I'm a nurse and had a guy come on our floor with sildenafil as a regular medication. I asked the doctor why and he said the pulmonary hypertension. So I could see a use for what your husband said.
Avatar n tn Her outlook all depends on whether she has primary or secondary PH. The outlook is better for secondary (it just means that the PH was caused by something else like sleep apnea). The doctors that generally handle PH are pulmonary docs and they specialize in PH. I'm sorry to say that I don't know any docs in CT but you could always call the NIH (national institute for health) in Bethsda, MD and they could recommend a doctor that is specialized in PH.
Avatar f tn Hi Everyone, My 15yr. old male, neutered, Pekingese, Petey, was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 renal failure. He does have some other health issues as well. He has insulinoma (tumors in pancreas), as well as pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the lungs due to "leaky" heart valve). He was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension around March of this year by a cardiologist.
Avatar n tn You might want to consider trying some probiotics - in capsule form rather than those that are found in yogurt. Those in capsule form typically have higher count than what is found in yogurt.

Avatar f tn Primary pulmonary hypertension is a rare disease of unknown etiology, whereas secondary pulmonary hypertension is a complication of many pulmonary, cardiac and extrathoracic conditions. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, left ventricular dysfunction and disorders associated with hypoxemia frequently result in pulmonary hypertension. Regardless of the etiology, unrelieved pulmonary hypertension can lead to right-sided heart failure.
Avatar f tn I have moderate Pulmonary Hypertension secondary to an uncorrected ASD. Is it too late for a correction?
Avatar n tn Is the pulmonary hypertension causing the right ventricle enlargement and the tricuspid regurgitation and would this then be primary pulmonary hypertension. Or, can you explain what is causing her pulmonary hypertension. I have been told my my mother's cardiologist that her tricuspid regurgitation is causing the pulmonary hypertension. But I have talked to other doctors that tell me that the pulmonary hypertension is causing the tricuspid regurgitation.
Avatar n tn My first heart cath in the late '80's showed mild pulmonary hypertension. However it was the only right/left cath I have had done. I have had several since but only right (?) side. I have since developed NICM and have an ICD. Most recent cath showed 40 - 45% EF. The cath was done due to symptoms of chest pressure and SOB upon strenous exertion. The drs have told me that they do not believe my symptoms are heart related, but rather due to my lungs.
Avatar f tn is it Primary Pulmonary Hypertension or is it so-called Secondary Pulmonary Hypertension, the most common causes of which include recurrent pulmonary emboli (clots to the lung), disease of a heart valve, or estrogen or appetite suppressant therapy. While pulmonary hypertension is a somewhat common disease, the cause may not immediately evident to one’s doctors.

Avatar n tn I have lupus also and was dx with PH, PAP pressure on echo last time was 46. I had a right and left heart cath done last Fri and my PAP was 27.5, checked 3 times. You do not need O2 and a good cardiology/pulmonary eval would be beneficial to you. I have lung and heart valve issues but not PH, thank God. I also have low O2 sats at night but once you are committed to O2, it is hard to get off. I am on Plaquenil as well. My rheumatologist did not settle for echocardiogram results.
Avatar n tn Since then, BP STILL remains uncontrolled despite seeing one of the best hypertension specialist in the country. BP ranges anywhere from 168/100 to 225/125 on MANY (6-8) anti-hypertensive agents. All secondary causes have been ruled out thus far as I have had the entire work up for secondary causes repeated.
Avatar f tn I called the Pulmonary Hypertension clinic I am seen at and they seem like a Pulmonary Emboilism is no big deal in a Pulmonary Hypertension patient. I am confused.
Avatar f tn For a perspective, pulmonary hypertension is high blood pressure in the arteries which take blood between the heart and lungs. It can be caused by disorders, such as pulmonary heart disease, pulmonary artery blood clots, mitral valve narrowing, and cirrhosis of the liver. Secondary pulmonary hypertension. When PH occurs along with other lung, heart, or systemic connective tissue disease (such as scleroderma), it is called Secondary Pulmonary Hypertension.
Avatar m tn We use echocardiography to estimate the blood pressure in the lungs. The definition of pulmonary hypertension is a mean pulmonary pressure greater than 25 mmHg at rest or 30 mmHg with exercise. The echocardiogram cannot tell you what the mean pulmonary pressure is. Instead, it provides you an estimate of what the right ventricular systolic pressure is. This is usually extrapolated to represent elevated pressure in the lungs but is not the gold standard for diagnosis.
Avatar m tn Before effective therapy for PH, the condition should be determined if PH is primary or caused by another underlying cause (secondary PH). Secondary pulmonary hypertension is much more common than primary pulmonary hypertension. A newer classification of this condition is based on the main underlying cause of pulmonary hypertension.
351404 tn?1299489130 I was recently diagnosed with SVT and now an echocardiogram shows right side enlargement. My specialist suspects pulmonary hypertension and has so far given me a VQ scan which has proved negative. I am due for a TOE which I think is an oesophagal tube which can give an echocardiogram of the heart from the back and cross section. I am also due to wear a Novacor monitor (when our NHS can get one!). Will these tests determine once and for all whether I do also have PH?
Avatar f tn Primary pulmonary hypertension is high blood pressure in the lungs without other causes (lung disease or heart disease for example) and usually occurs in older children/teens. It is a very serious medical condition. It requires aggressive medical management to avoid failure of the right side of the heart.
Avatar n tn I had an echocardiogram and was told by my Pulmonologist that I have Pulmonary Hypertension because my systolic PAP was 32 mmHg. It also showed mild tricuspid regurgitation, trace mitral regurgitation, and the right ventricle appeared enlarged (but was not measured). I was referred to a Cardiologist who said this echocardiogram was perfectly normal and there's nothing wrong with me. I also have semi-frequent dypsnea, which is why I was seeing the Pulmonologist, but not other symptoms.
Avatar n tn into your lungs and causes, guess what, pulmonary hypertension. Smoking can also lead to pulmonary hypertension. You need to stop smoking, and get your blood pressure under control. Don't wait. Find a doctor who will help you. If you do not, you're in for serious problems down the road. Do it for your kids.
Avatar f tn I have had an echo done where I was told that I have mild to moderate mitral valve regurgitation. The pressure was 47mmhg. I saw a pulmonologist who said he believes I have secondary pulmonary hypertension. Waiting to here from my cardiologist. Kinda freaking out. Should I be worried?
Avatar n tn Tricuspid regurgitation may not produce any symptoms if the patient does not have pulmonary hypertension.
1832268 tn?1326816010 (please forgive any misspellings) My mother just recovered from a bout of interstitial pneumonia, and has been told that she is in the final stages of her pulmonary hypertension...could you please tell me what an average life expectancy is at this point...? She currently needs to use 6 liters of continuous oxygen per minute to maintain an oxygen saturation in the 94 percent range. She maintains this saturation as long as she remains seated.
