Singulair and steroids

Common Questions and Answers about Singulair and steroids

singulair

1154802 tn?1266485720 I also use Symbicort and was using my inhaler quite a bit...every night and 1-3 times during the day. I started taking Singulair a month ago and I don't use my inhaler nearly as much anymore. I've used it 3 times at night in the past month (2 of the times I forgot to take Singulair) and a few random times during the day/evening. Just a thought if you don't already take it and you have allergy issues. Take care.
Avatar m tn It causes asthma (Arizona Cypress, Mesquite and Palo Verde are the culprits.) Singulair has helped me very successfully in the past. However, I also take a very low dose blood pressure medication (Lisinopril 20mg). I do not have health insurance and have an alternative source for medications. Would it be advisable for me to purchase Singulair for 3 months to get me through those three months next year. This year was a bit difficult without it.
Avatar m tn It is often helpful for the treatment of nasal allergies, its biologic action different than that of antihistamines and inhaled nasal steroids but its actions often complementary to these drugs. It is often effective for the symptoms you describe.
Avatar f tn You could ask your doctor about singulair. It is a leutotriene inhibitor and thus works different to control symptoms than steroids. However it doesn't work as well as inhaled steroids so typically is an add so one can lower their dose of steroids or in mild cases. At this point, inhaled steriods are the best choice for controlling asthma. It controls the inflammation in the lungs and prevents attacks.
370736 tn?1247242917 I have asthma and use inhaler (long acting and short acting) and Singulair. My pulmonary doc and OB said they're fine to use in pregnancy. I have been using my inhaler a lot more during pregnancy and I'm pretty sure it's because we are now breathing for 2 and our blood flow (which carries oxygen) is going for 2.
Avatar n tn and allergic to cats, dust, mold and pollen, . In the summer of 2008 he was on daily doses of Singulair, Claritin, Qvar, and Rhinocort. Concerned over this amount of medication for someone this young I sought a second opinion. That doctor took him off all the medications and he was fine with no adverse reactions but occasionly felt he need an albuterol inhaler.

