Avatar m tn So I set up another appointment and right before I went in I started to feel better but my tests only showed I improved ten percent. Then he put me on prednisone and augmentin (sp) and said that I wasnt quite better yet and had not kicked the bronchitis. My issue is I started to feel better at the start of my my second round of antibiotics but now I feel bad again... I feel like I got tightness in the center of my chest like the top part of my lungs wont open up...
Avatar n tn My mom who is 86 was diagnosed with COPD years and years ago. She took singulair and flovent inhaler and walked 3 miles a day. Two years ago she needed to use Duoneb via nebulizer. She was not short of breath at any time but had a few bouts with chronic bronchitis. Since moving to Florida a year ago, her husband died in Dec of 2007 and she is now short of breath. Her pulmonologist in FL took her off all of lung medications and within 3 days she was wheezing like a maniac.
Avatar f tn I was finally diagnosed with hypogammaglobulinemia, after years of pneumonia and sinus infections, in 1989. A few months later, I had to have my middle and lower lobes of my right lung removed, due to damage during those years of misdiagnosis; those lobes were dead. During the past year, my primary had recommended that I get a pulmonologist; I was recommended to one and have seen her twice, and will again in April.
Avatar m tn Hello, I have been having some breathing problems latley and want to get a second opinion. Here is a brief description of my medical history. So to start I am a 21 year old male and have had asthma pretty much my whole life I also do have pretty bad allergys too. I do smoke and have been for about four years (please don't rip me a new one I know it is bad and I am basiclly adding fuel to the fire). I am about 150 pounds and stand 5'9" and lift weights occasionly.
Avatar n tn The 2 classes are 1) inhaled steroids and 2) orally administered medicines that block biochemical asthma pathways involved in asthma worsening, an example of which is Singulair® (montelukast sodium). A third group of asthma medicines commonly used are, medicines similar to Xopenex® Inhalation Solution (levalbuterol) but long acting for 8 to 12 hours. These medicines might or might not result in hyperactivity and should be the last to be considered, especially for a young child. Good luck.
Avatar m tn Hi. I am 46 and never had any respiratory issues until 2004, when I was diagnosed with acute asthma like your daughter--out of the blue. I take the same meds she does and also use a nebulizer (breathing machine) 4 times a day along with 2 COPD meds even though I don't have copd. I am also allergic to 13 trees, grasses & weeds and take zyrtec or claritin daily. Attacks are pretty scarey, as the tightness doesn't allow you to fill your lungs even though you're physically inhaling.
Avatar f tn I saw your post and my heart went out to you. I have copd and was diagnosed in sept. 09. I can only tell you how it feels to me. Maybe it will help. I feel like my lungs are too big for my rib cage most of the time. I am short of breath all of the time. I thought I had phenomena but it was inflammation of the bronchial tubes. I was hospitalized with an oxy level of 63. I was at death's door. They said I was not going to make it.
Avatar m tn It causes asthma (Arizona Cypress, Mesquite and Palo Verde are the culprits.) Singulair has helped me very successfully in the past. However, I also take a very low dose blood pressure medication (Lisinopril 20mg). I do not have health insurance and have an alternative source for medications. Would it be advisable for me to purchase Singulair for 3 months to get me through those three months next year. This year was a bit difficult without it.
920032 tn?1550680156 lately my overnight breathing is causing me problems. i asked my gp for singulair but she prescribed atrovent. it does get mucus up but i am waking to cough it up. i have excersize induced asthma. it was on this site that i heard about singulair.
Avatar m tn i was not warned of the possible side effects like so many other parents and patients. there is also some thought that singulair is being linked to suicide in teenagers. you can google suicide and singulair and watch a family's story about their son's suicide. also look up your child's medications on www.medications.com. i hope this message reaches other parents with children on singulair.
Avatar f tn If on copd meds, if you never seen allergist do so. They had me on COPD meds, Singulair, an BEnadryl for 10 years; an they never sent me to an allergist. When i finally was sent to one by new dr years later, he was peed off no one sent me to an allergist; whom specializes in allergies, an CoPD/breathing issues. HE tested me on breathing tests; treadmill; an ran 25 prick test. He said i had no COPD; an yanked me off the 3 meds after 10 years.
937826 tn?1261333879 I have COPD and Asthma and am on nocturnal oxygen. I also have pain in the middle of my chest, my neck and shoulders. My doctor believes this is my lungs, not my heart. To be safe, I have had stress tests, and a variety of other heart related tests, all come out negative. The difficulty breathing, coughing, and shortness of breath are probably due to COPD, but do you have a pulmonary specialist you can see about it or are you just seeing a GP?
Avatar f tn I looked up the Spriometry test on good old Med-Help website, and that told me it was used in diagnosing COPD. That sounds like a really scary problem. I had a lung X-ray last fall that didn't show any problems. So back in limbo with this problem too. Wouldn't you think some doctor would just jump up and say, "You have this!!) They all seem to want to just wait and see, and we'll look into it and do more testing later.
Avatar n tn My breathing has become a little more difficult, is so for most of the time, and is worst in the morning. My inhalers help but most weeks I have a slight breathing difficulty most of the time. Some weeks, my chest feels completely clear. I can't pin down any differences in circumstance/lifestyle about these weeks except vacations. No wheezing, no heavy sputum - occasional coughs. I've had some tests. Blood oxygen normal/good (98% but can't remember 98% of what!).
620048 tn?1358018235 Hi, Meg. I just did a very quick check and found that both sailorsong and siv1 have COPD. There may be lots of others. If neither of these is the one you're thinking of, go to the Search this Community box (upper right) and type in COPD. You'll get a lot of matches which you then can look at.
Avatar n tn 2 years ago he was put on Advair disk inhaler, Singulair, and Allegra D as his regimen. After about a month he started having a problem with his legs and groin itching. He took himself off the Singulair as that is what he decided was the problem. He has gotten by with just the Advair inhaler. In the past month he's really been struggling with breathing problems.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I've been trying a trial of diamox to see if it will help my sleep apnea, it's supposed to increase respiration
Avatar f tn Weight reduction, if you are overweight or obese, is the optimal health strategy for patients who suffer from COPD. This can be done through a combination of diet, an increase in physical activity and sometimes medication. Weight reduction can help reduce dyspnea, increase exercise tolerance and improve your quality of life. Incorporating pulmonary rehabilitation in to your COPD treatment plan may help you begin an exercise program if you are obese. I hope this helps.
