Simvastatin and triglycerides

Common Questions and Answers about Simvastatin and triglycerides

zocor

Avatar n tn total cholesterol = 487, and triglycerides were over 2000, about 10 years ago. I have a genetic condition that causes this. So, in spite of the risk of combining statins and fenofibrates, my GP placed me on both medicines, after consulting with his cardio doc friend. I can't remember how long I was on these medications, but I know that I had to stop statins in general, because my body just will not tolerate them. I continued to take Tricor for quite some time.
Avatar f tn (I was on HCTZ, however, it caused me to have a skin reaction from the sun so my doctor switched to Spironolactone), Simvastatin 10 mg. and Synthroid 50 mcg. My latest blood test showed my cholesterol has gone up to 209, LDL-C 101, HDL-C 72,Triglycerides 115. My doctor also did a another test that showed my LDL-P to be 1206, My doctor wants to add 150 mg Lipofen to my regimen.
Avatar f tn (I was on HCTZ, however, it caused me to have a skin reaction from the sun so my doctor switched me to Spironolactone), Simvastatin 10 mg. and Synthroid 50 mcg. Grandmother had angina; sister has CAD partly due to poor lifestyle (very high triglycerides, poor diet, lack of exercise). My doctor gave me a new sophisticated blood test and based on those results he wants to add 150 mg Lipofen to my regimen.
Avatar f tn Patients were put on a cholesterol-lowering diet and given one of the medications. After 18 weeks, patients given simvastatin had significantly lower total cholesterol, lower LDL, lower triglycerides, and higher HDL cholesterol levels than those who took pravastatin. The study found that the patients on simvastatin achieved the target LDL level of less than 130, more than those on pravastatin (65 percent on simvastatin versus 35 percent on pravastatin).
907968 tn?1292622204 I wish I had wrote the numbers down while I was there today, I'll get them in a couple of days. Any case, my Cholesterol numbers while in the hospital a year ago for the heart attack (before or after the bypass is unknown at this time) were nearly perfect. When I get those numbers I'll report with in this thread. Numbers for the most recent blood tests vs February's numbers...
Avatar m tn My readings before I started the simvastatin, were ( 140 total ) HDL 33 LDL 79 and Triglycerides 139 . What has changed is that my HDL has gone down to 24 from 33 LDL has gone down to 65. So basically Everything has gone down, what has him worried is the HDL has gone down. My triglycerides had the most difference, but that I credit to diet change. I have almost completely eliminated "processed sugar" and white flour products. I get plenty of exercise.
612876 tn?1355514495 While I am not diabetic, I seem to have a familial combined hyperlipidemia and very high triglycerides. I am developing neuropathy in my feet and am seeing someone about this in a few weeks. I just think so much is intertwined. Especially since I recently found out my free T3 is low. Low thyroid also promotes high cholesterol... so getting as much in order as I can will go a long ways I think. Anyway thanks for posting!
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lipitor (20mg) and my wife has been taking Simvastatin. Prior to being put on medication, my cholesterol had been running about 205 for a long time and my wife's had been around 160. What is the difference betwen the two? My medication is considerably higher than mine? Can you explain why? My blood sugar was running abot 137 so my Doctor also put me on Actoplus as well. My Lipitor is about $100 and my wife's Simvastatin is about $6 (same quantity of tables-30).
Avatar n tn i take fish oil , flaxseed and medamusal.
Avatar m tn My parents have slightly high cholesterol levels, however they are in their 60’s and they have never had any heart problems and are not diabetic. I had one grandma who was diabetic and had angina and she died from a heart in her late 60’s. Everyone else in my family appears to be healthy and I have never had any health complications. Approximately a year ago I was going through a particularly stressful time in my life and I started having panic attacks for the first time out of nowhere.
Avatar n tn There are all kinds of statins out there, as ed said, you have to find out which one you tolerate. I have been on them for many years as I was unable to lower my LDL with diet and exercise alone. They have worked well and I have had no side effects, but everyone is different. Most of these can be replaced by the generic Simvastatin. It's cheap and is the basis of many of the meds out there.
