Avatar m tn My mother is 70 years old. In the past year there have been many significant changes in her health for the worst. I've gone through 2 family doctors and 2 neurologists and none can explain what is wrong with her. First I'd like to tell you what medication she is currently taking then I'll tell you what's wrong with her. A) Verapamil 240 mg B) clonozepam 1 mg C) simvastatin 20 mg D) levothiroxin 50 mcg E) Benicar 40 mg F) ramapril 10 mg.
Avatar f tn my doc took me off simvastatin and changed me to the lowest dose of crestor 5 mg.
Avatar m tn [0016] In order to avoid unforeseen side effects, the treatment was initiated at a 20 mg dose once daily for one week. The dose was then increased to 40 mg daily during the following week, and was again increased to 60 mg daily during the third week. During the fourth week, the dose was increased to 80 mg daily (two tablets of 40 mg each) and remained the same thereafter.
Avatar m tn I understand there is some evidence that drug has had some problem side effects in high dose usage, 40 mg is high dose. In fact my cardiologist had me cut from 20 mg to 10 mg about two months ago. In my case there was a concern about interactions of Samvastatin with the calcium channel blocker I take. I am going in tomorrow to get my cholesterol checked and I suspect it will go up due to the lower dose.

Avatar f tn The only negative I have read about Simvastatin in recent times is a study that showed high doses of simvastatin of 80 mg puts a patient at a greater risk for side effects including muscle damage. Most doctors have backed off of the 80 mg dosage as a result. I have been on 40 mg for years and it has worked great for me with no issues. Your husband needs to address this concern with his doctor. He needs to understand why there was a change in treatment.
Avatar n tn 40 mg is not high, it's the norm. Dosage of Simvastatin ca be as high as 80 mg. I am curious why you are on a statin with a total cholesterol of 160. What s your breakdown by LDL & HDL and do you have any risk factors of CAD currently? Plus, if your script was for 20 mg I would question the pharmacy about receiving 40 mg. Let us know when you can and we can speak more accurately about your dosage.
Avatar m tn I've been taking 80 mg simvastatin daily for the last 8 years, will tis be tha cause of an elevated GGT reading of over 350?
Avatar f tn The numbers vary depending on the study, what Ed is referring to was a recent study of high dose Simvastatin. Your were most likely on a much lower dosage, either 10 mg, 20 mg or 40 mg. 80 mg is normally not prescribed expect in those with heart disease. The main study for Simvastatin was the 4S trial which proved that the incidence rate for side effects at 40 mg of Simvastatin was 1 in 2,220 prescriptions. What is interesting is that the incidence rate in the placebo group was 1 in 2,223.
Avatar n tn My husband is only 38, he had a stroke last year he had a stent put in, now he is on plavix, atenolol, hydrochlorothiazide 25mg, last week his doc added niacin 500 mg, simvastatin 20, flexeril and tramadol, also his one aspirin each day, these are just so many meds, are they safe?
Avatar m tn As well as this I have received letter from my Doctor stating that my medication is changing from 40 mg Simvastatin to 10 mg Atorvastatin . .BP and cholesterol is under control. Issues I have in recent years is significant and worsening swelling of ankles and legs , as well as Erectile dysfunction . Is there any better drugs or treatment?
Avatar f tn TALWIN® Nx contains pentazocine hydrochloride, USP, equivalent to 50 mg base and is a member of the benzazocine series (also known as the benzomorphan series), and Naloxone hydrochloride, USP, equivalent to 0.5 mg base. TALWIN® Nx is an analgesic for oral administran Did this come fro the doctor?
Avatar m tn Only 8 patients on ZOCOR and 5 on placebo discontinued therapy due to elevated liver enzyme levels. Patients were started on 20 mg of ZOCOR, and one third had their dose raised to 40 mg. Your doctor should perform routine blood tests to check these enzymes before you start treatment with ZOCOR and periodically thereafter (for example, semiannually) for your first year of treatment or until one year after your last elevation in dose.
382218 tn?1341181487 To investigate whether simvastatin treatment (80 mg daily for 6 months) in patients with optic neuritis (ON) had a beneficial effect on visual outcome and on brain MRI. Methods: Sixty-four patients with acute ON were randomized to simvastatin treatment (n = 32) or placebo (n = 32) for 6 months. None of the patients had been on immunosuppressive therapy for 6 months prior to inclusion or treated with steroids from symptom onset.
Avatar m tn Simvastatin 20 mg(1T QD), Diazepam 10 mg(1T TID), Opana ER 40 mg(1T BID), Atenolol 100 mg(1T QD), Lunesta 3 mg(1T HS), Cymbalta 60 mg(1C BID), Fentora 800 mcg(1T BID PRN), Fentanyl Citrate 1200 mcg(One lollipop QID PRN). He was OK for a couple of months but yesterday he started acting weird again. Slurred speech(more than usual), lack of balance, forgetfulness, etc. How can I prevent future episodes from happening? Please I need help.
Avatar m tn s cheap, it works well enough that my doctor has allowed me to half my dose from 40 mg. / day down to 20 mg. / day, and my ALT/AST are better than they were before I started taking it. I've never heard of statins being a risk factor for allowing HCV relapse the way bolus doses of steroids may be.
Avatar f tn t recall where) about high dose Simvastatin. I was taking 20 mg now 10 mg for about a year.. that level still does what I need. 2) Beta blockers will lower HR, as you know. A resting HR of 50 shouldn't be a problem if you can function, stand up without getting dizzy.... for example. I'd consider stoping teh BB altogether, it is not doing anyting to cure you heart rhythm problem, and if you can live with the PVC, and get a more nomal and functional HR that could be your getter choice.
907968 tn?1292622204 Things came out great back then with the exception that my overall cholesterol number was low, 106 mg/dl from 130 mg/dl three months earlier. Monday (5-17-10) I see my PCP to go over these numbers as well as to discuss another newly diagnosed ear problem for the first time (superior canal dehiscence). Currently I take a 40mg Simvastatin every night. Assuming the cholesterol drops considerably again, would one option be to cut the current pills in half?
Avatar f tn so he did this to equal things out she said,,he put me on 20 mg simvastatin, and he does know Im on 2 medicaton for hypothyroid...i dont know how good my dr is..some speak high of him others not. So Im still confused since u said he would not do that . Thanks!
Avatar n tn Early December last year I was told that I have Hypercholesterolaemia and I would have to take Simvastatin 40 mg and quit smoking, I'm male and almost 52 yrs old.
Avatar m tn Diovan (Valsartan) is available in different doses (20 mg, 40 mg, etc.), so maybe you could take a lower dose on the day you'll be using Viagra. Or possibly just skip your usual dose that day, then resume the next. However, your Dr. may not agree. I think the best strategy is to ask your Dr. about using these 2 drugs at the same time. I would think if you just took a lower dose on the day you use Viagra might be acceptable...
