Singulair side effects on children

Common Questions and Answers about Singulair side effects on children

singulair

Avatar m tn he suffered from undetected side effects for 3 years. the side effects were sneaky and subtle and i did not pick up on the cause. at the age of 7, his physician increased his dosage to 5mg due to his age. after that increase, his side effects became loud and clear. in general he suffered from nightmares, leg pain, irritability, fear, out-of-nowhere vomiting, sadness, anxiety, self-doubt, impulsiveness, dificulty focusing / concentrating and restlessness.
Avatar f tn I even called the company that makes Singulair and they played dumb. When I mentioned that these side effects were listed on their web site they said the were just reporting side effects that people called in with. I thought that was really irresponsible!!! Her pulmonologist took her off Singulair (said she didn't need it! Go figure!) Her strange numbness and pins and needles in her arms and legs lasted for a few weeks and then just went away. Thank God!
Avatar f tn He had told me the SIngulair will not make me feel funny, cause anxiety or heart palps etc...yet I see there are a lot of negative side effects. Does anyone have any experience on this medicine or just how safe it is?
Avatar f tn I have alot to say about Singulair but none of it is good, unfortunately. My son was on Singulair for 3 yrs. I finally recognized the side effects he was having and discontinued. He suffered from leg pain, stomach pain, irritability, anxiety, quick to tears, easily frustrated and excessively fearful. At the age of 7, his dosage was increased to 5mg. At that point, it became very clear he was suffering side effects. All of the side effects I mentioned above were multipled x 10.
Avatar n tn She takes these types of medication regularly. Would this medication not be appropriate for her. What about all the side effects...lowered blood rate, difficulty breathing? She has difficulty breathing as it is. Please advise.
Avatar n tn Possibly I have had the groin issue. Have looked up the side effects of singular on web md or someplace like that?
Avatar f tn I was having the same side effects, switched to dulera and have very few side effects, only stomach acid which is treatable. Glad you're feeling better.
Avatar m tn So sorry to hear that. Is he being seen by a pulmonary specialist? Is he taking any sort of preventative medications apart from ventoIin? He obviously needs to have his asthma controlled. I do know that they don't like to over medicate children on steroid puffers. But I do believe they are allowed up to 400ug/day safely before any side effects become apparent, such as slowed growth. Does he have a lot of air born allergies?
Avatar n tn Head tremors could be also a side-effect, as it is consistent with the possible side effects presented with the use of Singulaire, however, not directly listed itself as one, but rather linked to one ( seizures, dizziness, headaches, etc). It should be reported to your prescribing Doctor immediately. Please offer more details such as reasons for taking it and other symptoms. There may be better options available. Take care.
Avatar n tn I see many folks are experiencing side effects from Singulair. So am I ... I think. I was taking Singulair for just 5 days for and upper respiratory cold and began having tingling and numbness in my extremities. I stopped immediately. My question is, after eliminating all other possible causes (through a number of tests including MRIs, blood work, metals testing) with my doctor, I still have numbness, tingling and burning taking place in my legs and arms for 3 months now.
Avatar f tn The most common side effects include: stomach pain, heartburn, stuffy nose, flu, dizziness, headache or rash. (ref:http://www.singulair.com/montelukast_sodium/singulair/consumer/allergies/for_parents/product_information/ppi/what_is_singulair.jsp) Your rash may be a side effect of the medications you are taking. Did the rash appear after being prescribed with these drugs?
Avatar f tn I understand your scared. I've had to deal with 14 day runs of prednisone for a little over 3 years now & it *****. I experience these side effects even when I'm not on it because I've had to use it for so long. I started out with flu symptoms & we just can't get rid of it; I guess I'm just unlucky. I do see that the longer I'm off the prednisone the better I get so there is hope that you will not have to deal with the side effects much longer.
Avatar f tn is there another medicine similar to singulair that doesn't have the bad side effects
Avatar f tn Also, remember any medication you take will have a list of side effects a mile long. If you search the side effects of any pill on the internet of course it will scare the you know what out of you. For example, if I looked up the potential side effects of the Motrin I took yesterday, I would probably never take it again. Of course there are risks to anything we put into our body, but your doctor compares the risks vs. benefits of the drug when prescribing it to you.
Avatar n tn Long-term use comes with serious side effects both for adults and for children, but more serious for children. If you are concerned ask your doctor for effective non-steroidal substitutes. I got off inhales steroids three years ago after suffering health problems caused by it. I now use natural anti-inflammatories plus nebulized albuterol and an anti-histamine.
Avatar m tn Depression is a side effect of singulair. Sounds like you are really suffering with it. Call your doctor ASAP to make adjustments in your treatment. I have never heard of twitching with Singulair, but it is a side effect of other asthma meds. Be sure to let your doctor know that you have stopped taking Singulair this week and watch for signs of uncontrolled asthma - increased use of inhaler, coughing, sighing... There are a lot of subtle signs that people miss.
1154802 tn?1266485720 I have been prescribed prednisone to help keep my asthma under control twice in the past three months. I've noticed there are a lot of bad side effects (as there is with any drug I suppose) and I know most of them are from long-term use and ten days isn't really long term use, but they still worry me! I'm on a preventer (symbicort), two puffs morning and night. But I still find I'm using my Ventolin at least 5 times a day (bad, I know!!
Avatar f tn It was then that I researched the side effects of my prescribed drugs and determined that I should stop taking the Singulair. My doctor prescribed a replacement for Singulair, and within a month the numbness went away. Over the past few months I have tried to get back into running. I used to run frequently, always training for a 5k, 10k, or half-marathon, so not sprinting. I have never had a problem with my heart rate or my blood pressure, but now I do.
Avatar f tn My daughter had shared some startling findings with me. IMWAS SHOCKED TO READ EVEN ON THE GOVERNMENT WEB SITE ALL THE ADVERSE SIDE EFFECTS to this DRUG. ALL of the above mentioned were there. This leads me to this posting. It has been 3 weeks and she is still having some adverse side effects. They seem to come in waves. The chest tightness eased almost immediately. The fearful thoughts played out along with the anxiety for the first week. Then came insomnia.
Avatar n tn The psychiatric side effects are not limited to children and teens. I have found others like me online with some saying the side effects are permanent and all of those being children. The only adult who discussed a time frame for the side effects said that they lasted 2 years. I hope and pray that I am in the 2 year category. My pulmonologist says nothing about this even though he prescribed it for me.
Avatar n tn Did you look up side effects of your medication, as well asside effects if you are mixing certin ones, I suffer from an angziety disorder and here are certint hings I cannot eat and drink with my meds as well as other meds that cause complications with it. It's worth doing your reasurch, ever drug has their own offical website where you can get this information from but do soem side reasurch too because veryone reacts differently, good luck.
Avatar f tn Side effects and allergies to drugs would be very different. Side effects could improve over time or with improved inhaler techniques. Allergies would stop you from using the medication completely. Allergies to medications should be limitated to certain drugs or ones that work very similarly. There should be other inhaled steroids (same use as budesonide) that you should be able to safely use. Another possibility is singulair if the asthma is allergy based.
312330 tn?1245176752 Are any of you taking theophylline for your asthma? If so, have you had a lot of side effects from it? My doc is considering trying this, just looking for people's experience.
Avatar m tn I had used Advair in the past with no side effects. I lost my sense of smell and taste almost immediately. I could only taste sweet and salty, and could not smell at all. I stopped taking both of the new drugs and got on the internet to find answers. When I saw that others had lost smell and taste with Advair I contacted my doctor and pharmacist.