Avatar m tn As, Singulair (montelukast) is used to prevent asthma attacks in adults and children. Singulair 10mg tablets contain the active ingredient montelukast, which is a type of medicine known as a leukotriene receptor antagonist. You may need regular inhaled corticosteroids and short-acting beta agonist such as salbutamol, to relieve your symptoms. Nebulization may help. Sometimes, steroids may be needed to control the symptoms.
640719 tn?1277140030 I do use a peak flow meter and I've been staying good. My doctor that passed/drowned told me if I got into a certain range to call him but now I can't do that and I'm feeling fearful with this hayfever kicking up. This morning I feel a bit better after 3 days of the nasal spray. I have all the scripts he gave me but I'm not sure what his plan was.
Avatar m tn Other medicines that can control your asthma, which should be a priority, and not cause tachycardia are inhaled steroids and a class of medicines called leukotriene inhibitors, such as Singulair® (montelukast sodium). You should discuss these with your doctor. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I've recently been diagnosed with asthma and was prescribed ventolin and budesonide inhalers. After a few days of suffering side effects and getting much worse I went back to the doctor and he confirmed that I am allergic to budesonide, which he said is quite unusual. He prescribed me atrovent but from what I understand it is usually a substitute for ventolin not steroids.
Avatar n tn My wife has been Dx'ed with Lupus for a while now. She initially did chemo and steroids to get everything under control, and while she is usually fine, she does deal with a lot of fatigue. She started having noticeable cardiac issues (flutters, racing, chest pain) over the summer, which eventually resulted in a Holter monitor. She had her f/u with her cardiologist yesterday and was diagnosed with PVCs.
Avatar n tn Hello, Side effects of singulair are many varying from non serious ones like nausea, abdominal pain, headache, heart burns and GI discomfort to serious ones like anaphylaxis, liver damage and depression and hallucinations. You can take zytec(cetrizine) for your allergies but it is also not without side effects. They may vary from allergic reactions to raised heart beat, seizures and liver damage.
Avatar m tn Also take Singulair and Zyrtec every night.
Avatar m tn My daughter had acute bronchial asthma at the tender age of two and was on daily, regular meds as well as albuterol for rescue meds and steroids for lungs and through the nose for chronic allergic rhinitis. After 5 years of nonsense with these high dosages of meds and no long term results, we finally found the answer in salt therapy aka "halotherapy" or "speleotherapy" (cave salt therapy).
1580703 tn?1651904887 My doctor finally admitted me to the hospital and was able to get me weaned down with IV steroids and then a lower dose of the oral steroids when I was able to leave the hospital. He did it that way because of the fear and risk of complete adrenal crisis by lowering the steroid dose too quickly. It did have a crisis, but because I was already in the hospital, they were able to treat it quickly and avoid a horrific outcome.
Avatar n tn t want to do inhaled steroids, and your asthma is mild enough, then you should consider Singulair. Theophylline is used when inhaled steroids is not enough and the physician wants to avoid prescribing oral steroids (ex. Prednisone), which has terrible side effects over the long term. I can understand your doctor's hesitancy to prescribe this particular drug to you, when there are many better alternatives.
Avatar n tn now doctor has advised me to take odimont-lc, fluticone ft, Medrol-4 mg formanide....my doubt now is does any of these medicines contain steroids and if so will it have any other side effect ....since i have been advised to take the above said medicines for a month......i am slightly confused what to do???? kindly clarify.....
Avatar f tn Last night I tried SIngulair since his pulmicort is no longer working as a stand alone drug and he was up crying and saying "ear ear" from 3am to 8:30am. So I do believe you. Singulair also said hallucinations, etc. I hate that any kid has to put up with this. I'm sad for you since all of this is very scary. Are you seeing a specialist or just a ped? Just giving you my empathy and support. This road is scary.
Avatar n tn At his most recent doctor visit last week, he was prescribed steroids, Zithromax, an inhaler, and Singulair. So far there has been no change and tomorrow will be his last day of antibiotics and steroids. We are at a loss for ideas and his patience for seeing doctors (and funds for it) is wearing thin. Any suggestions? Ideas? Cures? Thanks!
Avatar m tn he began to have a facial tic, dilated pupils and hallucinations. i finally got the message and discontinued the singulair after researching the drug on the internet. after 3 weeks, he was like a different child. he was happier and healthier. his fears, anxiety and all the other side effects just disappeared. this drug can have devastating effects and be undetected by parents. children are unable to express the way the drug is making them feel.
920032 tn?1550680156 All those do is dry up the mucous and drainage - post nasal drip. I use it and love it. Singulair is a leukotriine modifier. That is one of the many chemicals involved in allergic reactions. As far as which is better, that would be hard to say. They have totally different purposes. Some people say that Singulair has little effect, while I won't miss a dose without having an attack.
Avatar f tn My Dr has recommended I try singualr along with Allegra and flonase. He had told me the SIngulair will not make me feel funny, cause anxiety or heart palps etc...yet I see there are a lot of negative side effects. Does anyone have any experience on this medicine or just how safe it is?
460830 tn?1347219306 Singulair is a leukotriene (loo-koe-TRY-een) inhibitor. Leukotrienes are chemicals your body releases when you breathe in an allergen (such as pollen). These chemicals cause swelling in your lungs and tightening of the muscles around your airways, which can result in asthma symptoms. Singulair is used to prevent asthma attacks in adults and children as young as 12 months old. It is also used to relieve runny nose and sneezing caused by allergies in adults and children as young as 6 months old.
Avatar n tn No I have not had a topical steroid prescribed, I go see the dentist on next Tuesday, the only medication i am prescribed is Valtrex, Singulair, Rhinocort, and Yaz, just started Yaz this month. However, been on Valtrex consist for a year nearly now.
