Avatar m tn My nearly 84 year old mother suffered a "major" stroke 2 days ago. She has not opened her eyes, though she shows signs of awareness and can follow directions when asked. She is sleeping allot. Initially she lost movement on her left side, but it very slowly seems to be coming back. She is saying words, though they are hard to understand. She is receiving IV fluids. The doctor said they would give her another day and see if she "wakes up".
Avatar f tn Hi, 8 days ago my mother of 83 suffered a stroke & hear attack. She survived completely paralyzed and possibly in a coma. I brought her home yesterday with a fluid IV (not a central line) and cath. It appears that she may understand (or maybe just hear us talking) sometimes, as she makes grunting type sounds 1 -2 times a day. She has to be turned every 2 hours and I am trying to provide comfort for her last days. Any suggestions for a person in this condition?
Avatar n tn does anyone know what it means when a stroke victim has tingling and numbness in the back of the head
377493 tn?1356502149 I have a very fair skinned/fair haired 17 month old and want to make sure I am taking the appropriate steps to prevent heat stroke, sun stroke, etc. I know the obvious ones...sun screen, I always put a hat on him (which, to be honest, he promptly takes off..lol), always always have lots of water and continuously offer it and keep him in the shade as much as possible. He loves to be outdoors and we spend as much time as possible doing outdoor activities and playing outside.
Avatar n tn they can not figure out what brought on this stroke! he was over heated, dehydrated, said it could have been a heat stroke but it was in oct 2007 not a hot month.I have had him in and out of doctors offices and still at a dead end.he has developed a few nose bleeds these past two days. should i be concerned?and what should i look for other than passing out spells and numbness. he turns pale out of nowhere.
Avatar m tn Well, there is conflicting information, with much of it falling on the side of smoking weed to actually be helpful to stroke victims. Now, there is a protein in marijuana that has something to do with upping the triglyceride levels in the blood, which if that gets too high, you can get a blood clot that leads to stroke, so you could have some bloodwork done that checks the lipid levels, just to make sure your numbers are in the normal range.
Avatar f tn I hope you took her to a doctor. That is one of the first signs of heat stroke. If this happens often at all you need to worry, heat stroke (unlike heat exhaustion) can atually kill a person becuase it messes with the hypathalmes (aka body heat control central). But because you said she was cold and numb, she could have been in the late stages of heat exhaustion so you caught it in the transtion. Make sure she's drinking plenty of water all day before meets.
1508316 tn?1290065376 If your female dog is bleeding from her vulva, it is likely she is still in heat and not pregnant. Dogs in heat may show signs of licking to clean themselves and occasionally excess drinking, etc occurs as well. Checking with your vet would help to determined this accurately so you are 100% sure about whether or not your dog is or is not pregnant.
Avatar n tn I just joined because I saw this topic and needed to comment! I got heat stroke twice in my 20's. It is now 25 yrs later and I am so intolerant of heat that I had to find an answer. Yes, if you have had heat stroke, you are more susceptible to it after that. Doctors may disagree with me but I feel that it does something to your internal "thermostat" in making you less tolerant to heat.
Avatar f tn Im with you girl i got 5 days left and 2cm for 2 weeks now, i have been trying to walk but its been 102 degrees here and i might just have a heat stroke! my doctor just tells me the same stuff as well, and this isnt my first child i thought i would already have had stronger contractions! My dr did say that she is going to scedule me to be induced on the 9th or 10th =/ kinda nervous about that Hope we start showing more signs of labor !!
Avatar f tn If a massive stroke victim is about 42yrs old and his doctor is not sure what caused the stroke (all test done and all are normal). Does he still need to be on medication and back for routine checkup? How effective would the medication and check up to prevent the 2nd stoke?
Avatar f tn cramping in the legs is one of the signs of heat exhaustion that i know of bc of nursing school right now plz drink lots of fluid sit down for a bit and stay cool no matter what you do.... if any of it gets worse go to the hospital and plz be careful.
927213 tn?1270011366 I don't know. Did she have any symptoms of heat exhaustion going alongside this weakness in her legs? (Such as: heavy panting/breathing TOO deeply/salivation/distress of any kind?).....[later stages include: dry gums as the heat prostration progresses, weakness, confusion or inattention, vomiting or diarrhea and sometimes bleeding. As the condition progresses towards heat prostration or heat stroke there may be obvious paleness or graying to the gums.
Avatar n tn But let me tell you something about hemorrhagic stroke. This kind of stroke is almost of the worst types because of its life threatening conditions. But as a physical therapist, I never give up, and the one who know better about your nephew's condition is his physician. Also, there is so much we can do as health care team/physical therapist and you as a family (talk to your physical therapist and discuss that with him, he should know).
Avatar m tn My husband suffered heat exhaustion a few days ago. He ran a fever of 101 all night w/ sweating off and on. Thinking he would be in the a/c he went back to work the next day and had to be outside to fix a part on the equipment he was running which set him off to a severe headache, he quit sweating, dry and hot, his muscles were starting to cramp and he said he felt like he could vomit, but never did. He had all the symptoms of a stroke, but didn't lose consciousness.
Avatar m tn Is there such a condition as "heat sensitivity or heat intolerance" following a severe case of heat exhaustion or heat stroke? I've been a competitive athlete most of my life and ever since I suffered heat exhaustion a month ago, I experience very rapid heart rate, fatigue and dizziness when even sitting sedentary in a hot environment. Never experienced this before in my lifetime. No matter how much I hydrate beforehand, my body is reacting adversely while exposed to the heat.
Avatar f tn Some days he has no problem with the heat more so than anyone else, but quite often lately he has been showing signs of heat exhaustion, when he was younger he suffered a heat stroke, we are pretty sure that's what it was, my question is does it seem more likely that this is an intolerance to the heat, or seem like an anxiety issue?
Avatar f tn i am a stroke victim. For the last 3 days my fingers have been itcy in my paralysed arm. its been over6 years and this has never happened before.any ideas of whats going on?
Avatar f tn A year ago I believe I suffered some heat exhaustion/stroke and since then, when i start getting hot during activities, i get chills up and down my spine, arms and legs. My calf muscle on my left side will tingle/becomes numb, i get dizzy , my face gets red, i can feel my heart pounding in my head and my breathing is rapid but shallow and i have trouble regulating it for a few minutes. It scares me.
Avatar f tn s doctors and what they did for him. Stroke recovery is a slow process, not only for the stroke victim, but for the family as well. It takes a while to process the event and all of the pain. Dad was making a miraculous recovery considering the extent of his brain injury. He regained great movement on his left, affected side and was walking with the use of a walker. Mentally he is still himself, with a few more hiccups. Words don't come to him as easy.
