Avatar n tn Another name for the procedure was an ileorectal anastomosis whereby the farthest end of the ileum is connected to the top of the rectum. I did not require any pouches/stoma attachments etc. In response to another Medhelp patient I described my experience on Medhelp - please log on to:- http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/523166 Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn e. inertia of colon (motility disorder) I feel leaving some part of rectum/ colon would be wise coz it will make the surgery easy/ less of fecal soiling problem lateron/ less chances of leak from anastomosis.
Avatar m tn I had a stage 1 cancer of the rectum. They resected my colon and removed the entire rectum. They were able to reconnect the colon so I did not have to have a colostomy. But now I have a constant feeling that I have to have a bowel movement. I take 3-4 Imodium per day. I need to get back to work but worry I may have problems. My work is very physicial for 8 straight hours.
Avatar n tn constipation, bloating, diarrhea from laxative, blood coming out of rectum, cramping, pain around the area of sigmoid colon, descending colon, lower abdomen.
Avatar f tn The greater damage might be that your bowels are less hydrated on a daily basis, and the bowels can solidify and become hard to expell. Rock-hard bowels can cut the anal ring when being forced out of the rectum. Apparently, you do not get constipated if you can last 2 weeks without a BM. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Avatar f tn Hello, My mother had all of her colon removed and had the small intestine connected to the rectum in 2003. We were never told the name of this procedure and was wondering what the medical terminology of this is called. She has been having trouble in the last year; every time she bends over she vomits and has the sweats with abdominal pain following. We were wondering that if we looked up the procedure, perhaps we could find out if this is one of the side effects.

Avatar m tn Hello, I had rectal bleeding about 4 years ago which turned out to be a hemorrhoid, The doctor clipped it and about a week later I noticed bleeding again. Called the doctor and I schedule a appointment but the appointment was two weeks away.
Avatar m tn Hi i had surgery last year which was removal of the whole large bowl because of UC but my surgeon left the rectum and a bit of the large colon for the future chance of a reversal. A few months later my ileostomy is fine but i started bleeding from the bottom end again i have been put on prednisolone and sulphurzalasine suppositeries but nothing has helped i had a endoscopy and it the results where that i had UC again in the large bit of colon and my rectum may have proctitis.
Avatar n tn In the following days when I was back at home I found myself having to deal with large amounts of mucus continually being discharged from my rectum. I am aware that with the large colon still intact the colon naturally produces a small amount of mucus, just as it did for the first 18 months after I was originally given the illeostomy. However this time the mucus levels were un-manageable, over ten times more in volume.

Avatar n tn I have told my doctor many times, that it feels like my descending colon (the last part of the colon before reaching the rectum) is paralyzed. It seems like the stool isn't being moved along like it should be. I have to take MiraLax every other night. This is not recommended as a regular softener. LOTS of fiber and drinking WARM water is very helpful. You really should request an appointment to see a gastro specialist. Something needs to be changed....

449658 tn?1211304322 I also have pain with intercourse and putting in a tampon. Just wondering if any of this information is consistent with colon issues such as colon cancer - i've never had surgery - why would i have adhesions on my colon? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Avatar f tn One would remove my entire colon and join my small bowel to my rectum. The other one would leave 6 – 8 inches of my sigmoid colon. Do you know which of these is most often done for colonic inertia? Is one more effective than the other? In addition, the one taking my entire colon would join the small bowel to the rectum at a right angle. The other one would attach the small bowel going straight down into the sigmoid colon. Do you know which of these techniques is best?
2158237 tn?1336756535 Fuzzy, I'm not a radiologist either, but in looking at your scan and the report there is mention of a markedly redundant colon. This is a finding many people have and it's probably something you were born with. It means a section of your colon (in your case around the area of the sigmoid colon) is longer than what is typically considered normal. Many people with this condition descibe having 'constipation' issues.
Avatar f tn On my last pregnancy the doctor told me i had two hemorrhoids and that the cut she did from my vagina to my rectum to help with the birthday was quite deep and sometimes because of the straining trying to have bms i will occasionally rip where the cut was made. Well last week i was constipated for about 4 days when i finally went i strained so hard and the bm was so big that i actually felt the rip, and i bled and my rectum was on fire and sore after the bm that i cried.
3189977 tn?1344898538 Turned out I had proctosigmoiditis. Just a small irritation at the end of my colon, near the rectum. To make a long story short , I suffered for about 6 years with meds and reacurring problems . eventually my entire colon was inflamed. I dreaded surgury, but I went to the lahey clinic and had a total colectomy... I just new i had to live with the bag for the rest of my life , so I dident dwell on it, once i found a comfortable bag ,it made life easier.
Avatar n tn Inflammation in the colon also causes the colon to empty frequently, causing diarrhea. When the inflammation occurs in the rectum and lower part of the colon it is called ulcerative proctitis. If the entire colon is affected it is called pancolitis. If only the left side of the colon is affected it is called limited or distal colitis. Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the general name for diseases that cause inflammation in the small intestine and colon.
Avatar f tn So the only way to bring the chance of recurrent diverticulitis down to zero is to perform an abdominal colectomy with ileoproctostomy. This removes all of the colon down to the rectum and attaches the small intestine to the rectum. This was traditionally done for familial polyposis and typically results in 5 or 6 stools daily. What has been a much better compromise has been to remove the sigmoid colon when this has been the focus of the diverticulitis.
Avatar n tn She is so fearful to take anything for fear of it upsetting her stomach and injuring her already sensitive colon and rectum. She is trying Aloe Vera juice, and I have heard of taking Slippery Elm Inner bark she has begun to try that also. Can anyone relate, or have any sililarities, or any advice? I looked up on the Internet and found a condition called Proctalgia Fugax. She feels this usually only occurs at night, so she does not feel this condition is what is going on with her.
Avatar m tn I'm having pain down the right side of my body in what seems like the whole of the ascending colon. It's hard to explain, there's also a pulse like pain that starts around my hip bone or the end of the ascending colon that travels up the ascending colon. I'm very uncomfortable after a meal and I can feel a little relief after I been to the toilet.
Avatar m tn told me that he wanted both colon and rectum removed based on 2010 colonoscopy and previous pathology reports and he was stunned that i had only been monitored every two years, he says if i don't have the surgery, i will get cancer. i guess they are worried that some of my polyps are already 10 yrs old, they just kept multiplying i guess because they were not all being taken out 10 yrs ago.
Avatar m tn i had problems in digestion and any food make great amount of gases and my colon i think it is not stable and i feel my intestine moving in different directions and making noise and sound and in the morning i always feel that my stomatch is not well like i will vomit if i eat any normal food but the great problem is that these great amount of gases i cant prevent them for long time so they are moving quickly from the colon to the anal place and making sounds from the anal but they dont go out al
