Avatar f tn In most cases side effects can be managed with changes to dosage. Typically Simvastatin is prescribed at 40mg but can be prescribed as high as 80mg daily but that will increase the risk of side effects. I would communicate new side effects with your doctor but try to push past the first few weeks, side effects should go away but be careful to report new issues.
Avatar f tn Can someone explain what, if any, evidence there for a switch from simvastatin to pravastatin? My husband's doctor said there is new evidence that simvastatin may be detrimental. Unfortunately, my husband did not quiz him further. He already has one stent in a narrow back artery but he has brought his cholesterol down considerably with the statins.

Avatar m tn I am 67 years old and have been taking simvastatin for 10 years. I started when a cardiologist put me on simvastatin and crestor for a cholesterol level of 225. She advised I would have to take them for the rest of my life. I thought that was kind of aggressive at the time. My level was brought down to 160. My internist who I have been seeing for three years questioned me about my family history.
Avatar m tn what is the recommended dosage for simvastatin and the frequency (i mean how many times in a day) and whether this should be taken before food or after food..
Avatar n tn I have been taking simvastatin 10 mg per day for 5 years. On a recent blood test my potassium level was above normal. I stopped taking simvastatin. After 3 months I took another blood test and now my cholesterol level has risen to 6.5. What shall I do. I am seeing my Doctor next week.
Avatar n tn 40 mg is not high, it's the norm. Dosage of Simvastatin ca be as high as 80 mg. I am curious why you are on a statin with a total cholesterol of 160. What s your breakdown by LDL & HDL and do you have any risk factors of CAD currently? Plus, if your script was for 20 mg I would question the pharmacy about receiving 40 mg. Let us know when you can and we can speak more accurately about your dosage.
Avatar m tn x/full very interesting study which confirms why simvastatin, lowering cholesterol drug and actos (diabetes 2 drug), have anti hbv activity lowering hbvdna, cancer risk, all this without problems of resistance and acting on all hbv mutants conclusions: The discovery of the mechanisms by which HBV is controlled by the hepatic metabolic milieu may broaden our understanding of the unique regulation of HBV expression and may also explain the mechanisms by which HBV induces liver pathologies.
Avatar n tn Fisrt I'd like to question why your doctor has you on 150mg a day of simvastatin when 80mg is the maximum recommended dose. If it was me, I'd be asking! If you've developed a cough that is not associated with an upper respiratory infection, a cold or seasonal allergies, you should have it evaluated by your doctor, especially if you're experiencing shooting pains in your head when you cough. I'm not saying you should be "worried" per se, just smart.
Avatar f tn The numbers vary depending on the study, what Ed is referring to was a recent study of high dose Simvastatin. Your were most likely on a much lower dosage, either 10 mg, 20 mg or 40 mg. 80 mg is normally not prescribed expect in those with heart disease. The main study for Simvastatin was the 4S trial which proved that the incidence rate for side effects at 40 mg of Simvastatin was 1 in 2,220 prescriptions. What is interesting is that the incidence rate in the placebo group was 1 in 2,223.
Avatar m tn I am trying to get something in writing to show that this decision does not follow within the accepted guidelines for treatment of his form of Hepititis. I believe the Dr. in Az. may have made this decision not realizing he did not have a 12 week blood sample. My son is 43 years old and in otherwise good health. He has not had any symptoms of Hep C nor has he had any side effects from the treatments.
907968 tn?1292622204 My cardiologist changed me over from 40MG of Simvastatin to the same dosage of Crestor and I have been taking it for about a year now. So far, no problems and my LDL level has gone down even further since taking the Crestor.
Avatar f tn my husband has taken rimopril and simvastatin for over ten years, i met and marryed him 3 years ago our sex life was like everyone was well above average but a year later or less it dropped to maybe once week or once fortnight and as time has gone on its now worse all the time he blames the drugs he is on or iv had a heart attack is he correct !!!!!!
976897 tn?1379167602 How many people are on the same dosage of beta blockers/ace inhibitors/statins ? The brands they chose for the new pill are different from any that I am currently taking, so goodness knows what effect it would have. Maybe there will be thousands of different combinations of the pill, with different dosages for each medication, but I doubt it. How else could they ensure people get what they require.
280485 tn?1249013844 I have read numerous posts stating what the RAI dosage was for various people and their different cancers. I had a VERY small nodule that was cancersous, no mestatis and received 98mCi. Others who have seemed to have had way more serious sounding cancers have gotten lower doses in some cases. To put this in perspective, Hopeful436 is a friend, and her cancer was similar to mine. Her nodules were even a bit larger than mine, and yet she got 50mCi of Radiation...?
Avatar n tn with the full 180 mcg dosage. My first 6 months were manageable side effects-wise. However, last 4 months were tough on me. Level of side effects is progressively increasing, causing me to be wiped out physically and mentally most of the time now. Not sure how long I can continue to this stuff. I had thought about lowering the dosage but have some concerns about efficacy. I continue to pray.
Avatar m tn Advicor (lovastatin/niacin extended-release), Simcor (simvastatin/niacin extended-release), and Vytorin (simvastatin/ezetimibe).
Avatar m tn curious if stef2011 or studyforhope or StephenCastlecrag know whether simvastatin by itself can reduce viral load? I've read about the effects in conjunction with NUCS but I'm curious if sim is effective alone.
