Singulair and copd

Common Questions and Answers about Singulair and copd

singulair

Avatar m tn I have moderate to advanced copd and take both advair and spriva. My hep doc didn't see any problem with it For me it came down to a choice of whether or not I wanted to stay of the oxygen tank.
Avatar n tn My mom who is 86 was diagnosed with COPD years and years ago. She took singulair and flovent inhaler and walked 3 miles a day. Two years ago she needed to use Duoneb via nebulizer. She was not short of breath at any time but had a few bouts with chronic bronchitis. Since moving to Florida a year ago, her husband died in Dec of 2007 and she is now short of breath. Her pulmonologist in FL took her off all of lung medications and within 3 days she was wheezing like a maniac.
Avatar f tn I was finally diagnosed with hypogammaglobulinemia, after years of pneumonia and sinus infections, in 1989. A few months later, I had to have my middle and lower lobes of my right lung removed, due to damage during those years of misdiagnosis; those lobes were dead. During the past year, my primary had recommended that I get a pulmonologist; I was recommended to one and have seen her twice, and will again in April.
Avatar m tn So I finished the steroids and antibiotics and was still having problems so I went back and they did another pft and this time my fev1 was at 84% and doctor told me that he wanted to prescribe more steroids and antibiotics this time I asked him if there was anything serious going on like copd and is said no because my lung capicity was at 94%. So I went back after 3 weeks and samething did a fev1 was at 87%.
Avatar m tn t have to much of a cough or mucus production and no fever. But I do have asthma and do smoke since I was 18 and am now 21. I asked him if he thought I had COPD or something like that and he said no because my lung capacity was at 96 percent he also stated that he didnt think I had anything serious. I am just worried that now it might be something serious now cause it wont go away... Is it possible that i just have a bad case of bronchitis that takes for ever to go away?
Avatar m tn My 9 year old daughter started having chest tightness and wheezing out of the blue on April 2nd. We have seen three different doctors and she is now on Advair, Singulair, and Albuteral. Two of the doctors did say her nose was red and inflamed, so she is also being treated for a sinus infection. I know allergies are horrible right now, but she had no symptoms of allergies prior to this (she is on Zyrtec).
Avatar m tn he began to have a facial tic, dilated pupils and hallucinations. i finally got the message and discontinued the singulair after researching the drug on the internet. after 3 weeks, he was like a different child. he was happier and healthier. his fears, anxiety and all the other side effects just disappeared. this drug can have devastating effects and be undetected by parents. children are unable to express the way the drug is making them feel.
920032 tn?1550680156 All those do is dry up the mucous and drainage - post nasal drip. I use it and love it. Singulair is a leukotriine modifier. That is one of the many chemicals involved in allergic reactions. As far as which is better, that would be hard to say. They have totally different purposes. Some people say that Singulair has little effect, while I won't miss a dose without having an attack.
Avatar f tn My Dr has recommended I try singualr along with Allegra and flonase. He had told me the SIngulair will not make me feel funny, cause anxiety or heart palps etc...yet I see there are a lot of negative side effects. Does anyone have any experience on this medicine or just how safe it is?
460830 tn?1347219306 Singulair is a leukotriene (loo-koe-TRY-een) inhibitor. Leukotrienes are chemicals your body releases when you breathe in an allergen (such as pollen). These chemicals cause swelling in your lungs and tightening of the muscles around your airways, which can result in asthma symptoms. Singulair is used to prevent asthma attacks in adults and children as young as 12 months old. It is also used to relieve runny nose and sneezing caused by allergies in adults and children as young as 6 months old.
Avatar m tn It causes asthma (Arizona Cypress, Mesquite and Palo Verde are the culprits.) Singulair has helped me very successfully in the past. However, I also take a very low dose blood pressure medication (Lisinopril 20mg). I do not have health insurance and have an alternative source for medications. Would it be advisable for me to purchase Singulair for 3 months to get me through those three months next year. This year was a bit difficult without it.
1154802 tn?1266485720 I also use Symbicort and was using my inhaler quite a bit...every night and 1-3 times during the day. I started taking Singulair a month ago and I don't use my inhaler nearly as much anymore. I've used it 3 times at night in the past month (2 of the times I forgot to take Singulair) and a few random times during the day/evening. Just a thought if you don't already take it and you have allergy issues. Take care.
