Singulair and asthma

Common Questions and Answers about Singulair and asthma

singulair

370736 tn?1247242917 I have asthma and use inhaler (long acting and short acting) and Singulair. My pulmonary doc and OB said they're fine to use in pregnancy. I have been using my inhaler a lot more during pregnancy and I'm pretty sure it's because we are now breathing for 2 and our blood flow (which carries oxygen) is going for 2.
Avatar m tn I take Singulair for my asthma and it works wonders, but I am told, it's effect on allergies is very minimal. I have lots of allergies too but I have noticed, that over the counter meds like Alavert (or Walgreen's version) or ones similar, are better with allergies. My father says Singilair does help with his nasal polyps, but he also agrees it doesn't do anything for allergies.
1154802 tn?1266485720 I also use Symbicort and was using my inhaler quite a bit...every night and 1-3 times during the day. I started taking Singulair a month ago and I don't use my inhaler nearly as much anymore. I've used it 3 times at night in the past month (2 of the times I forgot to take Singulair) and a few random times during the day/evening. Just a thought if you don't already take it and you have allergy issues. Take care.
Avatar n tn 2 years ago he was put on Advair disk inhaler, Singulair, and Allegra D as his regimen. After about a month he started having a problem with his legs and groin itching. He took himself off the Singulair as that is what he decided was the problem. He has gotten by with just the Advair inhaler. In the past month he's really been struggling with breathing problems.
Avatar f tn My Dr has recommended I try singualr along with Allegra and flonase. He had told me the SIngulair will not make me feel funny, cause anxiety or heart palps etc...yet I see there are a lot of negative side effects. Does anyone have any experience on this medicine or just how safe it is?
920032 tn?1550680156 All those do is dry up the mucous and drainage - post nasal drip. I use it and love it. Singulair is a leukotriine modifier. That is one of the many chemicals involved in allergic reactions. As far as which is better, that would be hard to say. They have totally different purposes. Some people say that Singulair has little effect, while I won't miss a dose without having an attack.
Avatar f tn I find that just taking medications when needed is not really managing my asthma.
Avatar f tn i rarely ever have to take my inhaler. now that im pregnant it some how triggered my asthma and singulair isnt helping at all. i have taken my inhaler a lot and that stops my wheezing but is it safe for the baby for me to be taking the inhaler this much?
Avatar f tn My daughter takes singulair every night and still has asthma and allergies flare ups. Veramyst nasal spray works best for me and nasonex is ok. I don't know which antihistamine medicine works best, I've tried them all too and they all have a side effect,.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I was diagnosed with acute asthma last year and have been on symbicort/proventil for months, also singulair and took prednisone and methylprenisolone and I am still having breathing problems and chest tightness. taking some HC lately helped me breathe better and relax but still having breathing problems today. can you please help me??
Avatar m tn hav been taking singulair for 3 years. Cramps in fingers, throat and leg occured common. Shoulders drooped. Standing and sitting posture gone really bad. Extreme tiredness 24X7. Always thirsty even after gulping bottles of water. Inactive physically and mentally. Become even more inferior in social gatherings and activities. Can't even meet minimum commitments and thus affects career and personal, family relationships. After dropping Everything became normal after 8 - 10 days.
640719 tn?1277140030 hmmmm Singulair is also an allergy medication (or suppose to be) but it may not be enough for you to control hayfever. It affects a different part of the immune system than the typical antihistamines so some people it works better on, some it does not work as well. From what I got out of the research results if that it does help allergic symptoms but not a huge amount, that is why it is an asthma medication that can also help allergies.
Avatar n tn The reflux can cause airway irritation and definitely allergies and sinusitis (I have it too) wont help. I tried singulair - did absolutely nothing for me, BUT it has lactose in it which is one of my allergies so ..... Ventolin is good to keep around in case of flare ups, you may find you have more problems during a cold, high allergen exposure or if your reflux flares up.
Avatar n tn I took Montelukast (Singulair) for about one month and began having extreme nightmares and panic attacks. I stopped the montelukast immediately, and the nightmares stopped. But the panic attacks continue. I know others have had similar reactions, but I wonder if anyone has found out how to make the effects go away? I have been off the medication for over 3 months now.
Avatar f tn The Doctor gave me Albuterol, (which helped, but I was using it too frequently), they tried other inhalers which seemed to cause worse effects than the asthma. So my doc gave me Singulair which immediately helped me to breath. Since children were given this I felt it's probably ok to take. After only 3 days my feet started to tingle, my hands and then my legs.
Avatar f tn I have the same problem, pain in the lower chest it seems. I take symbicort and singulair. Does anyone know if this Zithromycin treatment works?
Avatar m tn hi dr my husband is using singulair 10mg and seretide250 andventolin 100mg and he takes 2 or 3 thank you ..
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm leaving in Sweden since 4 years, and my asthma get worse and worse each year, because, unfortunately for me, it's sensitive to the cold and the hygrometry. Here I take everyday a lot of medicines (SINGULAIR, SERETIDE, VENTOLINE, PREDNISOLONE, NASONEX, LORATADINE), especially Cortisone so I'm largely overweight (85 kg for 165 cm). I decided to diet 3 days ago, and i choose to follow the ATKINS program, which works really great with me.
Avatar n tn He also gets extreme chapped lips and I am wondering if the three coincide? When he takes singulair and his asthma is well-controlled it seems like his lips get better. We have also noticed that whenever he goes to school his lips look terrible when he comes home. Could he be allergic to something at school? Thank you.
Avatar f tn I am pregnant and have bad allergies and asthma. I tried to go the first couple of weeks without any meds... in spring.... couldn't do it! I was miserable. Benadryl is always ok, and my doctor said ok to taking Singulair (that is what I took prior to conceiving) I use my inhaler as needed (once a week maybe) What did you take for allergies and asthma prior to being pregnant? Good luck.
Avatar m tn he began to have a facial tic, dilated pupils and hallucinations. i finally got the message and discontinued the singulair after researching the drug on the internet. after 3 weeks, he was like a different child. he was happier and healthier. his fears, anxiety and all the other side effects just disappeared. this drug can have devastating effects and be undetected by parents. children are unable to express the way the drug is making them feel.
178698 tn?1228774338 I told this to the PA and she did end up giving me a script. So I am taking Singulair and Advair and occassionally Proair. I realize there are risks with all medicines during pregnancy , but asthma is very common. How dangerous are these meds during pregnancy. Without them I just can't breathe. I rarely take the Proair...that's rescue inhaler.
Avatar f tn s the singulair. My 7 year old son was put on it for his asthma and hay fever/ allergies. For the few months he was on it he ended up in hospital twice because his asthma got so bad (he'd never been hospitalised before). His behaviour changed dramatically both at home and school - he was constantly angry, reactive and very often explosive and he began uncharacteristic physical risk-taking. He experienced aches and pains in his arms and legs which he'd never had before.
Avatar f tn The past few months of sicknesses has been the worst. He was on prednisone 3 more times and still while on Singulair. Now he is on Flovent and Singulair hoping to keep his wheezing under control. But he remains with this wet cough. It's from the asthma. Has your son ever had wheezing? The Singulair is pretty safe although it can have sleeping side effects. We have to give to him at night right b-4 bed or it keeps him up. It has helped, but just not enough.
Avatar m tn t know what else to suggest, other then the key to managing asthma is to control any environmental triggers (allergies), and address any comorbid diseases that will aggravate the asthma, such as reflux disease, and sinusitis.
