Singulair in asthma

Common Questions and Answers about Singulair in asthma

singulair

370736 tn?1247242917 I have asthma and use inhaler (long acting and short acting) and Singulair. My pulmonary doc and OB said they're fine to use in pregnancy. I have been using my inhaler a lot more during pregnancy and I'm pretty sure it's because we are now breathing for 2 and our blood flow (which carries oxygen) is going for 2.
Avatar m tn I have mild asthma. I do not use inhalers at this time. I'm a singer, age 62 in generally good health. My allergy season is January through March in Arizona. It causes asthma (Arizona Cypress, Mesquite and Palo Verde are the culprits.) Singulair has helped me very successfully in the past. However, I also take a very low dose blood pressure medication (Lisinopril 20mg). I do not have health insurance and have an alternative source for medications.
Avatar m tn My son started taking Singulair in Oct.2012, and then he started complaining about his leg, some kind of weird sensation. He called itchy feeling, but it was something he could not scratch away, something underneath the skin. He kept asking me to punch his leg with a 5-pound dumbbell. He wakes up twice or three times per night. He puts some hard things under his leg, and put press on it. He does it almost every night. He can't get enough sleep.
Avatar f tn I have always had difficulty breathing in high humidity. My doctor told me that I am most likely allergic to mold, and the humidity is causing this to be worse. I have been prescribed an albuterol inhaler, and usually only have to use it about 3 weeks out of the year. Otherwise, I take Singulair year round. This year the humidity is especially high. I have had trouble breathing for over a month now.
1135961 tn?1279145314 You should not take OTC meds when you have asthma without a doctor saying it is OK. Also a humidifier is contraindicated for people with asthma as it puts too much moisture in the air. Ideally you need 40-45% humidity, which is easily achieved with a central home heating and air system. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I've been on Advair since Sept 2007 with ZERO side effects. I used Zyrtac for my allergies. The pollen in Atlanta really aggravated my asthma when exercising outside, so my Doctor put my on Singulair. After two doses I'm itchy all over, including the groin! I'm going to stop taking the Singulair - these side effects aren't worth it!
920032 tn?1550680156 lately my overnight breathing is causing me problems. i asked my gp for singulair but she prescribed atrovent. it does get mucus up but i am waking to cough it up. i have excersize induced asthma. it was on this site that i heard about singulair.
Avatar f tn I find that just taking medications when needed is not really managing my asthma.
Avatar f tn ive always had asthma but it has been controlled by singulair. i rarely ever have to take my inhaler. now that im pregnant it some how triggered my asthma and singulair isnt helping at all. i have taken my inhaler a lot and that stops my wheezing but is it safe for the baby for me to be taking the inhaler this much?
1580703 tn?1651904887 It relaxes and opens the air passages in the lungs. It is the caffeine that makes this work. In the olden days that what people gave their children with asthma. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn hav been taking singulair for 3 years. Cramps in fingers, throat and leg occured common. Shoulders drooped. Standing and sitting posture gone really bad. Extreme tiredness 24X7. Always thirsty even after gulping bottles of water. Inactive physically and mentally. Become even more inferior in social gatherings and activities. Can't even meet minimum commitments and thus affects career and personal, family relationships. After dropping Everything became normal after 8 - 10 days.
640719 tn?1277140030 hmmmm Singulair is also an allergy medication (or suppose to be) but it may not be enough for you to control hayfever. It affects a different part of the immune system than the typical antihistamines so some people it works better on, some it does not work as well. From what I got out of the research results if that it does help allergic symptoms but not a huge amount, that is why it is an asthma medication that can also help allergies.
Avatar f tn Singulair and inhaled steroids are complementary in the treatment of asthma. Whether taking one or the other will suffice, instead of both, would best be determined by trial and error, with you and your doctor working together to reach that decision.
Avatar n tn I disagree with banshee86 - there is a large spectrum of severity in asthma and something is it not clear. If you are able to identify and stay away from your triggers, the symptoms are gone (might even be able to stop all medication) and thus "normal", well what if you don't know your triggers and unintentionally are removed from it for the time being?
Avatar f tn I have the same problem, pain in the lower chest it seems. I take symbicort and singulair. Does anyone know if this Zithromycin treatment works?
Avatar n tn We have seen an allergist and no allergens have been found to be positive. His asthma seems to flair up in the winter. He also gets extreme chapped lips and I am wondering if the three coincide? When he takes singulair and his asthma is well-controlled it seems like his lips get better. We have also noticed that whenever he goes to school his lips look terrible when he comes home. Could he be allergic to something at school? Thank you.
1154802 tn?1266485720 I have been prescribed prednisone to help keep my asthma under control twice in the past three months. I've noticed there are a lot of bad side effects (as there is with any drug I suppose) and I know most of them are from long-term use and ten days isn't really long term use, but they still worry me! I'm on a preventer (symbicort), two puffs morning and night. But I still find I'm using my Ventolin at least 5 times a day (bad, I know!!
Avatar m tn Can you tell me how many attacks of asthma your husband gets in a month and what medications is he using?
Avatar f tn PLEASE HELP Let me add that she is NOT in tears because the Singulair has made her depressed, we heard all about that in the news. She is in tears because of the agony she's in because of how BAD her arms and legs feel all the time!!!!!!!!!!!! My daughter is on Singulair and just finished a short course of Prednisone. On her 4th day [last day] of Prednisone, her legs and arms started to feel very weak and heavy and numb[she said they felt "thick"].
Avatar m tn i was not warned of the possible side effects like so many other parents and patients. there is also some thought that singulair is being linked to suicide in teenagers. you can google suicide and singulair and watch a family's story about their son's suicide. also look up your child's medications on www.medications.com. i hope this message reaches other parents with children on singulair.
Avatar f tn s hard to diagnose asthma in kids younger than 6-8 yrs. old. But I would try and keep him off all drugs as long as possible until you feel he really needs them. After awhile they lose their effect and if it was to get worse then they wouldn't be as effective. Go with your gut, mother's do know best and doctors just do their best guessing.
Avatar m tn So sorry to hear that. Is he being seen by a pulmonary specialist? Is he taking any sort of preventative medications apart from ventoIin? He obviously needs to have his asthma controlled. I do know that they don't like to over medicate children on steroid puffers. But I do believe they are allowed up to 400ug/day safely before any side effects become apparent, such as slowed growth. Does he have a lot of air born allergies?
7730563 tn?1393781747 My mother has full blown chronic asthma. I have been around this my entire life. Take the meds, its better for you in the long run.
Avatar f tn It turned out he had celiac disease, meaning he had to get gluten containing foods out of his diet. Gluten is found in wheat, barley, rye and oats. Within one month, his asthma was 98% gone - he said he felt he didn't need his inhalers or any other medication anymore. He took his one inhaler at bedtime - just one puff - "just in case". If you would like to try the diet, you will need the doctor's ok.
