94365 tn?1216087160 In 2007 I was having abdominal pain and after ultrasounds and scans was advised of polycystic ovaries,, I was also advised that there was a cyst on my left ovary that was 3 1/2 cm and one on my right ovary that was 2cm , the result was removal of the left ovary and fallopian tube and removal of the cyst that was on my right ovary. Within the next month we found ourselves pregnant and now 5 wks after delivery I am having bad abdominal pain and nausea.
Avatar n tn Although it’s not known for sure whether benign ovarian cysts or polycystic ovaries develop into ovarian cancer, the vast majority of ovarian cysts appear to be unrelated. Women who have polycystic ovaries or ovarian cancer seldom have obvious symptoms early on. However, in both disorders, symptoms are noticed as the condition progresses. Because the ovaries are affected on both disorders, the some of the symptoms can be similar.
Avatar f tn William Parker who uses organ-sparing procedures says that post-menopausal ovarian cysts are more common than many realize and MOST of these cysts are benign (just as they are in premenopausal women) and do not require removal of ovary(ies) IF you have the right doctor.
Avatar f tn Hi there, Try not to worry as benign cysts can also cause these symptoms. I presume there will be follow up tests or appts with your doctor. Good luck and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn ve heard of some women having only the cysts removed and leaving some or all of the ovaries intact. You could ask your doctor about that possibility or get another opinion. Some doctors are not as comfortable doing something that delicate. It's easier to pull the whole works. If you can keep some ovary, then you'll still have your hormones that can lead to a natural menopause. Are you nervous about HRT or about the surgery?
Avatar f tn HI I just had a hysterectomy for a variety of reasons - endometriosis being one of them. I had cysts caused by endo as well. They are able to be picked up by u/s but nobody will say for sure (at least they shouldn't) what something is until it is taken out and biopsied. Endometriomas are complex (have debris, blood and some fluid) and resemble hemorrhagic cysts - both of these are benign.

Avatar f tn Last month I went to the er because of the pain in my side. At the er they told me I had an ovarian cyst on my right ovary. and to followup with the gyno. I went to see the gyno and he was very rude told me that my cyst was only 2.3cm and not big enough to cause pain, and that I needed to see a gastro. I saw the gastro and since I lost my mom this year to colon cancer, he ordered a ct scan.

Avatar f tn Any mom's have experiences with ovarian cysts during pregnancy? I haven't been diagnosed with an ultrasound yet but with my signs and symptoms I'm pretty sure I have one. I get stabbing pain in the same spot, near my right ovary a few times each day with certain movements and activities. 5 weeks tomorrow but I had the pain long before I was pregnant. From what I read they're fairly normal and insignificant?
254714 tn?1316613355 i had done in Dec 2009 bilateral ocarian cysts areidentified once again. the right ovarian cyst appears complex vs two adjacent cysts with a combined cystic structure measuring 3.3*5.6*3.3 cm representing an interval increase in size greatest dimension of 4.2cm on 10/29/09 no color doppler blood flow is demonstrated nor nodularity internally. overall the right ovary measure 3.1*6.5*4.0 cm the left ovary is also slighty enlarged measuring 3.4*5.2*4.
Avatar m tn I’m 50 years old, perimenopausal (continue to have regular, but very light periods), and have a 4 cm dermoid cyst on my left ovary. My doctor has given me the option of watching and waiting or having it removed laproscopically. She suggested that if I choose to have it removed, I have the ovary removed also due to my age. The cyst was discovered while trying to determine the cause of abdominal pain that turned out to be a ruptured cyst on the right ovary.
Avatar f tn I had a laparoscopy done April 2010. For 2 cysts, 1 on each ovary. My left had a cyst of 5cm, the right, 7cm. My cysts have all been simple fluid filled cysts. The concern would be, youre not having regular periods, and with the cyst growing, you run risk of it twisting the ovary, or rupturing. Do you know if the cyst is in or out of the ovary? My cysts have all been IN the ovary.
Avatar f tn Ovarian cysts in post-menopausal women are common but any cysts in a postmenopausal woman should be taken seriously and ovarian cancer should be ruled out by means of CA125 which you have already got done. Ovarian cysts are considered for removal if they cause pain or have tendency to become malignant or there is elevated CA125. Given your history of abdominal swelling, ovarian malignancy can be a possibility.
Avatar m tn It would be unusual for her to have a problem with the remaining ovary. Usually, ovarian cysts pose no other issue once they have been removed. She should talk to her doctor to make sure there was not anything unusual about her cyst that could affect the other ovary. But, in general, she should be fine!
Avatar n tn Another possibility to look at would be your appendix, unless you have already gotten it out. Fibroids and ovarian cysts can cause a lot of pain. I would talk to your doctor about your concerns, but it does sound like it is the fibroid and cysts.
Avatar f tn When the follicles are forming small cysts may be present in the normal ovary. These ovarian cysts which start during the normal function of menstrual cycle are called functional cysts which are of two types follicular cyst and corpus luteal cyst. Most of these cysts are harmless and disappear over a period of time. They are usually asymptomatic. In few patients cysts may cause menstrual irregularities, pelvic pain. In such cases medical help should be sought.
Avatar n tn i read on a medical web page not long after finding out that i myself have a hemmhoragic cyst on my left ovary that fertility drugs can help to cause ovarian cysts because most ovarian cysts are caused by the eggs not making it all the way out of the ovary or something of that sort and they just kind of pile up inside of the ovary and form a cyst. however, i did read that most ovarian cysts go away sometime during ovulation.
Avatar m tn What dos it mean? 1.6cm separated rt ovarian cyst. Nonvisualization of left ovary. Nonspecific trace fluid along the anterior margin of the endometrium.
663380 tn?1225079707 ve been in constant pain on my right side. After about a year of digging the cause was cysts on my right ovary. Alas I was put on birth control pills which did help for a while. I stopped taking the birth control about 8 months ago (it stopped working). My menstrual cycle was normal. 7 days of heavy bleeding and cramps. The last two months have been horrible. I first noticed my period was different. In Septemeber I had it for 2 days and this month it lasted 5 hours.
Avatar n tn ve read on here that 95 percent of cysts are benign, but does that go for complex cysts as well as simple cysts? Thanks! I'm just trying to ease my mind.
1297477 tn?1295949511 But, if your cysts are complex (have solid parts), you might want to ask for a second opinion on pathology of your cyst this time. There is a category of complex cysts called borderline ovarian tumors that frequently recur on the opposite ovary after being removed. Although they are a form of ovarian cancer, they usually behave in a benign fashion and fertility can be spared. Also, you wouldn't need chemo. But, you would need close follow-up to watch for recurrence.
Avatar n tn I just don't have any of the symptoms of PCOS. They aren't tiny cysts...the one the Dr. removed was the size of a grapefruit. I also don't think I have insulin resistance, again I don't have any symptoms. Is there an estogen component to PCOS?
656838 tn?1224535476 Well, it is true that cysts are almost always benign. Your nurse practitioner is right. Have you had any other signs of ovarian cancer? Such as bloating, feeling full quickly, unexplained weight loss or gain, feeling really tired all the time, frequent urination? Did your GYN specialist take a CA 125 blood test? If it is elevated it could point to malignancy BUT it could also point to other things such as endo...it certainly doesn't mean for sure your cysts are malignant.
