Avatar n tn Hi We may be able to link the dermatitis to the medication. You have noted that the rash seems to appear only during intake of the medication and disappears when the medication has been ceased. At this point, dermatitis may not be a common side effect of simvastatin but it is possible. This may be a drug induced reaction. You may need to have your medications modified. Inform your physician prescriber about this so that an alternative prescription may be given. Is there any penile discharge?
Avatar n tn http://www.medicinenet.com/simvastatin/article.htm This could be an allergic reaction to the drug. It will stop if the drug is withdrawn. You need to inform your doctor about this development. He might want to substitute it with another. It cannot be a time coincidence unless you had the itching prior to starting the drug. You could apply an anti-itch lotion or cold compresses on the skin to soothe the areas.
Avatar f tn Patients were put on a cholesterol-lowering diet and given one of the medications. After 18 weeks, patients given simvastatin had significantly lower total cholesterol, lower LDL, lower triglycerides, and higher HDL cholesterol levels than those who took pravastatin. The study found that the patients on simvastatin achieved the target LDL level of less than 130, more than those on pravastatin (65 percent on simvastatin versus 35 percent on pravastatin).
Avatar m tn I went to the Doctor and was given a perscription for Mometasone Furoate Cream. I used it and the rash continued to spread. I now have it on my arms, legs, back and butt. I have tried Caladryl Clear and it relieves the itch, but the pimples remain. The have been taking the following medications: Simvastatin 40mg, Lisinopril 5mg, Asprin 81mg, One a day Vitamin, Recent changes to my medications are Acarbose 25mg, and Zyrtec 10mg. Could any of these medications be causing the rash???

Avatar f tn I take Simvastatin with no side effects, and have for several years, and so does my husband, also no problems. It's done an excellent job of lowering both our cholesterols.

Avatar n tn In 10/2007, I saw a dermatologist and showed him my face and wrist area and a few spots on my thigh. No biopsies or skin scraping was done. He gave me 10 days of ketoconazole 200mg and my face cleared within 3 days. I was given fluticasone propionate .05% cream for the area on my thigh and wrist. This cream was another corticosteroid which I was wanting to get off of. Perhaps I should have been on a cream fungi maint after the oral?
Avatar f tn Then I think it could be a peripheral circulation deficiency (likely heart related), I'd bring it to your doctor's attention next visit. Massaging your feet (with or without oil/skincare lotion) might help somewhat.

Avatar m tn Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker while lisnopril is an angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE) inhibitor. Both groups of drugs and simvastatin are unlikely to cause erectile dysfunction. However yes, all three of them can cause swelling of ankles. Talk to your doctor. You can change your medications. Among antihypertensives you need to avoid thiazides , beta blockers and alpha blockers. High blood pressure and reduced blood supply to penis can also cause erectile dysfunction.

808920 tn?1268057768 I have had a echocardiogram w/bubble test, stress test, several ultrasounds with results indicating that a heart cath is not necessary. My questions are 1. Has anyone experienced skin sensitivity around the left side area and some aching in the ribs? 2. Shoulder blade popping, muscle cramping on left side of back and joint discomfort? 3. Does anyone know what a normal recovery time is for myocarditis and is the side pain and shoulder popping/muscle cramping any side effects of this illness?
Avatar n tn On a recent blood test my potassium level was above normal. I stopped taking simvastatin. After 3 months I took another blood test and now my cholesterol level has risen to 6.5. What shall I do. I am seeing my Doctor next week.
Avatar f tn Problem is I think if you can't take one statin you may not be able to take any. But there are other drugs you can try like Niaspan (slow release niacin) and vitorin and so forth. I don't know if you are into changing your diet but if you get a chance watch the video Forks over Knives. It is how a plant based diet can reverse althroschlerosis. My husband's cholesterol was 260, blood pressure was 140/90 and weight 260. He is 6' 2" though.

Avatar f tn My endocrinologist prescribed me Atorvastatin 40mg in place of the simvastatin but it has since given my major chest pain and muscle weakness in my fingers and legs; so I was advised by the pharmacist to stop that and I have only taken the new statin twice and tonight was the second time taking it. Is simvastatin something that can be eased up to a higher dose to do the exact same thing atorvastatin does for the bad cholesterol?
Avatar m tn 4 [0027] These cases involve the administration of simvastatin to patients with known Hepatitis B and C, and other causes of liver cirrhosis, mainly alcoholic. All of these patients had normal alphafetoprotein levels and were given simvastatin on a daily basis since their first diagnosis of their liver disease. None of these patients showed an elevation of alphafetoprotein during an observation period.
Avatar f tn I went thru this painful bleeding rash on my arms and legs for years..ugh its just awful. Went to every skin Dr and they were stumped..well I just had thyroid surgery to remmove toxic nodule and half my thyroid...guess what? The rash is finally clearing up all by it self now! Yaaaaay! Tell you Dr about it and insist you get your thyroid treated..myself I recomend the surgery over the radiation. A litter more painful but much safer esp for those of us with thyroid rash!
Avatar n tn I would definitely pay attention to any rash. I have been on synthyroid for years and because of a comment I made to my doctor about feeling low on energy, we switch my regular medication routine to include cytomel. What a mistake - Within 3 days I noticed a rash, by day five it was causing sever grief in several areas of my body - the wrists, thighs and around my vagina. I have been miserable. Called doctor and 2 days ago took myself off cytomel.
Avatar m tn (cirrhosis) It is critical that your doctor discovers the cause and the medication is adjusted if it is the simvastatin. Here are some other things that may cause the liver to be irritated and the GGT to be elevated.
