Side effects of synthroid medication

Common Questions and Answers about Side effects of synthroid medication

synthroid

Avatar n tn One thing you will notice if you look at the patient information that the pharmacy hands out with a new perscription of Synthroid, for example, is that most of the side effects listed are the symptoms of hypothyroidism. Why? Because during drug trials they were giving the drug to people that were hypothyroid. Their hair was already falling out, although maybe they didn't notice it until the clinician told them to report side effects of the new drug.
Avatar m tn I stopped the medication and took a natural supplement with did not help at all after 6 weeks of it. I decided to try the Synthroid at the lowest dose of 0.025mg but after just three days I'm getting hot flashes again. I was wondering which would be best, to take the .025mg every other day or to try half the pill every day. Any opinions or experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn My Endo told me when starting out on Synthroid and also each time he raises my dose that I may have some palpitations or "heart flutters." Each person is different. I have noticed them a bit, but nothing terrible. He said it should go away within a week or two after in your case, starting the med...in mine, when he raises it. Nothing to be alarmed about.
Avatar n tn Hello, it has been a year since my surgery and my TSH levels are still not normal and I still don't feel "right" I have been on 6 different medications with varying "side effects" from palpitations, sweating, insomnia, numbness/tingling, adic reflux, foggy head, blurry vision. First medication tried was .75 of Synthroid, then generics, Cytomel, Armour. Currently on .25 Levoxyl on 4 times per week.
Avatar n tn Pain to the point of using crutches where I have NO pain otherwise. Yet, the doctors are saying this pain is not a side effect of Metformin. I want this medication to work. Have you heard of such side effects? Also, I take my Synthriod at night before bed. Is this advisable or is there a "prime time" to take it?
Avatar f tn If your freet4 is good (right side of the bell), but your freet3 is low (left side of the bell) then conversion of the t4 med. (Synthroid) is your issue! If this is your case, then adding t3 in some form (dessicated, compounded or synthetic) will be needed. Good luck and be persistent! If your doctor won't take a closer look,(many won't) then find a new doctor who will. Only 100% of your health is okay! Accept nothing less!
Avatar f tn Please post the actual results of your FT3 and FT4 and their reference ranges. Ranges have to come from your own lab report since they vary from lab to lab. Your TSH of 9 is clearly hypothyroid. However, FT3 and FT4 are much more important in determining thyroid status than TSH. Your TPOab, at 500, is elevated, which indicates you have an autoimmune thyroid disease, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Brain fog is usually a result of being hypo, not of meds.
Avatar f tn But to go off all of your thyroid medication as well would make you dead tired and yet unable to sleep. Perhaps your doctor allowed you to have the Thyrogen injections? Using Thyrogen would allow you to continue taking your thyroid medication all along and thus you would have no symptoms of hypothyroidism because you wouldn't be indeed hypo. Clear as mud?
Avatar m tn Hi, I started taking Synthroid .075mg last weekend (Sunday),.
Avatar n tn in RARE instances, hair loss within the first few months of starting this medecine. This effect is usually temporary as your body adjusts to this medecine. Etc. Question: 1/ I read a lot about people loosing their hair. Does it grow back to its normal state? 2/ Is it common to GAIN weight while taking Synthroid? If so, how hard to go back to normal weight and after how long? 3/ Is it more difficult to get pregnant while on Synthroid?
Avatar f tn As gimel said, sometimes this can be done using a T4 medication, such as synthroid, generic levo, Tirosint. The active ingredient in each of these is identical to what your body produces, but both synthroid and generic levo have fillers/binders that can cause adverse reactions. Tirosint is a gel cap, whose only ingredients are the levothyroxine, water and glycerin. It's about as hypoallergenic as it gets.
Avatar n tn Just a guess and a thought...angina can be a side effect of Synthroid (or any other brand or generic levo). Google "synthroid + angina" if you'd like to read up and see if that seems to be what you're experiencing. Do you know your FT3, FT4 and TSH levels? And the FT3 and FT4 reference ranges? If you're slightly overmedicated (as defined by FT3, NOT TSH), it could be causing this.
Avatar n tn During times when he goes off of his medication for a few days - because we are waiting on the doctor to call in the prescription - he is a different man. He make lists of things to do -- and does them -- and he is more focused than ever. This has happened too many times to be a coincedence. Has anyone else experienced this same thing?
Avatar f tn Don't know why they should have different effects since they are both T4. Did you change anything else during the time you switched that could have affected absorption or conversion to T3? What were your FT4 and FT3 levels before and after the switch to Synthroid?
Avatar n tn m in the earliest phase and very scared of Synthroid now since I experienced such horrible side effects. Seems that is what all doctors prescribe and the only solution.....
1369218 tn?1282423884 We do not know what you did prior to the lab work, What you were taking in regards to dosage, If or not you were taking Cytomel and what mcg amount of Cytomel and what amount of Synthroid, Did you stop taking the Cytomel during the six week period prior to the labs?
Avatar f tn Was dx with Graves disease almost 12 yrs ago and had the radioactive iodine treatment at that time. Was placed on thyroid medication and seemed to tolerate it with no problems with allergic reactions. For the past 5 months I've been dealing with medication problems and difficulty adjusting my thyroid levels. It went over active and then underactive. I've been on both generic and brand name Levothyroxine.
