Avatar n tn I have been on 20 mg of simvastatin and 3000 mg niaspan now my ck levels have went from 60 to 295 i could hardly walk .will my levels come down if i lower dose. and reverse damage. i have 12 stents .the rest of my blood work is fine.
Avatar m tn check also who is making the research on simvastatin, and that liver damage has been removed recently, at least here in italy
Avatar m tn Tenofovir and Entecarvir only stop or reverse liver damage. Yes, it could help you get undetectable HBV DNA, but it also worsen your liver cells' infection? Does that even make sense? Because they inhibit HBV from growing, should they lower your virus load, then your liver should become less infected, and have time to repair itself? Alinia seems promising at dose 2g/day for HBeAg negative.
Avatar m tn Statins work in the liver and every commercial I have seen advises not to take if you have liver problems. Zetia works in the intestines. Was the Zetia working? If my memory serves me correctly, MikeS is taking statins and he had a TP. He is far more knowledgeable on the subject than I am and hopefully he will see this post and give his input. Zetia is part of a class of drugs called cholesterol absorption inhibitors.
Avatar m tn Simvastatin is contraindicated in pregnancy and liver disease, according to Wikipedia. I also know that Cresor 40mg is not recommended for Asians. I would like to know why you believe simvastatin and or statin in geneal have ant-hbv activities? Have you heard of cases where statins cause acute liver failure in chronic hbv patients?
907968 tn?1292622204 -- Long-term use of cholesterol-lowering statins does not increase the risk of liver disease in patients with abnormal liver function, and can actually improve liver function, according to a new study that challenges widespread belief. The researchers also pointed out that this study is the first to show that statins provide a substantially greater cardiovascular benefit in patients with abnormal liver function than in those with normal liver function. The study, published in the Nov.
Avatar m tn the rest are just bla bla because you need a trial and a study to prove statins can make liver damage, liver experts said that even a rise in alt is not a sign of liver damage http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19208350 http://archive.mail-list.com/hbv_research/message/20060621.051739.d0c7de34.en.html http://archive.mail-list.com/hbv_research/message/20050605.075430.fd516aea.en.
Avatar m tn on the contrary studies on these cheap and generic durgs are not funded by drug makers, on the contrary we see stupid doctors without trials or studies saying now that these drugs can make liver damage while it is the opposite. only less than 1% has effects on liver and my question is how many drugs have less than 1% effect on liver..........
Avatar f tn Can medications to lower high chlorestorol damage your liver, I have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease now and I am afraid to take statin drugs. How important is my concern. Simvastatin is one in particular.
Avatar m tn 4 [0027] These cases involve the administration of simvastatin to patients with known Hepatitis B and C, and other causes of liver cirrhosis, mainly alcoholic. All of these patients had normal alphafetoprotein levels and were given simvastatin on a daily basis since their first diagnosis of their liver disease. None of these patients showed an elevation of alphafetoprotein during an observation period.
Avatar m tn I’m scared that my ALT which is already high at 35 might increase and do damage. My doctor doesn’t seem worried about the ALT; he told me to take the SIM pills and hasn’t talked about the ALT level……………………………………………….. ……………………………………………………………………………………………… Should I go on a diet and take the SIM pills for a month and get new blood work, maybe the high ATL levels are from my diet and high Cholesterol? Or will a month on the SIM pill possibly do more irreversible damage?
Avatar m tn hbsag quantity by abbott architect hbvdna pcr liver damage by fibroscan every 6 months (you should have avoided biopsy, it just makes liver damage and can miss cirrhosis giving false results, i suggest recheck by fibroscan to see if it is cirrhosis) check posts from other members to find which hospitals in india have hbsag quant and fibroscan
Avatar m tn check hbsag quantity and if result is less than 1500iu/ml you may clear hbv with interferon+simvastatin+vit d3+alinia (nizonide500) if hbsag is high the chances to clear are almost zero so it is better to wait and monitor liver damage by fibroscan, hbvdna has very little meaning if normal alt/ast and no liver damage by fibroscan
Avatar f tn “If you are unaware that a patient is on simvastatin and you give either boceprevir or telaprevir, the simvastatin level in the blood can go high and patients can develop muscle breakdown,” said Dr. Jensen. http://www.idse.net//ViewArticle.aspx?
Avatar m tn nothing to do with super research, you take simvastatin and then check hbsag, but of course for research you must use better tools but for us even this tool is ok, we just need to see if it lowers it on us sim is ok for people with very little liver damage like f1-f2 and it is better to check all liver parameters if trying it now because in rare cases there is muscle/liver damage
Avatar m tn My viral load is currently 992 iu/ml whiel ALT has been 22 with these values liver damage is zero on most patients, you dont need a therapy and if damage is present it will be reversed at this low levels according to latest studies you might try simvastatin for a period of 3-6 months and see if alt and hbvdna gets und, i dont suggest antivirals because they cannot be stopped and they will not improve more than you are now pains are just due to inflammation, nothing to do with HCC or cirrhosis.
Avatar n tn was on lipitor for 5 months and switched two weeks ago to simvastatin in hopes of less side effects. just got some blood work done and the liver enzymes are elevated about one and a half times normal. does anyone know if its normal to see a spike in liver enzymes after switching statins or does this mean my body is rejecting the new statin?
Avatar m tn 5 or 2g 2g can lower healthy bacteria in the stomach of some so probiotics are suggested on the 2g dose of alinia and on simvastatin it is better to check main blood tests, liver tests and creatinine for kidneys every 6 months
Avatar m tn this is what trials found while what they say on the drug is not supported by trials and not supported by liver experts the high dose have had extremely rare rise of alt which dont mean liver damage as we now know, in any case just as a extra safety check alt/ast and creatinine monthly, if you get an alt rise we must then check if it is immune activation and lowering of hbvdna and hbsag or drugs toxicity and this is simple if alt rise a lot (over 200) and hbsag and hbvdna rise or stay stable fo
428155 tn?1203688894 in New Zealand), which my GP had prescribed me 2 years beforehand to control my cholesterol level. I stopped simvastatin and all fibrillations have disappeared. As I was taking simvastatin, I was in fibrillation 17% of the time; 1 month after I stopped simvastatin, the level was down to 0%. I am now experimenting with alternative cholesterol control methods: Omega 3 gels, ground linseed, charcoal.
1094370 tn?1317134825 Diseases that Cause Elevated Liver Enzymes in the Blood The most common diseases causing abnormally elevated ALT and AST are acute viral hepatitis, such as hepatitis A or B, chronic viral hepatitis, such hepatitis B or C, cirrhosis of the liver (scarring of the liver due to long standing inflammation of the liver), liver damage from alcohol abuse or alcoholic fatty liver, hemochromatosis (a genetic condition causing long standing liver damage due to iron build up in the liver), and diminished
Avatar f tn Would you rather lower your cholesterol or double your chances of liver damage? Any drug is processed by, and therefore taxes the liver, the more medications the more difficult it is for your liver. However, as a former drinker with high cholesterol, I have found that my blood pressure and liver enzyme tests are far more normal than when I was drinking. Please consider what is most important to you, your health or your alcohol intake.
Avatar m tn yes and no, if you have good antioxidant defence your liver can sty in a balance between damage and regeneration with no liver damage t all.alt is very poor as liver damage indicator but useful with all other parameters for doctor interpretation for exmple i regressed my fibrosis with alt 40-50, another one my not regress it even if lt 20....too many factors involved Appearing of HBSAB <2 IU/ML is what condiction?
