, we heard all about that in the news. She is in tears because of the agony she's in because of how BAD her arms and legs feel all the time!!!!!!!!!!!! My daughter is on Singulair and just finished a short course of Prednisone. On her 4th day [last day] of Prednisone, her legs and arms started to feel very weak and heavy and numb[she said they felt "thick"].
Avatar f tn My daughter was micro-aspirating at night (reflux aspiration) and once it got under control so did the asthma and that was yrs of Flovent, Singulair, inhalers, Prednisone! Her trigger was cat ...... once the cat passed away (20yrs old) so did her asthma improve ten-fold and so did her reflux .. Prilosec worked for her. Have you considered a total food elimination diet ? That would be total and add in one more thing ev. 3 days .... not just making changes here or there ?
212161 tn?1599427282 Then thats when I switched over to asmanex 220 and then when the heart palpatatioins happend i ended up stopping it and goign to flovent diskus 250 twice a day. That helped but wasnt like the asmanex. So, now im going back to asmanex and im on day 3 without any steroids and my asthma is starting to get annoying. I am also on singulair 10mg.
Avatar f tn Two that would not affect your heart rate would be an inhaled steroid, such as Flovent® HFA Inhalation Aerosol (fluticasone propionate) or another medicine taken by mouth Singulair® (montelukast sodium). You should ask your doctor about these. Good luck.
Avatar m tn It also seems to be aggravated by fresh cut grass. I am taking prednisone 10 mg and soon to be taking Flovent and singulair to see if this has any effect on my symptoms. It is very strange though because I done very well on all of my Asthma tests that I had over the summer, I wonder if it is some sort of allergic reaction that is triggering this, or if this is asthma?
959034 tn?1253671476 My doctor is letting me choose between flovent and qvar to take with my Symbicort. Which works better? I'm still trying to get off prednisone.
Avatar m tn I dont recall her having rapid heart rate with this symbicort, but she has had good luck with Flovent for several years.. but it just wasnt cutting it the past year for her, and needed to advance to something else, but for many years it worked pretty good. She initally experience the rapidness but it subsided. Now she is on the symbicort and hates that it is a powdery- like substance, and is still experiencing wheezing.
Avatar f tn He has been taking zyrtec(for allergies) and zantac (for reflux) all his life every day, abutorol breathing treatment ( I think is how it is spelled) but not everyday just when he has breathing problems, and has been on and off steroids several times. Right now he is taking.... ventolin inhalation-every 4 hrs for 5 -7 days,Flovent inhalation-twice a day for months or years,Singular-I guess forever,Orapred-steriod 3 days twice a day,and Cefdinir or Omnicef antibiotics for 7 days.
Avatar f tn Should I use my flovent with a new 5 day rx of pred for asthma? Flare up a result of the flu so dr orderedpred 20mg twice a day for 5 days.
Avatar m tn Meds I take are cefadroxil (for acne), 20mg prozac (for GAD), singulair (asthma/allergies), 110 flovent inhaler, and proair as needed. Also, I am allergic to penicillin.
Avatar f tn Theophylline is another option either instead of, or in addition to one of the non-steroid preventatives. Accolate, Singulair, or Zyflo may help if there is an allergic component to your asthma. Atrovent is another option, but would probably need to be taken four times each day to work as a preventative. I will let you know if I think of anything else. Good luck working out some kind of treatment with your Pulmonary Specialist. I hope you find something that works for you!
Avatar n tn and another thing i forgot to ask. ive just been doing some research on singulair also and it seems like people are having alot of serious side effects including suicide. are there any drugs to help asthma that dont have these crazy side effects. i mean other than albuteral. it seems like advair is making alot of peoples asthma worse and singulair has a whole list of crazy side effects like people acting aggresive, suicide, cant sleep, nightmares, depression.
Avatar f tn Otherwise, I take Singulair year round. This year the humidity is especially high. I have had trouble breathing for over a month now. I am a REALTOR® and am outside alot, and have been showing a lot of vacant bank repos with no air, and lots of mold and moisture problems. My inhaler ran out about a month ago (and was expired anyway). I ran out of my Singulair and was too busy to refill my prescription for a couple of weeks.
Avatar f tn 5 hours, 50% of the amount of Singulair in your body will be eliminated. If you took a 5mg dose of Singulair, within the time frames they gave, you will only have 2.5mg left in your body. 2.7-5.5 hours later, you will have 50% of THAT amount left in your body. This 50% reduction will continue until all of the medication is out of your system. I totally suck at math but maybe YOU'RE an Einstein and can figure out, from this equation, exactly when the last of the Singulair will leave your body.
Avatar f tn They said start with Xopenex (4-6x a day) and give him Flovent once in the morning and once at night. Do this for about 1-2 days. But doesn't it take weeks for Flovent to kick in? Why would they have me do it like this. How could it help him for only 1-2 days?
