singulair

Avatar n tn t been sleeping well at night for the past 3 weeks because of the nasal congestion and have been waking up with a nasty dry mouth in the morning. I have tried benadryl, claritin 24 hrs tablets, zyrtec (also 24 hr tablet), nasal spray (some kind of anticholinergic solution), Singulair and phenylephrine so far. Benadryl doesn't really work for me anymore and claritin and zyrtec are effective for only half the day.
Avatar f tn ” With “never drainage/congestion/fever” and “never gets congestion, sneezing, post-nasal drip, etc” and a borderline normal CT scan, the evidence for chronic sinusitis is scant. The American Academy of Otolaryngology (ENT) classifies sinus symptoms as follows: Major: Facial pressure, congestion, nasal obstruction, a runny nose and a reduced sense of smell. And, Minor: Headache, fever, halitosis, fatigue, dental pain, cough and ear pain.

I will also add..About 10 months, I got a referral to an ENT who did a very brief exam of my nasal passages and ordered sinus x-rays.They came back normal.

Avatar f tn From your message, you appear to have an intolerance to the so-called non-sedating anti-histamines but hopefully will be able to take Singulair; it is a good drug for nasal allergies and also, for a fair number of people, effective treatment for asthma. And it is safe, not a cause of significant liver disease, and not associated with other side effects, deemed serious. To the best of our current knowledge, the long term use of a nasal steroid, as directed, does not pose a problem.
Avatar m tn Deviated nasal septum, nasal polyps and tumors can also cause persistent nasal congestion. Worms in stool can raise the eosinophil count (a part of the white blood cell count) and thus increase the possibility of nasal congestion. You’ll have to discuss all these possibilities with your doctor. The nasal passages will have to be examined. Complete blood count and stool test may be required. You may need to get X-rays or CT scans too. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn If nothing natural works or otc meds, you may want to ask your Dr about Singulair or using a steroid nasal spray for awhile .. there are some that are more mild than others and approved for use in kids .. so maybe something like that is a thought. Keep us posted -- so sorry this is going on. You think weeds maybe?
Avatar m tn It blocks the activity of undesirable leukotrienes , produced by the body, that cause the symptoms you describe. It is often helpful for the treatment of nasal allergies, its biologic action different than that of antihistamines and inhaled nasal steroids but its actions often complementary to these drugs. It is often effective for the symptoms you describe.
Avatar m tn Had sudden onset of acute nasal congestion 2 years ago and has been chronic ever since. I originally thought it my be my cats who moved in three months prior but had allergy test which results have been negative. Have seen ENT who looked through scope and found nothing other than inflamation of right turbinate, preformed CT scan of sinus with no sign of infection.
Avatar n tn Hello, All these symptoms can be related to the nasal polyp because nasal polyps and deviated nasal septum are a source of recurrent sinusitis.I think that you should take a second opinion from another ENT surgeon regarding this.

Avatar m tn Have you tried using a Nedi pot with a saline solution to help clear your nasal passages? You can probably pick one up at a local health food store if you want to try it. Yeah, it's sort of gross and a bit tough to get used to, but it did wondesr to clear congestion for me.
Avatar m tn Symptoms start with headache followed by congestion in my nose, nasal dripping in back of throat and chest congestion. The congestion builds to the point where I can't talk or difficult for people to understand me. When I call the doctor he prescribes a 7 day course of antibiotic and I am better for about 30 to 45 days. I work with pulmonary doctor who sees me for asthma and I use Advair 500/50 along with Allegra D and Singulair and I do regular sinus rinses.
Avatar f tn Do not use any other nasal spray. If your nose starts running excessively move to an OTC non-drowsy tablet for nasal congestion and take only one tablet a day.
Avatar f tn I had nasal congestion post pituitary surgery. I was recommended to use a nasal rinse - once a day for a few weeks - called NeilMed which worked a treat. It is used ideally in the morning to "irrigate" the nasal areas which really means to keep it moist.
Avatar f tn m thinking it turned into rebound congestion. Some days I have 0 congestion and some days I have some. Recently I started to cut down on the afrin (I went from twice a day to once a day) and I'm using Flonase. I don't have terrible congestion, but enough to bug me. I'm managing though. Recently I looked inside my nose and saw that it was red on the left side along my nasal wall.
Avatar f tn I am currently 14 weeks 6 days along in my pregnancy and have been suffering from a combination of allergies and nasal congestion for over 3 weeks. Benadryl helps with my allergy symptoms but does not alleviate my congestion. I have tried a neti pot, breathing strips and humidifier with none working. My doctor has an approved list of decongestants such as Sudafed but could not tell me if it was safe over prolonged use. They just said to follow the directions on the box.

Avatar f tn Lay on your left side. It's great for circulation. Also drink lots of fluids and make sure your room gets a lot of air circulated through it. If both nostrils are congested. When this happened to me I would lay on my back. Or stand up and bend over forwards a bit and then tilt my head up backwards.
