Common Questions and Answers about Simvastatin crestor

zocor

907968 tn?1292622204 I'm on a 30 day trial offer from Crestor (20mg) to replace my Simvastatin (20mg). I'm sure I know the answer to this question but hearing other opinions would be welcomed... As I understand it, Crestor is a bit stronger than Simvastatn, or should I say, You can take a smaller dose of Crestor to equal Simvatstatin. Other than the equivalent dose change is there any other differences - side effects I should be looking for?
Avatar f tn The free clinic I go has switched me from Crestor to Lipitor even though my LDL is very high. It's a thorn in my side and won't budge even with Crestor. The cardiologist was even talking about adding another medicine to fight it. When I mentioned this to the clinic they told me every couple of years they switch drugs. So basically they can't afford to care about exceptions.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Simvastatin 20mg for about 2 years, but recently my bad cholesterol has gotten very high to where it is elevated. Now, I admit to not being consistent lately with taking my medication; could this be the cause for my cholesterol to skyrocket?
Avatar m tn Also, Crestor is a very powerful statin, you should ask about a different choice such as Simvastatin at a lower dose if wants to continue with a statin. Simvastatin seems to be tolerated more easily and has less chance of side effects.
Avatar f tn my doc took me off simvastatin and changed me to the lowest dose of crestor 5 mg.
Avatar f tn I have been taking simvastatin for three weeks since having a Tia but have also had a flu like cold for ten days , I am still having aching flu like pains which I would have thought would have passed by now . I don't know if this is a side effect of the drug I'm taking 40mg a day but feel really achy will this pass .
Avatar m tn Advicor (lovastatin/niacin extended-release), Simcor (simvastatin/niacin extended-release), and Vytorin (simvastatin/ezetimibe).
Avatar n tn was on liptor 20 but not liking it so two weeks ago started simvastatin 30 to see if more tolerable b/c my research said it had the lowest rate of side effects of the potent statins. numbers were normal on 20 lipitor but are now alt 68 ast 54.
Avatar n tn Hi there. I was on Simvastatin for about 7 months and I got the impression that I was palpitating more than before taking the statin, so I stopped it. The pvc's lessened as soon as I stopped, but overtime (months) I started to go again through the up and down cycle of less and then more pvc's, so now I can't determine whether or not the statin contributed to more activity.
Avatar m tn I started when a cardiologist put me on simvastatin and crestor for a cholesterol level of 225. She advised I would have to take them for the rest of my life. I thought that was kind of aggressive at the time. My level was brought down to 160. My internist who I have been seeing for three years questioned me about my family history. My dad had angina at 57 but had low cholesterol, while my mom had over 300 cholesterol but never developed any heart problems. Neither died from heart problems.
Avatar n tn Generally, if you experience muscle weakness as a side effect of Lipitor (atorvastatin), other statins will produce similar effects, so that eliminates the use of Zocor (simvastatin), Crestor (rosuvastatin) etc. After statin therapy fails or is not tolerated, it is normal to try ezetimibe (Zetia), which you said did not work. The use of colesevelam (WelChol) is not high, and is often the 'last ditch effort' to lower cholesterol.
Avatar n tn My understanding is that the statins with the greatest LDL reducing effect are Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol, in that order. I don’t mention Leschol and Mevacor since they appear to be rarely used since recently due to the aforementioned being more powerful. Do we have any available solid data on the effects of the various individual statins other than LDL reduction? For example, do we know which ones raise HDL the most? What about effects on particle size or Lp(a), etc.
329165 tn?1515471990 I'm on Crestor now and have been for about a year. I'd like to switch to Simvastatin. Do you see any problems? I have a strong heart for a 64 year old but I am a diabetic.
Avatar f tn told me that my total cholesterol was 303!!! So they instantly prescribed me 20mg of Simvastatin. With in a matter of 7-10 days I was nearly unable to run my legs became so heavy. Lead Legs! I lost all desire to run, slept all the time and was worthless at work - because I was constantly tired. I even had co-workers say to me "what happened to you at Houston - ever since you got back your not the same." I felt miserable.
Avatar m tn x/full very interesting study which confirms why simvastatin, lowering cholesterol drug and actos (diabetes 2 drug), have anti hbv activity lowering hbvdna, cancer risk, all this without problems of resistance and acting on all hbv mutants conclusions: The discovery of the mechanisms by which HBV is controlled by the hepatic metabolic milieu may broaden our understanding of the unique regulation of HBV expression and may also explain the mechanisms by which HBV induces liver pathologies.
Avatar f tn Research shows that 61 out of every 1000 patients on 80mg of simvastatin develop muscle problems. I do believe the half life for Simvastatin is quite short, 5 hours or less. If you take 80mg, then 5hours later only 40mg will remain. Another 5 hours only 20mg. So after 24 hours there will only be around 2-3mg in your body which is top up time.
Avatar m tn I started when a cardiologist put me on simvastatin and crestor for cholesterol level of 225. My level was brought down to 160. I had side effects and thought that the cholesterol meds might be to aggressive. My internist also questioned the cholesterol medication. He told me that cholesterol causes calcification of your arteries but that is not true with many individuals.
315318 tn?1353251800 Hi, I was recently prescribed fenofibrate, 54 mg by my cardiologist because a new test called NMR showed my lipid particles to be very high in size. I also take Crestor ( a statin), 20 mg. In addition,to these, I take insulin for diabetes, synthyroid for hypothyroidism, metaprolol and lisinopril for blood pressure, Aspirin ( 320 mg) , and Efient ( 10 mg) as blood thinners to stop any clotting in a new stent on my LAD.
Avatar f tn As mycholesterol values were to high, my doctor prescribed me Crestor (Rosuvastatin), cholesterol medication. Is there any problem taking this medication without damaging liver or hepatitis values? Thank you !
10996785 tn?1432812977 Like you, I pulled myself off of Lipitor (atorvastatin) because of muscle and joint weakness/pain and other recorded side effect. I had only taken it for about five weeks and the discomfort remains three weeks later. I had the same reaction to simvastatin, which I am told is the worst of the bunch. I'm waiting a few months and then I will try something with a less violent track record.
1962464 tn?1344606673 Seroquel, cyclobenziprine, Celebrex, Lamotrigine, Prozac, Diclofenic, Simvastatin, and Levothyroxin. My doctor does a complete blood work up every three months and doesn't seem concerned about the combination of meds that I am taking. I know some of these are also prescribed for fybromyalgia pain. If I hurt this much while taking all these medication I hate to think about how I would feel without them.
Avatar n tn Could my shortness of breath. weakness and aching be cause by Crestor? I have seen a pulmonary doctor and a cardiologist. They say my heart and lungs are fine.
