Avatar m tn I was wondering if anyone has experienced or heard of what I call "conversation-induced" asthma? I have seen a bit of information on laughter-induced asthma and suffer from exercise-induced asthma but can't find anything about asthma that comes on from simple talking. I usually begin to feel chest tightness and hoarseness if I am talking for more than 5-10 minutes. I begin producing mucous and albuterol does offer some relief.
Avatar n tn m very allergic to many things), asthma tests w/wo albuteral (positive for exercise induced asthma), many chest x-rays (positive for hyperinflated lungs), Sinus catscan (positive for some chronic damage). During the last 7 months, I've tried sinus rinses, Protonix, Prevacid, Symbacort, 2 different antibiotics, Singulair, Allegra, several steroid injections, various different steroidal nasal sprays. None of these medications have provided ANY relief. I'm at my wits end.
Avatar n tn But when I go out for exercise I wear a paper mask over my mouth. With a mask I can walk a 12 minute 1/4 mile. With out the mask I walk a 15 minute mile. So you can see how my allergies affect my times. I'd start with a pulmonologist to clear lung problems or infection. After that might try an allergist. I also have asthma that only happens when I reach a specific level of exercise and doesn't show otherwise besides allergy induced. Sorry to hear that you are having problems.
1844885 tn?1330536610 It IS possible to have exercise induced asthma - my youngest nephew was diagnosed with it several years ago. He never had any trouble any othe rtimes except upon exertion such as during PE class in school. His doctor prescribed him an inhaler to use about 30 minutes prior to exercise and it has definitely helped. While being out of shape can also cause breathing difficulties, it sounds like you are normally a runner, so it doesn't sound like being out of shape isyour problem.
Avatar m tn a month ago, ive started doing vigorous exercises which led me to be diagnosed with exercise-induced asthma. the pulmonologist gave me some medicines to take e.g montelukast, ventolin inhaler and symbicort. Xray for the sinus and chest were also ordered which resulted to bilateral nasal congestion and clear chest. The problem is, I have been experiencing symptom of dizziness. Its been a month now and I could not take it anymore. As if I am floating always.
Avatar n tn While an enlarged heart may be due to years of weightlifting, HCM is now known to be found in 1/500 and most of us with HCM have been diagnosed incorrectly as having exercise induced asthma. HCM is the # 1 leading cause of Sudden Cardiac Death among young athletes.
3244521 tn?1346861134 also I'm still unable to take the asthma medications Singulair and Qvar steroid inhaler, is it possible that They were contributing to my high Sugar levels?
370736 tn?1247242917 so far I have 3 for Singulair and 1 for Advair...good luck!
Avatar f tn My 2 year old son acquired severe RSV at 6 weeks old. Ever since then he now has virally induced asthma. So he's been hospitalized a few times with bronchiolitis when he was 1 years old. The typical treatment has been 2ce a day pulmicort and 3xs a day to every 4 hours of albuterol. If that didn't work they would add predisone and sometimes zithromax. And those combos knocked it out. Well he now has 3 weeks of a rattling cough that just doesn't go away.

1580703 tn?1651904887 Try taking your rescue inhaler before you start running - sometimes exercise can trigger asthma attacks. Your body needs exercise but will take time to build up the fitness. Start slow but continue - each week you should be able to go farther than before. Good luck and great job on wanting to work on your fitness levels!
Avatar m tn Actually some doctors consider exercise induced asthma to be a mild form of asthma itself. For normal asthma sufferers having problems after exercising is a sign that their asthma is out of control. It is also the last thing to clear up, when the asthma is getting back into control. I do agree that being out of shape can cause breathlessness while exercising. I have always found that running exacerbates my asthma the most as it is the most intense activity you can do to set it off.
1491252 tn?1297450771 Okay, so I went to the doctor, I have asthma and i was put on albuteral sulfate, which is the stuff in my inhaler. i tried out for track and my asthma got way worse and i couldn't run and sports and exercising are my favorite things to do. i am a very active in school and sports and band, but my asthma used to only act up during band when i carried a bass drum around, and then i tried exercising to help controll it, but it only got worse.
