Avatar f tn In most cases side effects can be managed with changes to dosage. Typically Simvastatin is prescribed at 40mg but can be prescribed as high as 80mg daily but that will increase the risk of side effects. I would communicate new side effects with your doctor but try to push past the first few weeks, side effects should go away but be careful to report new issues.

Avatar f tn This diet really does have research that shows you can reverse althroschlerosis but it is a strict diet in that you have to learn how to eat differently. The Forks over knives is a good streaming video or DVD if you have Netflix in your area or I'm not sure if Amazon Prime has it or not. Check out the website it is free and very informative. It also has a discussion board where you can ask many questions. There is a 10 day diet to try.
1423357 tn?1511085442 I recall another poster [caregiver] mentioning it as a triggering mechanism but the testing was on another statin, not Simvastatin. Simvastatin is not known to raise glucose levels. I followed that with statins not really being needed to lower cholesterol/triglycerides. One can accomplish this with simple lifestyle changes w/o buying into the marketing hype of 'pop this pill and your trouble goes down the drain' [sounds like the Rotor Rooter jingle].

Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol. I take metformin for the diabetes and simvastatin for the cholesterol. Recently, (just the last few days), my ears have steadily grown in "fullness". It happens mainly at night when I lay down to sleep. Most times I just fall asleep and wake up fine. But tonight, when the fullness came on, I started feeling dizzy while laying down and that started a litlle anxiety episode and here it is 3+ hours later.
Avatar n tn I was told to stop Simvastatin until everything clears up...then we try something else.
Avatar f tn Last week at the doctor's for a check up, my blood pressure was normal, heart rate 70 beats per minute, so he reduced my already-lowest-dose-for-a-pill BP medicine (lisinopril/hydrochlorthiazide ), with a recheck of my BP this week. So this week, slightly higher (normal range) blood pressure but a heart rate at 44 beats per minute!!

Avatar f tn How long have u been on simvastatin? The dose can be increased to 80mg if necessary. cpk is an emzyme found in both skeletal muscle and cardiac muscle. If it was normal then u do not have rhabdomylosis, which is the side effect of simvastatin which your doctor was looking for. He has done the correct test and the result was negative. Return to doctor for further investigation of these muscle aches.

Avatar n tn Does "Simvastatin" cause body itching??? I know that one of the side effect of Simvastatin is "itching". I began to use it one week before. But since that, I began to have body itching all over my body. I wonder if it is just a time coincidence, or it is a result of the negative effect of the Simvastatin??
Avatar n tn The doctor is switching me to simvastatin which reacted badly with my liver in the past. Aim is to save money. Is it safe to buy Atorvastatin online ?
Tbd Hi there and thanks for your question and joining the forum. Please always check in with your doctor on these matters so they can guide you. Unusual tiredness and weakness is listed as a 'less common' side effect of Simvastatin. https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/simvastatin-oral-route/side-effects/drg-20069006. For most people it doesn't cause significant issues, however. With all medications, weighing risks and benefits to taking the medication must be done.

Avatar m tn I started when a cardiologist put me on simvastatin and crestor for a cholesterol level of 225. She advised I would have to take them for the rest of my life. I thought that was kind of aggressive at the time. My level was brought down to 160. My internist who I have been seeing for three years questioned me about my family history. My dad had angina at 57 but had low cholesterol, while my mom had over 300 cholesterol but never developed any heart problems. Neither died from heart problems.
Avatar m tn As a matter of fact, she began taking the Simvastatin 20 mg a few years ago because her insurance no longer covered her usual cholesterol medication so the doctor had to switch her to Simvastatin. I remember when she first had to switch to Simvastatin, she complained about how her stomach hurt and how it gave her headaches. Since then she has just accepted it and taken the medication. Perhaps the Simvastatin is taking its toll on her.