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm a 45 year old man, in pretty good shape. Workout every other day 5'11" 185lbs. History of seasonal allergies and sinsus problems. No history of Asthma. In November 2015, I had a really bad allergic reaction to a coworkers perfume and had a very difficult time recovering from it. In February 2016, my doctor prescribed Advair 250/50, once a day and Singulair 10mg at bedtime.
Avatar f tn I was a very healthy active 70 year old then that’s when it all started. Now and then I would gag and it would come up. Now very short of breath and no energy at all. Also still coughing and voice going. Very hoarse and could hardly talk. A pulmonologist suggested to try acid reflux medication and musinex DM to see what happens. Acid reflux can cause so many more problems than we know especially combined with mucus. Within 4 days my coughing was 75% better and voice also.
Avatar f tn I looked up the Spriometry test on good old Med-Help website, and that told me it was used in diagnosing COPD. That sounds like a really scary problem. I had a lung X-ray last fall that didn't show any problems. So back in limbo with this problem too. Wouldn't you think some doctor would just jump up and say, "You have this!!) They all seem to want to just wait and see, and we'll look into it and do more testing later.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I've tried advair, symbicort, dulera and dulera seems to be the best along with singulair...
Avatar n tn I am currently taking Symbicort, Singulair, and Flonase, and most days am able to exercise and go about my daily business (full-time working mom). First, what does your doctor say? If you don't trust his/her opinion, get another one. Second, if you have atopic (allergic) asthma, allergies can change, so you might want to get an IgE blood test done to see if you're now sensitive to dust mites, etc. Drainage from sinus allergies and infection can cause asthmatic symptoms, too.
Avatar n tn 2 years ago he was put on Advair disk inhaler, Singulair, and Allegra D as his regimen. After about a month he started having a problem with his legs and groin itching. He took himself off the Singulair as that is what he decided was the problem. He has gotten by with just the Advair inhaler. In the past month he's really been struggling with breathing problems.
Avatar f tn Sinusitis, chronic bronchitis then COPD. All because doctors refused to treat the sinusitis. Because of this I can't afford the meds that are the staple of COPD treatment. But it did lead me into an alternative that works better and with less side effects. Benadryl works on the same principle as does ipratropium but I have never been told to use it. I can't tolerate Advair (causes angina) nor Albuterol (causes worse congestion and coughing).
1580703 tn?1651904887 I'm really curious does anyone else have this problem where they can't exhale? I start wheezing and feel resistance. and I'm exhausted and foggy all day long. is that COPD or something?
Avatar m tn hav been taking singulair for 3 years. Cramps in fingers, throat and leg occured common. Shoulders drooped. Standing and sitting posture gone really bad. Extreme tiredness 24X7. Always thirsty even after gulping bottles of water. Inactive physically and mentally. Become even more inferior in social gatherings and activities. Can't even meet minimum commitments and thus affects career and personal, family relationships. After dropping Everything became normal after 8 - 10 days.
Avatar f tn My 2 year old son acquired severe RSV at 6 weeks old. Ever since then he now has virally induced asthma. So he's been hospitalized a few times with bronchiolitis when he was 1 years old. The typical treatment has been 2ce a day pulmicort and 3xs a day to every 4 hours of albuterol. If that didn't work they would add predisone and sometimes zithromax. And those combos knocked it out. Well he now has 3 weeks of a rattling cough that just doesn't go away.
Avatar f tn Please quit smoking - when I got diagnosed with COPD a month ago I put down the cigarettes totally. Has your doctor ordered at CT scan of your lungs? You would get better information on the progression of your COPD with a CT scan. I got a copy of my CT scan - moderate emphasema with scattered ground-glass opticities (still not sure what the ground glass means).
370736 tn?1247242917 I have asthma and use inhaler (long acting and short acting) and Singulair. My pulmonary doc and OB said they're fine to use in pregnancy. I have been using my inhaler a lot more during pregnancy and I'm pretty sure it's because we are now breathing for 2 and our blood flow (which carries oxygen) is going for 2.