Avatar m tn this is an artcle showing hbsag secretion inibition by lovastatin, it was the natural type not the synth like lovastatin in red yeast rice it is an oold article and there has been no followup studies, today we have also the liposomes studies and simvastatin studies but again in vitro only.the only way to know how it works in vivo is try red yest rice or liposomes and measure hbsag because no drug makers are interested in making trials on this http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?
Avatar f tn “If you are unaware that a patient is on simvastatin and you give either boceprevir or telaprevir, the simvastatin level in the blood can go high and patients can develop muscle breakdown,” said Dr. Jensen. http://www.idse.net//ViewArticle.aspx?
730053 tn?1234534651 Hospital ran lipid panel showing LDL 68, Triglycerides 400, HDL 28, nuclear treadmill stress test that achieved hr of 150, BP held at 140/75 and revealed an ejection fraction of 67, small thrombosis below right artery, bigeminal and trigeminal PVCs and occasional PACs during recovery, none occurred during the test itself. Cardiac cath performed the next day revealed a re-narrowing of right artery. Above the narrowed section, a tear was discovered (presumed site of plaque rupture).
Avatar m tn You are on one of the more powerful statins so you can ask your doctor about Vytorin which is simple Simvastatin and Zetia which works both in the liver and in the digestive tract. Simvastatin is usually better tolerated than Lipitor. It would help to know what your LDL and HDL levels are as well, we could possibly give you a better answer.
612551 tn?1450022175 As usual I asked for the blood test result details The total Cholesterol is 166 and while the Triglycerides are on the high acceptable side my HDL is very good and the ratio of it to LDL and Total Cholesterol are "off scale" on the good side. Yet, another report I got as I was scheduled for a routine echocardiogram shows: Mixed Hyperlipidema, which I in general understand to point to a cholesterol problem...not at all sure what the "mixed" is supposed to mean.
Avatar n tn I quit taking the simvastatin last tuesday, and by friday I looked perfectly normal with no steroid cream...... Thanks again for all the help!
Avatar m tn Later when i asked him about the simvastatin possibly being the root of my problems, he agreed that was probably the problem and wanted to put me on another one but i refused. Now that i've done some research on low vitamin D, it sounds as though that very well could have been my problem. I'm currently taken a 2000iu tablet twice a day. Is that enough to get it up to the 50-60 recommended level? The last bloodwork i had it still had not gotten to that level.
Avatar m tn I use simvastatin to lower the cholesterol and lisinopril to lower the bp. The lisinopril works w/o the simvastatin and v.v.
Avatar m tn Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker while lisnopril is an angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE) inhibitor. Both groups of drugs and simvastatin are unlikely to cause erectile dysfunction. However yes, all three of them can cause swelling of ankles. Talk to your doctor. You can change your medications. Among antihypertensives you need to avoid thiazides , beta blockers and alpha blockers. High blood pressure and reduced blood supply to penis can also cause erectile dysfunction.
Avatar n tn I have been on 20 mg of simvastatin and 3000 mg niaspan now my ck levels have went from 60 to 295 i could hardly walk .will my levels come down if i lower dose. and reverse damage. i have 12 stents .the rest of my blood work is fine.
Avatar f tn My total cholesterol is 225! Says it should be less than 180! AGH! The triglycerides and HDL (good cholesterol) are good. Umm, could this be causing my palpitations? Or what? I'm so surprised at these numbers - I am a vegetarian and am only 34. I exercise a lot and eat a lot of soy. One thing I'm wondering is...the lady that made the appt for me told me to not eat anything after midnight the night before I had my blood taken for these tests.
Avatar m tn said that was ok as long as it did not exceed 4 grams per day-similar to Lovazo-walk and walk and walk, which I did the last time and my lipid results improved dramatically going from about 220 total cholesterol to 167 and my triglycerides dropping from a whopping over 700 to 180 and my HDL going from 27 to 34-some improvement anyway-all in 6 weeks. Then I will tell him I didn’t take the Niaspan (which I believe he suspects I will not take anyway), and after the blood tests see where I am.