Avatar m tn I take Singulair for my asthma and it works wonders, but I am told, it's effect on allergies is very minimal. I have lots of allergies too but I have noticed, that over the counter meds like Alavert (or Walgreen's version) or ones similar, are better with allergies. My father says Singilair does help with his nasal polyps, but he also agrees it doesn't do anything for allergies.
Avatar n tn I was wondering if anyone who has exercise induced asthma could tell me what their symptoms are and how it differs from someone with regular asthma.... I have been mountain biking and exercising for over 3 years and my cardio/endurance has very very slowy gotten better compared to other riders of my skill and age for that matter. I am 27 years old male 5'10 200 pounds.
Avatar n tn I had asthma as a child and was on daily meds for excercise induced asthma. i never had a very bad attack i just would have to sit down for awhile. The symptoms all but went away when i was 18 so when i was 20 i joined the U.S. Marine Corps. After 2 years the symptoms came back during a deployment last year, much worse than they had ever been. Now I am a liability to my fellow marines and cannot fullfill my duties as an infantryman.
Avatar n tn Hi I have had a cough now for about 10 weeks and so has my son I have also been suffering from asthma like symptoms my doctor believes I have 'viral induced asthma' and has prescribed me with ventolin. This does make breathing easier but can I become dependent on it even once the virus has gone? Many thanks in advance for advice.
Avatar m tn hav been taking singulair for 3 years. Cramps in fingers, throat and leg occured common. Shoulders drooped. Standing and sitting posture gone really bad. Extreme tiredness 24X7. Always thirsty even after gulping bottles of water. Inactive physically and mentally. Become even more inferior in social gatherings and activities. Can't even meet minimum commitments and thus affects career and personal, family relationships. After dropping Everything became normal after 8 - 10 days.
Avatar f tn From your message, you appear to have an intolerance to the so-called non-sedating anti-histamines but hopefully will be able to take Singulair; it is a good drug for nasal allergies and also, for a fair number of people, effective treatment for asthma. And it is safe, not a cause of significant liver disease, and not associated with other side effects, deemed serious. To the best of our current knowledge, the long term use of a nasal steroid, as directed, does not pose a problem.
Avatar f tn Thanks for all your responses. I know it's safe to dive if I have normal post exercise PFT (which I haven't been tested for) and have not needed to use a rescue inhaler for stress or exercise induced episodes (which I haven't). I guess I'm lucky since so far my only problems have been allergy related. Thanks for the info on the formoterol. I'll file that one away if I need it. Well off to Fiji next month for some of the best diving in the world.
Avatar n tn There's a difference between "exercise induced asthma" (EIA) and asthma. I know, I'm a college wrestler and I have both. And yes, I was prescribed albuterol as a prevention medicine before every practice and every match. If you read the prescribing info for albuterol, you'll see very clearly that it is both a rescue medicine AND a preventative treatment for EIA.
Avatar n tn My pulmonologist said I might have some "underlying asthma" but didn't say for sure. Does anyone know what this might mean. I forgot to ask him. Stupid, I know. THanks.
Avatar n tn Since we discovered the loss - and got the aid - just over a year ago, his behavior and speech have improved. He also has allergy induced asthma. He takes Singulair daily and takes Pulmicort and Xopenex as needed via nebulizer when he starts to show signs of coughing. My husband and I went to his parent-teacher conference yesterday - for pre-school - and we were advised by his team (speech therapist, psychologist, etc.) that we should discuss his behavior with our pediatrician.
Avatar m tn If you cough, wheeze or feel out of breath during or after exercise, it may be more than exertion causing your symptoms. You might have exercise-induced asthma. As with asthma triggered by other things, exercise-induced asthma symptoms occur when your airways tighten and produce extra mucus." http://www.nationaljewish.org/healthinfo/conditions/asthma/types/exercise-induced/index.
