Clinically, high levels of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitory activity in plasma may be associated with an increased risk of musculoskeletal toxicity.

Avatar f tn Lisinipril is $4/month and $10 for 90 days at WalMart and many other pharmacies that have the $4 precription plan. You pay out of pocket. Simvastatin isn't on that list, but lovastatin and pravastatin are, if your doctor feels like you could try substituting one of those. Metoprolol isn't on the $4/month plan, but atenolol is. Again, maybe your doctor would be okay with changing you from metoprolol to atenolol. It's worth talking to the doc about.
Avatar f tn Can someone explain what, if any, evidence there for a switch from simvastatin to pravastatin? My husband's doctor said there is new evidence that simvastatin may be detrimental. Unfortunately, my husband did not quiz him further. He already has one stent in a narrow back artery but he has brought his cholesterol down considerably with the statins.

Avatar m tn s production of cytochrome P450, I am wondering about switching from simvastatin to pravastatin. That would allow me to try CBD, which appears to have minimal side-effects. I also wouldn't mind getting more than a few hours of sleep per night. That said, am I taking a risk by switching statins after three decades? I haven't been able to find any significant and update research that covers this situations. Thank you.

Avatar n tn It seems that the main problem was with fenofibrate and pravastatin. The level was pravastatin was greatly increased. But newer info with other statins shows no danger. Atorvastatin serum levels were actually decreased. Jack is very correct that any individual's response can vary a lot from the norm. > Any other natural suggestions on lowering [TG]? I've seen studies that low carb works best, but low Glycemic Index is not that far behind.
Avatar m tn Lisinopril and Carvedilol are blood pressure medications (lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor, Carvedilol is a beta blocker) and should not have any effect on your lipid profile. Both are important medications for those who have suffered a heart attack and undergone stenting. In addition to these medications, you should be on some sort of lipid medication (a "statin" such as atorvastatin, pravastatin, rosuvasatin, lovastatin, etc).
Avatar f tn Average incidence per 10 000 person-years for monotherapy with atorvastatin, pravastatin, or simvastatin was 0.44%" Here's the link; http://jama.ama-assn.org/content/292/21/2585.full It is extremely rare and is not associated with Zocor (Sivastatin) more than any other statin. Statins are being found to be much safer than previously thought. For instance, it has been determined that statins help increase liver function in individuals with liver disease.
Avatar n tn Here is an update as of Aug. 30. I went back to the Dr.'s for a plan-of-action for the high cholesterol numbers. We decided to try Simvastatin 20mg's and I also will be adding CoQ-10 with that (my suggestion). I will be having another reading done in December to see if it brings the numbers down. He also suggested I have a Coronary Calcium Score CT done. I had the Coronary Calcium test done the next day and received the findings today. The Total Agatston Score is 0.
Avatar f tn 9% with pravastatin (Pravachol), 14.9% with atorvastatin (Lipitor), and 18.2% with simvastatin (Zocor). And you have been on both atorvastatin (Lipitor) and pravastatin (Pravachol). Once you stopped taking statin, the pain and aches should resolve. However, for some patients, it may take up to 2 months for symptom resolution.
Avatar f tn t read anything that says the Zocor was responsible, just conjecture that it may be based on some Internet research. Zocor which is merely simvastatin is very safe and the incidence of side effects very low, but some will be affected differently than others.

Avatar m tn After recent cath my doctor changed my medication from vytorin ,have taken vytorin for 5 years, to lovastatin. I did ask for a cheaper medicine and lovastatin was what he came with. I have no problems or side effects . My question is lovastatin less effective then other of the same and if not why is it not used often. Avatar n tn Two recent trials have compared the clinical outcomes of intensive lipid lowering with atorvastatin 80 mg/day and standard lowering with pravastatin 40 mg/day. In the Pravastatin or Atorvastatin Evaluation and Infection Therapy (PROVE IT) trial, patients with acute coronary artery syndromes were enrolled, and pravastatin lowered the low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol to 2.46 mmol/l, whereas atorvastatin lowered it to 1.60 mmol/l.
446474 tn?1446347682 The FDA said that protease inhibitors taken with atorvastatin, rosuvastatin, simvastatin, or lovastatin increase the concentration of statins in the blood, which increases the risk for muscle injuries, including risk for rhabdomyolysis, which can cause permanent damage to the kidneys.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Lovastatin for 2 months. For the past couple of weeks I've been experiencing aching kidneys and I'm very tired. I had blood work done today for follow up of the drug and notified the doctor that I had this problem. My body temperature is 96.8, which I realize is a bit low, but perhaps normal? Could the achiness be due to the Lovastatin? I'm quite concerned about this and have had kidney problems as a child.
