440120 tn?1211724496 I have had cats my whole life and they usually have slept in my bed at one time or the other. Since losing my beloved cat in Hurricane Dennis I haven't had another cat in 3years. I had my appendix removed last August. I mentioned that because of the mystery purpose of the appendix in the human body. I recently acquired a new 7wk old kitten and for the first week I had it,I showed no signs of an allergy.
Avatar n tn We have a 16.5 year old Bermese-mixed cat, who is (within the last 10 days) losing her fur in clumps. She is an indoor cat. Our other cat, who's 16 was raised with her with no signs of the same condition affecting her. We have not changed her cat food and have not found any flea droppings on her at all. The only changes in the house, was a recent loss of our 13 yr old dog and an addition of a 7 mo puppy in December.
Avatar f tn I do know that there are a lot of allergies around this year and eyes sting and smart, all the same it maybe a good idea to have them looked at by your opthamologist
Avatar n tn Today in revisiting and playing with a couple of cats I developed allergies. When I went home I played with my cat and the allergies returned. What could have caused this and should I adopt a new cat if I somehow now have cat allergies?
Avatar n tn Otodectes, Cheyletiella, Scabies, etc, ringworm and other fungal infections, allergies (allergies to food can occur anytime in the life of a cat), bacterial skin infections, endocrine disorders and more. Ringworm, and some mites can be transmitted to people. Frontline does not treat mites. The topical: "Revolution" is for fleas, ticks, ear mites, and scabies, so it might be a good idea to switch to Revolution for a couple of months.
1186396 tn?1264378747 t discount the fact that fleas might be the problem. Some pets are more sensitive and even allergic to flea saliva and will often show signs of excessive scratching, hair pulling, and hair barbering while other pets in the household are not affected. You can try to get a flea comb and comb one of the cats without the symptoms and see if you can find live fleas or flea dirt. This would be proof positive that fleas could be part of the problem.
Avatar n tn One of the signs of autism is not pointing when trying to communicate with adults about a desired object. For example, if the child wanted a toy elephant, instead of pointing to the elephant, the child would grab the adults hand and move the adults hand to the elephant and grab it. Is that what you see?
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
Avatar f tn Hello, Cat allergen, the allergy causing material from cats, is not cat hair, but rather a protein present in the dander and saliva of cats. These allergens become airborne as microscopic particles, which when inhaled into the nose or lungs can produce allergic symptoms. You can confirm whether you are allergic to cats by getting allergy testing done.Skin tests and blood tests like RAST are done for this purpose.Pls consult an allergist and get them done.
Avatar f tn As long as you watch the cat and down allow the the cat to sleep in your room you will be fine.
Avatar n tn The fat lip also is commonly secondarily infected with bacteria, so I would recommend a 2-3 week course of antibiotics if not already done. The three types of allergies are parasite (fleas, mites), food allergy, and pollen/dust allergies. If your cat is already on a good flea control such as Advantage or Revolution, then parasites are less likely.
1232362 tn?1333135406 I was hoping you would come along and answer - thanks FM. Don't you also give Akira a little Zyrtec?
541150 tn?1306033843 ll try to be very specific. Well I always thought that cat following its owner was typical of them...just very normal. Then I started reading words like separation anxiety and now I am left with a question. How do I know if Abby is having that? He obviously follows me around the house. When I'm gone, he wraps himself in my pijamas and purrs nonstop, and kneads as well. He meows when I leave.... I can hear him from outside. He eats when I'm there petting him.
Avatar f tn so animals and me go together My dad grew up with a cat allergy he couldnt be in a house where cats lived...he would get itchy, cough and sneeze but he grew out of it, because we now have four and they don't bother him...the last two years or so whenever i am near the cats i get the same symptoms my eyes water, cough, stuffy nose its like a sudden cold. Is it possible that i have received the same allergy my dad had? are allergics hereditary?
Avatar f tn How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!
Avatar f tn I think babies, toddlers need breast milk. Am not sure humans of any age need milk from other animals. Even though on occasion we use organic milk for when we make yogurt etc.
Avatar m tn If this were my cat, I would be taking him to an emergency vet right now. Also the position your cat is in tells me that he is uncomfortable. Get him to the vet asap. This sounds life threatening to me.
Avatar f tn You can experience episodes of tinnitus, vertigo and progressive hearing loss. Lymphatic channels in the inner ear are dilated and affect the drainage of fluid of the inner ear labyrinth/endolymph. Usually one ear is affected. There is no exact cause why this happens. I was initially diagnosed with this, but after a second opinion it was found that I didn't have it; I have Unresolved Labyrinthitis. So, please make sure the diagnosis is correct.
Avatar n tn I don't know if this is behavorial or allergies. My cat, female has been licking all her hair off for 6 mo now. This happened sortly soon after she got fixed. She has always been on the thin side. I use Frontline Plus here in Florida. She is totally an inside cat. Now she looks naked except for her head and the places she cannot reach to lick. I took her to a Value Vet once and they told me to give her some hormone. This Did Not Work!.
2169449 tn?1358489923 I take Zyrtec 10 mg tablet daily im allergic to my cat/ seasonal allergies etc.
Avatar f tn I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.
362249 tn?1441315018 Thats a really great idea I should ask! I dont feel my allergies are severe my SIL has had cats in her house and my allergies were not "killing me" where i couldnt stand it! sometimes i feel the need to get up and wash my hands but nothing too bad!! I do think if I follow the advice online about vacuuming my carpet and maybe getting a humidifier then i would be ok! they say its the dander released into the air that gets you!
4387114 tn?1355864612 My cat has been super clingy lately too! I think she just knows what's coming this time bc she was here for my last pregnancy...she should be surprised when I bring home two babies!
Avatar m tn Could not even stay with a cat in the room. I went to an alllergy specialist (in Turkey) and he prepared me a vaccination. It was not sold in the pharmacies, it was something he prepared). I did the vaccination for 4 years and my allergy is more bearable now. If I am in a cat environment I take my allergy pill and I am OK.. maybe you should change your doctor and take second opinion??
Avatar f tn I agree about the steroids. My cat's vet insists that cats process steroids differently than we do. Well, anyway, I couldn't afford to take the cat back to the vet check up that is required to get the prescription refilled. I do think my cat is better off with me just giving her 1/4 tablet of Zyrtec in a day when her allergies are bothering her the most. So, I'm not even giving it to her everyday. This is in line with what I do for myself with the antihistamine I use for myself.
