440120 tn?1211724496 Commonly, people start with allergies and either grow out of them (hence, childhood allergies) or keep them for life. However, it isn't uncommon for people to develop allergies later in life. One explanation is as you get older, your system works less efficiently, suffers small breakdowns, and allergies develop. There is also the possibility that due to air quality and pollen counts (both seem to get worse every year), you may be having a reaction where you didn't before.
Avatar n tn Otodectes, Cheyletiella, Scabies, etc, ringworm and other fungal infections, allergies (allergies to food can occur anytime in the life of a cat), bacterial skin infections, endocrine disorders and more. Ringworm, and some mites can be transmitted to people. Frontline does not treat mites. The topical: "Revolution" is for fleas, ticks, ear mites, and scabies, so it might be a good idea to switch to Revolution for a couple of months.
Avatar n tn You both sound like you have "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome", this can copy the symptoms of the mono, but it isn't. You will even have a high EBV reading with it. Here is a great site on it: http://www.cdc.gov/CFS/ More info: Definition By Mayo Clinic staff Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a complicated disorder characterized by extreme fatigue that may worsen with physical or mental activity, but doesn't improve with rest.
Avatar n tn We have a 16.5 year old Bermese-mixed cat, who is (within the last 10 days) losing her fur in clumps. She is an indoor cat. Our other cat, who's 16 was raised with her with no signs of the same condition affecting her. We have not changed her cat food and have not found any flea droppings on her at all. The only changes in the house, was a recent loss of our 13 yr old dog and an addition of a 7 mo puppy in December.
Avatar f tn Hello, Cat allergen, the allergy causing material from cats, is not cat hair, but rather a protein present in the dander and saliva of cats. These allergens become airborne as microscopic particles, which when inhaled into the nose or lungs can produce allergic symptoms. You can confirm whether you are allergic to cats by getting allergy testing done.Skin tests and blood tests like RAST are done for this purpose.Pls consult an allergist and get them done.
Avatar f tn Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.

Avatar n tn Today in revisiting and playing with a couple of cats I developed allergies. When I went home I played with my cat and the allergies returned. What could have caused this and should I adopt a new cat if I somehow now have cat allergies?
541150 tn?1306033843 ll try to be very specific. Well I always thought that cat following its owner was typical of them...just very normal. Then I started reading words like separation anxiety and now I am left with a question. How do I know if Abby is having that? He obviously follows me around the house. When I'm gone, he wraps himself in my pijamas and purrs nonstop, and kneads as well. He meows when I leave.... I can hear him from outside. He eats when I'm there petting him.
Avatar f tn How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!
362249 tn?1441315018 Thats a really great idea I should ask! I dont feel my allergies are severe my SIL has had cats in her house and my allergies were not "killing me" where i couldnt stand it! sometimes i feel the need to get up and wash my hands but nothing too bad!! I do think if I follow the advice online about vacuuming my carpet and maybe getting a humidifier then i would be ok! they say its the dander released into the air that gets you!
1186396 tn?1264378747 t discount the fact that fleas might be the problem. Some pets are more sensitive and even allergic to flea saliva and will often show signs of excessive scratching, hair pulling, and hair barbering while other pets in the household are not affected. You can try to get a flea comb and comb one of the cats without the symptoms and see if you can find live fleas or flea dirt. This would be proof positive that fleas could be part of the problem.
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
Avatar f tn As long as you watch the cat and down allow the the cat to sleep in your room you will be fine.
Avatar n tn The fat lip also is commonly secondarily infected with bacteria, so I would recommend a 2-3 week course of antibiotics if not already done. The three types of allergies are parasite (fleas, mites), food allergy, and pollen/dust allergies. If your cat is already on a good flea control such as Advantage or Revolution, then parasites are less likely.
Avatar m tn Keep in mind that in the sense of grains in reference to what is considered a grain to a cat, white potatoes are considered to be a "grain". So, you do not want a cat with food allergies to eat some hand out you've cooked for yourself that has had white potatoes in it. If you made something that is a meat based dish that has sweet potatoes in it and you want to give the cat a hand out of a piece of the meat in the food, that's okay. But: NO WHITE POTATOES.
Avatar f tn m usually pretty good about keeping him away from stuff he is allergic to, but once in a while he will get into the cat food (its our room mates cat so I can't expect them to buy expensive food made of lamb or something he isn't allergic to), or someone will slip him a treat when I'm not paying attention (he is also my service dog in training so he is around people a whole lot), or he will find something on the floor he can't have.
Avatar m tn If this were my cat, I would be taking him to an emergency vet right now. Also the position your cat is in tells me that he is uncomfortable. Get him to the vet asap. This sounds life threatening to me.
Avatar f tn You can experience episodes of tinnitus, vertigo and progressive hearing loss. Lymphatic channels in the inner ear are dilated and affect the drainage of fluid of the inner ear labyrinth/endolymph. Usually one ear is affected. There is no exact cause why this happens. I was initially diagnosed with this, but after a second opinion it was found that I didn't have it; I have Unresolved Labyrinthitis. So, please make sure the diagnosis is correct.
Avatar m tn Never had this happen before, I want to call my doctor this week and set up an appt to see if I can get a RAST test. Its a blood test of Ige in the blood. which would tell if I have allergies. Although allergy testing isnt always accurate,it can be at times and it can help. I heard magnesium rich foods, such as black beans and spinach can help lessen allergies. As well as massive Vit C..... Guess Ill try it and see what happens.
Avatar f tn I just learned that online you can BUY samples of cat fur from certain cat breeders. For about $13.00 with shipping!! These are for the hypoallergenic type of cat called ---> Siberian Cat ... apparently it has to do with its DNA of some sort in the dander not producing a certain element that the other breeds create which most cat allergic people are triggered by. Some even offer money back in two weeks if you are allergic once the pet is placed. You can buy some type of insurance.
Avatar n tn I don't know if this is behavorial or allergies. My cat, female has been licking all her hair off for 6 mo now. This happened sortly soon after she got fixed. She has always been on the thin side. I use Frontline Plus here in Florida. She is totally an inside cat. Now she looks naked except for her head and the places she cannot reach to lick. I took her to a Value Vet once and they told me to give her some hormone. This Did Not Work!.
