simvastatin and weight loss

Have kept up the same way of eating and have maintained my weight loss with little effor. Might want to try it.

Advicor (lovastatin/niacin extended-release), Simcor (simvastatin/niacin extended-release), and Vytorin (simvastatin/ezetimibe).

He did weight 285 but is down to 224 because of a thyroid problem. Due to the weight loss his cholestoral is less than 100. Could he quit taking the cholestoral medicine? His medical doctor says he hates to take him off of it because of the previous heart problems.

Well, thanks! I have to tell you, if you follow that plan, it really doesn't "hurt" that mich. Now, the first couple of days were tough and painful even. My stomach hurt from hunger, and I pee'd up a storm as I body was wringing out every carb it could. I had rubber legs, but instead of feeding my body what it craved, I ate walnuts, and almonds, and it passed. Then, the hunger pangs diminished, and no longer that viscious hunger that I was experiencing.

She is finding that her hair (which has always been very thick and healthy) is thinning dramatically. She is also taking Simvastatin and an anti-depressant, Citalopram, and an amphetamine for ADHD. Is hair loss a normal side effect of these meds, and, if so, what can be done to combat the problem?

Simvastatin has been wdely used by members on this forum including myself. Took it for a few months but not currently taking it at the moment. So yes,Simvastatin, and overall a very healthy diet!!!!

I would recommend asking your Dr or pharmacist if these are possible side effects. There could be another reason why you're gaining weight and your BP is up. You should'nt have any side effects from stopping this med but, your Dr put you on it for a reason. I take it you had high cholesterol numbers? See your Dr before you quit taking it. That's just my suggestion.

Twelve years ago when I had my first heart attack and started to walk as an aerobic exercise I would experience very strong calf pain, but continued exercise and a stronger statin coupled with a big weight loss eliminated the problem. Your symptoms, I think should merit additional tests. Keep us informed.

was on lipitor for 5 months and switched two weeks ago to simvastatin in hopes of less side effects. just got some blood work done and the liver enzymes are elevated about one and a half times normal. does anyone know if its normal to see a spike in liver enzymes after switching statins or does this mean my body is rejecting the new statin?

I really need to lose some weight and my Dr is not into fad diets my? is,Do I start the meds and do the diet or do I just do the diet and see what my stats are? All these meds have scary side effects and say no drinking alcohol but the HCG drops have 20%.alcohol. If I lose the weight will my stats change?

I quit taking the simvastatin last tuesday, and by friday I looked perfectly normal with no steroid cream...... Thanks again for all the help!

I use simvastatin to lower the cholesterol and lisinopril to lower the bp. The lisinopril works w/o the simvastatin and v.v.

Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker while lisnopril is an angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE) inhibitor. Both groups of drugs and simvastatin are unlikely to cause erectile dysfunction. However yes, all three of them can cause swelling of ankles. Talk to your doctor. You can change your medications. Among antihypertensives you need to avoid thiazides , beta blockers and alpha blockers. High blood pressure and reduced blood supply to penis can also cause erectile dysfunction.

I have been on 20 mg of simvastatin and 3000 mg niaspan now my ck levels have went from 60 to 295 i could hardly walk .will my levels come down if i lower dose. and reverse damage. i have 12 stents .the rest of my blood work is fine.

Am experiencing shortness of breath, lightheadedness, arrythmias, and feeling very tired at times I have memory loss and confusion. I am on flecanide and metoporol. I had flu in October and also put on simvastatin symptoms of junctional rhythm started in same time frame. Do I have cardiomyopathy? And how serious is all this. Ep showed great arteries and I've stopped simvastatin as I thought this might be the problem with junctional rhythm.

On a recent blood test my potassium level was above normal. I stopped taking simvastatin. After 3 months I took another blood test and now my cholesterol level has risen to 6.5. What shall I do. I am seeing my Doctor next week.
