Avatar n tn Beta blockers like metoprolol and ACE inhibitors like benazepril have been been shown to be of value in patients with congestive heart failure as well as for hypertension. Simvastatin is of value for patients with both diabetes and heart disease. Talk to your doctor and changes can be made to minimize the side effects.
Avatar m tn I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol. I take metformin for the diabetes and simvastatin for the cholesterol. Recently, (just the last few days), my ears have steadily grown in "fullness". It happens mainly at night when I lay down to sleep. Most times I just fall asleep and wake up fine. But tonight, when the fullness came on, I started feeling dizzy while laying down and that started a litlle anxiety episode and here it is 3+ hours later.
Avatar m tn There was just a report on the news last week that statins have been linked top type II diabetes. My wife is on 80mg of Simvastatin while I'm on 20mg. Coincidence or not, we both contracted type II in recent years. I believe that the benefits pf statins outweigh the risks and have altered my eating lifestyle so to nearly exclude carbohydrates. This has enabled me to continue statin regime while keeping my fasting blood glucose levels at acceptaptable unmedicated levels.
Avatar m tn Rosiglitazone, an old diabetes drug is active on hbsag lowering and synergistic with nucs and interferon.these are the drugs to study not stupid nucs that acts on hbvdna only making mutations. on the contrary studies on these cheap and generic durgs are not funded by drug makers, on the contrary we see stupid doctors without trials or studies saying now that these drugs can make liver damage while it is the opposite.
1423357 tn?1511085442 There is no evidence that your cholesterol med Simvastatin [Zocor] raises glucose levels nor does it cause diabetes. Your doctor is correct. Poor diet/nutrition is a major contributor to your high cholesterol, your rising glucose levels and will lead to full blown diabetes. Other contributing factors are being a "bit overweight" and lack of exercise. "..could they point me to an authoritative source that I could direct him to?" Point him to?
Avatar m tn Advicor (lovastatin/niacin extended-release), Simcor (simvastatin/niacin extended-release), and Vytorin (simvastatin/ezetimibe).
Avatar m tn entecavir lowers hbvdna and replication, so number of circulating virions but cannot stop virions and replication complitely simvastatin, makes weak virions so maybe replication can be lowered so much or stopped complitely and fasten cccdna and hbsag lowering nitazoxanide, acts lowering hbsag it is also good to note that etv and ntz has no sides, and also simvastatin has almost no sides (only less than 1% develops sides on liver) and studies on sim on cirrhosis have found lower liver cancer ra
Avatar f tn “If you are unaware that a patient is on simvastatin and you give either boceprevir or telaprevir, the simvastatin level in the blood can go high and patients can develop muscle breakdown,” said Dr. Jensen. http://www.idse.net//ViewArticle.aspx?
Avatar f tn My right arm is the only thing that bothers me feeling a little tingly or a slight numb. I was put on an aspirin for life and on simvastatin. I want to know if anyone has gotten pregnant after a stroke and how it went for you?
Avatar m tn It would also be worth her having a blood test for anaemia, diabetes, Vitamin B12 deficiency, thyroid and any other blood test that the doctor may feel relevant.
Avatar n tn Statins do not suit everyone. My next door neighbour who is in his 60s had a severe reaction to simvastatin and now refuses to take any statins. My husband too refuses to take statins. The bad high cholesterol can be reduced through exercise and consuming the right type of foods and losing weight if this is an issue. Hope all goes well for you. Best wishes.

Avatar m tn Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker while lisnopril is an angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE) inhibitor. Both groups of drugs and simvastatin are unlikely to cause erectile dysfunction. However yes, all three of them can cause swelling of ankles. Talk to your doctor. You can change your medications. Among antihypertensives you need to avoid thiazides , beta blockers and alpha blockers. High blood pressure and reduced blood supply to penis can also cause erectile dysfunction.

My internist who I have been seeing for three years questioned me about my family history.

Avatar f tn Fat-soluble statins like Lipitor and Zocor cause more damage than water soluble statins like Pravachol and Crestor. Hence the latter should be tried at lower dose. Possibility of hypothyroidism and diabetes should be ruled out as the presence of either disease can complicate the muscle pain. The role of Co Q10 in lowering cholesterol is controversial and should not be tried without consulting your doctor. Please discuss these points with your treating physician.
Avatar f tn I am a 22 year old female and recently had a blood test which showed I have 7.7 cholesterol. My BMI is 20.4, don't smoke and am otherwise healthy. How serious is this and what risk am I under? Is it possible that I have had this all my life without knowing, and would the damage irreversible?
Avatar n tn On a recent blood test my potassium level was above normal. I stopped taking simvastatin. After 3 months I took another blood test and now my cholesterol level has risen to 6.5. What shall I do. I am seeing my Doctor next week.
645800 tn?1466860955 Vytorin is a combination Ezetimibe and simvastatin and I'm currently taking simvastatin. My doctor is switching my medicine due to my leg cramps to see if that will help. All of the cholesterol "statin" medicines can cause muscle cramps. This one works in the gut to keep your body from getting the cholesterol into your body in the first place.
