Common Questions and Answers about Simvastatin good or bad

zocor

Avatar f tn Your doctor would not put you on it for low HDL (good cholesterol) as it does not increase HDL, it lowers LDL or bad cholesterol. Do you know what your breakdown was? In any case, statins are very safe and proving to me more safe all the time. The risk of any side effect is anywhere between 2% and 5% which classifies this as very safe. Common side effects are muscle pain and sore joints. I would take it and just keep an eye out for anything that may be a side effect.
Avatar n tn Your HDL and TGLs look good, however your LDL or bad cholesterol is very high. The National Cholesterol Education Panel recommends an LDL of 130 or less in individuals with no additional risks for heart disease. You should discuss your numbers with your doctor as lifestyle changes alone may not be enough to lower your LDL by itself.
620048 tn?1358018235 It just made me feel generally much worse than usual, when I questioned my doctor and asked her about my risks she said my cholestrol was not that bad and the ratio was good. Also they have never proved that statins help women at all!! Great eh? more drugs for nothing as if we don't take enough.
Avatar f tn Yes it is a good idea to get off the statins and see if you feel better. I would seriously look into the book the starch solution by Dr. McDougall. Also his website is: http://www.drmcdougall.com/health/education/free-mcdougall-program/introduction/ Your bp is very high. It suggests your arteries are getting clogged. This diet really does have research that shows you can reverse althroschlerosis but it is a strict diet in that you have to learn how to eat differently.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Simvastatin 20mg for about 2 years, but recently my bad cholesterol has gotten very high to where it is elevated. Now, I admit to not being consistent lately with taking my medication; could this be the cause for my cholesterol to skyrocket?
Avatar f tn Can someone explain what, if any, evidence there for a switch from simvastatin to pravastatin? My husband's doctor said there is new evidence that simvastatin may be detrimental. Unfortunately, my husband did not quiz him further. He already has one stent in a narrow back artery but he has brought his cholesterol down considerably with the statins.
Avatar m tn If so, then Alinia, perhaps after years of use, might give some people a chance to get rid of the HBV virus and attain immunity. Or do I have this wrong?
Avatar m tn curious if stef2011 or studyforhope or StephenCastlecrag know whether simvastatin by itself can reduce viral load? I've read about the effects in conjunction with NUCS but I'm curious if sim is effective alone.
Avatar n tn I have been taking simvastatin 10 mg per day for 5 years. On a recent blood test my potassium level was above normal. I stopped taking simvastatin. After 3 months I took another blood test and now my cholesterol level has risen to 6.5. What shall I do. I am seeing my Doctor next week.
Avatar m tn I recently got my blood tests back and am not sure if I have "Heart Disease" in the classical meaning of the phrase or just a bad reading or "Bad Numbers" which need to be addressed. Can someone please clarify this for me? First off, I'm a recently turned 60 year old man who used to be an athletic type during my younger years and over the years let it all go down the drain it seems.
