Sinemet contraindications

Common Questions and Answers about Sinemet contraindications

janumet

Avatar n tn My father has had RLS for years and taking Sinemet to control it. Lately he has been acting differently almost like he has no control over his arms, mouth and legs. Can taking Sinemet for a long period of time cause Parkinson or similar disorders?
Avatar n tn 5-6 years ago, she started parkinson treatment as 3 per day 25/100 sinemet. Half year ago, her motion slows down, drooling a lot. Sinemet was increased to 3 per day 25/250. it really helped at first. 2 months later, dyskinesia occurred in tongue/jaw, drooling returned. Sinemet dosage then was decreased to 2 per day 25/250 (9am, 2pm), Requip 0.125 (9pm). Dyskinesia improved. 1.5 month ago, teeth grinding started day and night.
Avatar m tn I started taking Sinemet about 3 months ago and my blood sugar levels, insulin resistance are all over the map. In the morning I fight to get my BSs down and now, in the afternoon, I often have BS crashes into severe hypo territory. I've been to the emergency twice these past two weeks - a week ago Friday with hyper, ketones and this last Friday with a severe hypo with 5 units still active!!!
Avatar f tn I hated that because it worked so well, but side effects were intolerable. This as of April 28th. Was started on Sinemet. Was told this does not work as well as Requip, but was less likely to have same side effects. Said he could add darvocet if necesary. Also take ativan 1mg 3 x daily since the brain surgery, and 1-2 at night for help with sleep. Every other sleep aid made above symptoms worse. Did tapered Requip withdrawal while adding the sinemet.

Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed Sinemet (generic name: carbadopa/levo) 25/100mg each night, and I no longer have restless legs. I've been taking it for about 4 years now, and as far as I know, I don't have any negative side effects from it. (I know you said you prefer to balance yourself without pharmaceuticals, but if you don't find a way to do that, the Sinemet really works for me.) Sleep is SO important.
Avatar f tn I too have been on both of these meds and have had similar issues. Have you been on Sinemet yet? Requip and Mirapex are dopamine agonists, but Sinemet is a dopamine replacement and is best reserved for when the agonists no longer work. SinemetCR worked for me for a few years before the side effects outweighed the decreasing benefits. It's more complicated to optimize it's effectiveness, as one is best served to consider the timing, volume and content of their meals.
Avatar m tn I've been dealing with horrible spasticity since April and has gotten worse. I don't sleep much anymore at night and I work full time. My MRI shows no changes (minimal) and thoracic spine has no lesions. I've tried so many medications including sativex. I'm so tired and done with it all. I've also tried amitripyline, carbonmezipine, sinemet, quinine, nabilone and nothing. Please help....
Avatar n tn Why was it suggested? Who suggested it to you? This supplement seems like it's designed for bodybuilders. It's not regulated by the FDA, so a pharmacist may not have information on contraindications. Still, a call to your Copaxone pharmacy as well as your PCP are in order.
Avatar n tn t know if it is from the meds... as far as the meds. Sinemet and I just quit Nuepro... This discussion is related to hard bump under left armpit.
672788 tn?1238120672 Someone who would be able to answer questions about side effects and contraindications when taking multiple meds for multiple diagnoses?
Avatar m tn I’m not taking any medication from beginning of January (I suspended Sinemet and Amantadine, as recommended by my neurologist due no visible effects on my condition).
Avatar n tn What is the generic name, chemical name, classification and contraindications for Lyvoxil?
Avatar m tn I have been on courses of prendisone for a repetitive chest infection for the past 12 months and I am still using a steroid inhaler. I am also on sinemet 500 for my Parkinsons condition. What could be the cause of the sudden increase in heart size. I am 72 years young.
Avatar n tn I would look into the pharmaceutical company that makes Arimidex and see what contraindications are listed, including food and supplements. Might even be worth putting in an email to them.
1168317 tn?1330262837 he also said that he wants to trial me on a drug called SINEMET that might help my tremors and stiffness . he said its used for parkinsons but you DO NOT have that but i just thinks it might help with your symptoms. cos at the end of the day anything that helps your symptoms is better for you long term ??. so as you can imagine im very confused as to what the hell is going on !!!
Avatar f tn I would say if your doctor prescribed them because your blood was sticky he/she has weighed the benefits vs risk. Does the doctor know about your condition?
Avatar n tn Here are the contraindications for Malaria vaccine (yellow fever) from the CDC web site. It looks like HCV is OK but HIV is contraindicated.
Avatar n tn I would like to know if there are any contraindications with taking the herb red yeast rice with these prescription medications: Topromax 100 mg bid; Zoloft 200 mg @ hs; Xanax 0.5 mg @ hs PRN and oxycodone 5 mg 2 tabs bid for chronic pain. The red yeast rice will be for reducing my elevated Cholesterol as noted: (VLDL=18; TRIGLYCERIDES=92; LDL=155; HDL=59; TOTAL CHOLESTEROL=232). I was initially prescribed Crestor 5 mg by my PCP but due to some severe side affects I stopped taking it.
Avatar m tn You probably shouldn't take this with anything -- it isn't a very clean product. Contains some things in the inactive department that aren't good to take, such as talc and certain preservatives and sugar. It's basically hops, valerian and gentian, and you can get much purer versions of these if you stick to the better herb companies rather than television and internet marketers.
Avatar f tn You can look this up by googling saffron and its contraindications. You can also manage this stuff by buying a good herbal -- Prescription for Nutritional Healing and its companion Prescription for Herbal Healing are pretty good places to start. If you Google citalopram, it will also list contraindications, and some sites will have herbs as well. I don't know that saffron will be listed, though, as it's not been as commonly used as many others.
Avatar f tn I'd be concerned about the Sinemet because that eventually does cause tardive dyskinesia. I'm assuming what you have is a temporary movement disorder such as akathesia. There are a fair amount of side effect pills that won't worsen it. Inderal and Atenolol are particular good for tremors. Atenolol is the most tolerable of the two as I and other people have found.
