Common Questions and Answers about Singulair and liver problems

singulair

Avatar f tn I have AIH and am on 50 mg of Imuran and 2.5 mg of prednisone daily. My liver is stage 3 but the disease is under control. I get such allergies from outside in spring and fall that it literally puts me down. Everything I read that is out there is not for people with liver problems. I used to be on daily doses of singulair but have been off for them for quite a few years. Is there anything I can buy either via a doctor or on the market to help me that wont harm me more?

Avatar f tn What steroid inhaler is working well for you? You stated you had problems with Symbicort and I am assuming you are no longer using that. Correct? You should try the Singulair because this can be more effective for controlling the Allergic Rhinitis and the Asthma. The physician can CLOSELY monitor your liver with labs while you are taking the medication. Liver issues CAN develop on this drug; remember this is NOT a given meaning this doesn't mean this WILL happen.
Avatar n tn Do you think you had a propensity for panic and the singulair just brought it out? Would think this could happen. Singulair does tend to be linked to psychiatric issues and panic especially in pediatric populations (up to 19 yrs). Unfortunately, now it would be best to avoid all medications similar of that class in the future. Unfortunate as being asthmatic can definitely make life also quite difficult. I feel for you. Have you ever tried acupuncture?
Avatar n tn Thyroid hormones/antibodies are within range (other than 1 slightly elevated free T4), but right lobe of thyroid gland was found to be enlarged on ultrasound (endocrinologist does not believe that to be the cause). Liver enzymes originally checked in December and found to be on high end of normal. Retested in March '10 and found to be slightly elevated. Retested again in April '10 and found to be increasing slowly.
460830 tn?1347219306 Singulair is a leukotriene (loo-koe-TRY-een) inhibitor. Leukotrienes are chemicals your body releases when you breathe in an allergen (such as pollen). These chemicals cause swelling in your lungs and tightening of the muscles around your airways, which can result in asthma symptoms. Singulair is used to prevent asthma attacks in adults and children as young as 12 months old. It is also used to relieve runny nose and sneezing caused by allergies in adults and children as young as 6 months old.
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm a 45 year old man, in pretty good shape. Workout every other day 5'11" 185lbs. History of seasonal allergies and sinsus problems. No history of Asthma. In November 2015, I had a really bad allergic reaction to a coworkers perfume and had a very difficult time recovering from it. In February 2016, my doctor prescribed Advair 250/50, once a day and Singulair 10mg at bedtime.

I am a former patient of Jewish and always grateful for the great care. Should I be worried about the length of time I was having problems, and what should I do. Thank you, K.
Avatar n tn Since April of 2009, I have been having strange urinary problems. For about 3 weeks, I had increased urinary frequency and urgency, as well as painful urination. This seemed to come with thirst and dry mouth. The frequency and urgency have gone, as well as the increased thirst and dry mouth, but I am still stuck with painful urination. The urine now appears foamy as well. The pain is a burning when urinating, and then I get a lingering pain down what feels like the whole urethral tube.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I had a recent pulmonary function test and my FEV1 level went down to 73% even though I've been on Symbicort/singulair and prednisone 30mg day. I developed asthma after being around 2nd hand smoke for a few months. Does this mean that my lungs will get worse with time? What can I do to improve my lung function? thanks very much!
920032 tn?1550680156 All those do is dry up the mucous and drainage - post nasal drip. I use it and love it. Singulair is a leukotriine modifier. That is one of the many chemicals involved in allergic reactions. As far as which is better, that would be hard to say. They have totally different purposes. Some people say that Singulair has little effect, while I won't miss a dose without having an attack.
Avatar f tn it is a good drug for nasal allergies and also, for a fair number of people, effective treatment for asthma. And it is safe, not a cause of significant liver disease, and not associated with other side effects, deemed serious. To the best of our current knowledge, the long term use of a nasal steroid, as directed, does not pose a problem. However, if your symptoms diminish during certain seasons, you may not and should not take the drug during those times.
Avatar n tn 2 years ago he was put on Advair disk inhaler, Singulair, and Allegra D as his regimen. After about a month he started having a problem with his legs and groin itching. He took himself off the Singulair as that is what he decided was the problem. He has gotten by with just the Advair inhaler. In the past month he's really been struggling with breathing problems.
Avatar f tn I am a 30 year old female, relatively healthy (aside from some autoimmune problems). I am taking coumadin (for an autoimmune blood clotting disorder), glucophage, and singulair. I recently had a physical and had some "blips" in my blood work. here are the blips with normal ranges in (). I am concerned about these numbers, especially the liver function tests. I have a call in to my dr, but she can't see me this week. The nurse who did the blood work suggested that it is mono.
Avatar f tn After taking it for 3 yrs I realized that it was causing all my problems. In addition to symptoms similar to Churg Strauss, I also have enlarged lymph nodes and problems with my liver. I urge everyone to take the time to report their issues to the FDA so they realize that these side effects aren't as rare as they think. Here's the link: https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/medwatch/medwatch-online.htm. I have been off this drug for 3 wks and feel amazingly better.
645800 tn?1466860955 Losing thirty pounds and a strict no processed diet has helped. Also Zyrtec allergy pills everyday and Singulair. My insurance will not pay for Singulair at all. Rinsing my sinuses with saline and taking Mucinex. I take a lot of Mucinex this time of year. I used to take Benydrl and Chlortrimeton but they dried me out and impacted the mucus. I now hardly even need my Symbicort much less Albuteral. I used to have to sleep in a recliner. Eating was a bear because of choking.
Avatar n tn I am currently taking Allegra-D and Singulair for my allergies. My doctor had prescribed me to Pata-a-Day Eye Drops as well, but they became too expensive and weren't working very well, so i switch to an over the counter brand. My medicine is obviously not working very great either. Does anyone know of an effective treatment that will help me with this? Thanks.
Avatar m tn My daughter has taken singular since she was 3, she's now 19. I'm really worried about long term effects....she's in college now and after a year of sinus problems we've taken her off gluten, dairy, eggs and soy and she is doing much better. Just recently we had trouble getting a renewed rx down to her in school and she's been 'out' of singular for a week.
Avatar m tn he also suffers from celiac and that is well maneged. he is having an eeg/ colonoscopy and liver biopsy done to check some stuff and i was wondering if this is a good course to take .

Avatar m tn m suffering from light headaches (in forehead, but exact location differs a lot), post nasal drip (intensity differs) when I swallow and a very low pitched tinnitus. Although I'm not sure when this low tinnitus started and where it came from. I've Always had Pulsatile Tinnitus which is a bit higher pitched and clearly hums on the rhythm of my heart beat, but that one disappears when I lie down, turn my head to the side or push on my neck arteries.
