Common Questions and Answers about Signs of oxycontin use

oxycontin

Avatar f tn My Dad was recently put on oxycontin- short term- for hip pain. He is having surgery next week. My Mom called telling me that Dad was having to concentrate on his breathing, was dizzy and having problems concentrating. I told her to bring him to the hospital. I will be leaving to meet them but I thought that these were all signs of a overdose. I really haven't had these signs when I was abusing so I am not sure. Can anyone enlighten me?
Avatar f tn It's a long story, and what I want to find out what the effects on the brain and other organs from long tern use of oxycontin. I can't seem to find any information about this on the internet. My husband had his first neck surgery in 1990 and after that more neck surgery, 2 knee replacements, and a shoulder replacement. He was prescribed oxycontin and has been taking it since then. He is now 70 and I just wonder if some of his problems are old age or from the drugs.
5093508 tn?1390543931 Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I'm sorry I haven't replied to you sooner. I didn't receive any notification on this. I just happened to look at my posts & saw there were 2 answers. I got an emergency appt with a GP at my clinic. He did a thorough check and luckily said it's not pleurisy, but a severe chest infection.
Avatar f tn She has been ordered to go cold turky on the oxycontin because there is signs of liver and kidney damage. They wont operate on her for her pain till she loses a bit of weight. She is doing her best to lose weight but it is hard as she can not move much. Could someone please tell me what the actual with drawal affects are of going straight off Oxycontin and how long does it take to get out of your system.
Avatar n tn I know of someone who has been addicted to oxycontin for over 2 years. He has been through rehab twice already. He recently told me he got himself off the oxycontin but now sometimes buys 1 or 2 pills on the weekend and does it socially. I'm not stupid, but I do not know anything about oxycontin. Even though I know nothing about this drug, common sense tells me that an addict cannot go back to their drug of choice even socially or this will spark their drug abuse again.
725248 tn?1316162245 Opana is a nice step up from Oxycontin. It is 10x stronger than Oxycontin. If you were to take a 40mg tab of Opana, it would be like taking 60-80 mg of Oxycontin. If your Pain Management Doc recommends it over the Oxycontin then I would suggest trying it. I feel that you'll get better pain relief from it.
Avatar f tn He promised he was going to stop. He had been good for about two months, showing signs of detoxing and everything. But earlier this week there were tell tale signs that he had taken some. How far in addition might he be if he was use to taking 3 oxy's & 1 perc three times a week? Since he took it earlier this week he seems to be fine. Should there be sings of him craving it again if he hadn't taken anything since?
526570 tn?1303437221 lortab, oxycodone (maybe),methadone,oxycontin....any of those. im thinkin oxy again, brown football shaped somethings, he left me for a week about 2 weeks ago so he could have started again then or even sooner.
Avatar f tn I am now again getting off pills OXYCONTIN I have been really strong for the last 2 wks my turning point was realizing that I am lazy unmotivated by the high amounts of oxycontin that I once thought was giving me energy and making me happy I now know it is a lie I am not getting nothing done I just dont care whether or not I get it done!
Avatar m tn Why do you feel you can't talk to your doctor? Has this type of thing happened before? Over the past 4 years I've had a few mishaps with medication and my doctor was very understanding. As I'm sure you know, methadone has a long half-life so how do you know when you need to start the oxycontin? And where are you getting the oxycontin? You could really jeopardize your relationship with your doctor by doing this.
Avatar f tn Here I am sleepless day 11 and wanted to add to this already brilliant advice. I spoke to my pharmacist before I detoxed because of the strange effect oxycontin seemed to have on my brain and life outlook compared to the other opiates I had tried. She explained that it binds to the neurons in the brain in a way that no other opiate does. The last time I was switched to oxy it made me feel sketchy and terrible and I ct after one month.
441506 tn?1267533765 Erm i dont really no what other signs there could be, i think the messy toliet kind of does it... Have you spoken too your daugter? maybe if you asked her too tell you what she doesn't like about herself... Maybe help her try diets or do excersizes with her let.... I think you should ask your daughter out front if she is using laxatives and if she is why? then explain too her that its not a good idea.... I hope this advice helps you...
