Common Questions and Answers about Singulair how it works

singulair

Avatar m tn I was wonder how Singular works and if it will help me with itchy allergies and a nose that is always stuffy?
Avatar m tn I take Singulair for my asthma and it works wonders, but I am told, it's effect on allergies is very minimal. I have lots of allergies too but I have noticed, that over the counter meds like Alavert (or Walgreen's version) or ones similar, are better with allergies. My father says Singilair does help with his nasal polyps, but he also agrees it doesn't do anything for allergies.
920032 tn?1550680156 All those do is dry up the mucous and drainage - post nasal drip. I use it and love it. Singulair is a leukotriine modifier. That is one of the many chemicals involved in allergic reactions. As far as which is better, that would be hard to say. They have totally different purposes. Some people say that Singulair has little effect, while I won't miss a dose without having an attack.
Avatar f tn From your message, you appear to have an intolerance to the so-called non-sedating anti-histamines but hopefully will be able to take Singulair; it is a good drug for nasal allergies and also, for a fair number of people, effective treatment for asthma. And it is safe, not a cause of significant liver disease, and not associated with other side effects, deemed serious. To the best of our current knowledge, the long term use of a nasal steroid, as directed, does not pose a problem.
Avatar f tn I have been getting infections about 3-4 times a year. My Dr has recommended I try singualr along with Allegra and flonase. He had told me the SIngulair will not make me feel funny, cause anxiety or heart palps etc...yet I see there are a lot of negative side effects. Does anyone have any experience on this medicine or just how safe it is?
Avatar f tn I have the same problem, pain in the lower chest it seems. I take symbicort and singulair. Does anyone know if this Zithromycin treatment works?
Avatar f tn I have been this route, nothing works but you can make your self sick trying all the powerful stuff they want to give you, Iam trying a Histimine Free diet at presant and taking no prescribed or OTC drugs, I have come to the conclusion it will take its caurse,I have noticed it changes at times and I have been having Dermagraphism where a red itchy streak appears and leaves with a few minutes also big wheals and the Small spots you describe, all htis came on after Dental work done Mid May.
Avatar f tn Has your Dr considered Singulair? WELCOME!
640719 tn?1277140030 It affects a different part of the immune system than the typical antihistamines so some people it works better on, some it does not work as well. From what I got out of the research results if that it does help allergic symptoms but not a huge amount, that is why it is an asthma medication that can also help allergies. I would suggest getting a peak flow meter and keeping track of your values to see how much of a variation there is.
Avatar f tn You could ask your doctor about singulair. It is a leutotriene inhibitor and thus works different to control symptoms than steroids. However it doesn't work as well as inhaled steroids so typically is an add so one can lower their dose of steroids or in mild cases. At this point, inhaled steriods are the best choice for controlling asthma. It controls the inflammation in the lungs and prevents attacks.
460830 tn?1347219306 What was the problem with Singulair a while back? I heard something about it, but I never heard what the problem was with it.
Avatar m tn i hope this message reaches other parents with children on singulair. not all children have side effects but if your does, it may be difficult to realize it is the drug.
Avatar f tn My 2 year old son acquired severe RSV at 6 weeks old. Ever since then he now has virally induced asthma. So he's been hospitalized a few times with bronchiolitis when he was 1 years old. The typical treatment has been 2ce a day pulmicort and 3xs a day to every 4 hours of albuterol. If that didn't work they would add predisone and sometimes zithromax. And those combos knocked it out. Well he now has 3 weeks of a rattling cough that just doesn't go away.
Avatar n tn Get off Singulair and get on OCTACOSANOL. This stuff works better than Mercks ( montelukast sodium ) except it has no side effects and its quicker and cheaper. Then kiss your and your sons Asthma goodby. No more coughing at any time in the for eather of you. bill103 ....
Avatar n tn My allergiest prescribed Singulair for my season allergies not for PLE. But trust me it works! I have suffered with this for 20 years. Good luck!
Avatar m tn He stopped taking Singulair in Nov.2013, but his muscle problems remained. I am not 100% sure whether it was caused by Singulair and if yes how long he will have to wait until the effect is gone. Could this be Churg-Strauses? As parents, we are VERY worried. He needs sleep. He used to play sports, just like other boys, but now he can't do anything. He is tired all the time. Could you please contact me at ***@**** if you have any info? Please help save my son!
Avatar f tn I am a mother of a 26 year daughter who recently pulled the plug on taking a daily dose of Singulair (it was generic) after over a year. It was used as a maintenance treatment for chronic allergies and sinus infections. Seemed to work ok, however in the 6 months there had been a couple times she rushed herself to the doctor for symptoms that no one even thought to suspect the allergy medication. First there was numbing and tingling in her arms.
312330 tn?1245176752 I took it years ago and it seemed to help. One thing I remember is that it did cause me to be a bit jittery, but I am sensitive to alot of meds. Doctors also monitored me for theophylline toxicity on a regular basis. I was on it for over a year and then they switched my meds around to what they are currently because I was still having alot of problems with my symptoms...
Avatar m tn Thank you very much for your response...your response itself gave me some relief...I will need to contact my doctor....I am worried because I am expecting kids and I heard that this decease usually progress. I quit smokking, and doing regular excercise..so I am hopping that I can slow don progresion....

Avatar n tn I have looked up the side effects of both Singulair and Advair. It seems that both can cause skin issues. I just know that he's been using the Advair all along with no problems but once he started the Singulair the itching returned. Now I will have to say that the past two days have been better. Maybe his body needed to adjust? Dunno.
Avatar f tn i rarely ever have to take my inhaler. now that im pregnant it some how triggered my asthma and singulair isnt helping at all. i have taken my inhaler a lot and that stops my wheezing but is it safe for the baby for me to be taking the inhaler this much?
