Singulair for the treatment of asthma

Common Questions and Answers about Singulair for the treatment of asthma

singulair

Avatar f tn Singulair and inhaled steroids are complementary in the treatment of asthma. Whether taking one or the other will suffice, instead of both, would best be determined by trial and error, with you and your doctor working together to reach that decision.
1135961 tn?1279145314 Thank you very much for your response. I made an appointment with a specailist to see what he says. I think maybe your right about the allergies, because I seem to always get these attacks when Im at home. I vacume everyday , and use a humindifier. Would it help to take claritine ? A friend told me to get a purifier ? Does that help?
Avatar m tn Call your doctor ASAP to make adjustments in your treatment. I have never heard of twitching with Singulair, but it is a side effect of other asthma meds. Be sure to let your doctor know that you have stopped taking Singulair this week and watch for signs of uncontrolled asthma - increased use of inhaler, coughing, sighing... There are a lot of subtle signs that people miss. You do need to be off the med, but be careful. Take care and I am glad you are feeling better.
370736 tn?1247242917 Hi everyone! Does anyone else out there have asthma? This is my first pregnancy with asthma and the whole thing is putting me on edge. I just got over a bad cold and had to use inhalers etc. Even when I didn't have the cold I already felt breathless at times. I think it is part of the whole hormonal thing but just double checking to see if anyone else has had similar symptoms. Thanks.
Avatar m tn While these cost as much as sixty dollars each in the United States Wal-Mart had a generic brand for sale (in store only) for less than ten dollars. I also question the use of a blood pressure medication for anyone suffering asthmatic attacks unless absolutely positively necessary. Blood pressure medications work by reducing the ability of the heart to inclrease blood pressure in an emergency. Blood pressure rises as a compensatory reaction when there is an asthmatic attack.
460830 tn?1347219306 Singulair could cause depression & suicide for some people that used it.
Avatar m tn It blocks the activity of undesirable leukotrienes , produced by the body, that cause the symptoms you describe. It is often helpful for the treatment of nasal allergies, its biologic action different than that of antihistamines and inhaled nasal steroids but its actions often complementary to these drugs. It is often effective for the symptoms you describe.
Avatar f tn I have the same problem, pain in the lower chest it seems. I take symbicort and singulair. Does anyone know if this Zithromycin treatment works?
7730563 tn?1393781747 This is not good for the baby. That is why a breathing treatment with the machine is a last resort. If the medicine helps control your breathing and helps you maintain a good respiratory level I would take them. Your doctor isn't going to prescribe something that's going to do more harm than good. My mother has full blown chronic asthma. I have been around this my entire life. Take the meds, its better for you in the long run.
Avatar m tn my son was on singulair for over 3 years. he was taking the drug for treatment of mild asthma and allergies. he suffered from undetected side effects for 3 years. the side effects were sneaky and subtle and i did not pick up on the cause. at the age of 7, his physician increased his dosage to 5mg due to his age. after that increase, his side effects became loud and clear.
Avatar f tn albuterol (the emergency inhaler), Singulair (I take 10mg once every night), and one puff twice a day of Dulera with a chamber (I always rinse afterwards). It seems like a lot of meds. I’ve been on Singulair and albuterol for a few weeks, and I’ve been taking Dulera for about a week now. I guess I’m just worried that those meds shouldn’t be taken as much as I’m taking them/together in the first place.
640719 tn?1277140030 I would suggest getting a peak flow meter and keeping track of your values to see how much of a variation there is. This will help to show you if the Singulair is controlling the asthma or if another medication would be a better choice. The peak flow meter helps me a lot, they are times when I am stressed out and think I can't breathe and my peak flow has only dropped 10% so it would still be in the okay range.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I assume, from your statement, that “the wheezing and chest tightness” is of new onset, having begun just ten weeks ago. This could be asthma and/or the lingering effects of an episode of acute bronchitis, 10 weeks ago. Given your current drug therapy, it is possible but highly unlikely that the addition of some type of theophylline could provide additional benefit. Sleep apnea can make asthma worse and vice versa.
Avatar f tn s been hospitalized a few times with bronchiolitis when he was 1 years old. The typical treatment has been 2ce a day pulmicort and 3xs a day to every 4 hours of albuterol. If that didn't work they would add predisone and sometimes zithromax. And those combos knocked it out. Well he now has 3 weeks of a rattling cough that just doesn't go away. They said no wheeze and we've been doing the pulmicort and albuterol. Well it isnt' helping. So the ped feels we'll add Singulair.
Avatar f tn My inhaler ran out about a month ago (and was expired anyway). I ran out of my Singulair and was too busy to refill my prescription for a couple of weeks. I finally refilled the Singulair 3 days ago, and the next day (after showing numerous homes) I felt like I was having a full-blown asthma attack. I could not get a deep breath, and realized I was beginning to hyperventilate. I called my doctor after hours and he called in a new prescription for an inhaler.
Avatar f tn m hoping to find long term treatment for the underlying problem. Has anyone else had similar problems? Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn Singular made me itch from head to toe. Doctor decided that the best idea was to take me off the zirtec I've taken for a couple of years, and the itching got worse. Stopped the singular, and started taking my zirtec and itching stopped.
Avatar f tn Well the meds, there the best for your symptoms, thank goodness you have a good doctor. If you are not experiencing any uncomfortable side effects, well that is great, it means that these meds. suit you.
Avatar f tn I find that just taking medications when needed is not really managing my asthma.
Avatar f tn html) On the other hand, singulair is a medicine called a leukotriene receptor antagonist and prescribed for the treatment of asthma and allergic rhinitis:The most common side effects include: stomach pain, heartburn, stuffy nose, flu, dizziness, headache or rash. 920032 tn?1550680156 He prescribed me with the symbicort turbuhaler and I have one puff off this once a day and in the past 2 months that I have been on it, I have pretty much forgotten that I am asthmatic, even through the extreme cold in the last couple of weeks. By this time of the year I have normally suffered through Bronchitis at least twice, I am still waiting for my first one this year...
Avatar f tn i have taken my inhaler a lot and that stops my wheezing but is it safe for the baby for me to be taking the inhaler this much?
1491252 tn?1297450771 With good control and treatment, your asthma should not keep you from participating in any activity that you enjoy. An allergist treats for quality of life, not just keeping you out of the hospital as many general practitioners do. Take care and feel better.
1580703 tn?1651904887 It relaxes and opens the air passages in the lungs. It is the caffeine that makes this work. In the olden days that what people gave their children with asthma. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Methacholine challenge is the gold star and is a little more sensitive to asthma than just a basic pft - gives your doctor more information on the severity of the asthma. Might be worth getting done for you. No way - we like questions!!
Avatar f tn You should try the Singulair because this can be more effective for controlling the Allergic Rhinitis and the Asthma. The physician can CLOSELY monitor your liver with labs while you are taking the medication. Liver issues CAN develop on this drug; remember this is NOT a given meaning this doesn't mean this WILL happen.
Avatar m tn thank you for the warm welcome my husband doctor thinks its chemical related due to his work but will hear from them soon thank you ..