Avatar f tn Neither of my children were showing signs of withdrawal by day 3 in the hospital (I had c-sections). I also was taking two anti-depressants--one of which was pulled from the market after my second baby was born (17 months apart). I didn't breast feed and knew that wouldn't be an option for me. My two children are, at the time I post this answer, 14 and 15-1/2 years old. Neither have shown signs of addiction at this point. Neither child required narcotic weaning as infants.
Avatar f tn I now do not believe my WD will be overly traumatic due to my relatively low use of opiates (my interpretation). We shall see. What remains is what to do with the underlying medical condition that led to the habituation. It's clear I need a new MD. There aren't enough disparaging remarks I could make about my former pain mgmt. doc. Anyway...... I'll keep reading and then posting, when appropriate, and see where I end up. SO far, ok.
Avatar f tn Have you asked your doc about trying to manage your pain with less (or no) narcotics? Actually, long term use of opiate meds for chronic pain can actually exacerbate the pain. Look up hyperalgesia. If there any kind of surgical option? What other methods for pain control have you tried? Some people need narcotic pain meds to manage their pain, but often times, people haven't even tried other options, or tried to in the least cut down their usage.
Avatar f tn Please someone tell me what the physical signs of opiate abuse or use is? I really need to know! I am going crazy trying to figure it out myself! I have seen so many signs, but want to hear from others to see if what I believe is true. thanks!
Avatar n tn My question is if I stopped using 6 weeks prior to delivery will my baby still show signs of addiction? I mean if I am clean from here on till delivery? Will the baby or I test positive or show signs of withdrawal at birth 9 that is what I am trying to avoid. Please help Thanks!
Avatar f tn Hi emmaless, Am I reading your post correctly that you were taking 80 mg of Oxycontin 3x per day and 40 mg of Oxycontin 3x per day? If yes, keep reading...LOL. I thought you wrote that you were taking 80 mg and 40mg total of Oxycontin per day. That is why my post to your other thread stated that you were on more medicine through Fentanyl than through Oxycontin. That is not the case if you taking the 80 mg and the 40 mg 3x per day. That is 120 mg x 3 or 360 mg of Oxycontin per day vs.
Avatar f tn Does oxycontin as recreational use exhibit symptoms of indifference and apathy and unconcern over everyday obligations and responsibilities which prior to use were contradictory to the persons character. In other words a complete change of personally untecogisable by loved ones?
Avatar f tn I had one pain doctor that told me that if you can spend more days in the week not taking the drugs then taking them, then the risk of becoming physically dependent on them goes way down. If you can go two or three days without noticing signs of withdrawl than I would think you are probably in pretty good shape. But if you are really taking the long acting ones and only skipping one day and then right back at it then you may be developing a problem.
Avatar n tn You are not puking cause of HIV-it is completely normal for oxycontin to cause that when you dont have a tolerance built up to it. It is HIGHLY addictive and if you use it for a couple of days in a row and then stop, you will get dope sick-go through withdrawl and that is by far one of the worst things youy will ever experience. Take your bad experience as a lesson learned and be grateful that it didnt kill you. Someone without tolerance to the drug can overdose with even a small doseage.
Avatar f tn You will not have a great deal of power over the use of another; you can at least make sure that all of her treatment providers know your observations and know her history of addiction. You can also make sure that she can't find her car keys (by taking them), and maybe do a 'clean-out' of the drugs in her house. All of this risks getting her angry at you, but sometimes it just has to be done.
Avatar n tn Is scratching a sympton of heroin use, he also has pinpoint pupils and the nodding off in mid-sentence.
Avatar m tn What you describe are classic and normal symptoms of withdrawal from a high mg daily dose..Being a veteran of three cases of oxycontin withdrawal..I would not wish it on my worst enemy as well..If you can find a "non-oxycodone" based way to manage your pain, I would highly suggest you seek an alternative..
