Common Questions and Answers about Side effects of synthroid in dogs

synthroid

Avatar f tn s, as we go through those swings to hyper mode - Mine only lasts a few days now instead of weeks, once we are in hyper mode, .75 mcg Synthroid might be too much, therefore, during those few days a month I'm hyper, I am probably overmedicated on .75. Still, I take my Synthroid and withstand a few days of mild palpatations, frequent bathroom, and little sleep. It isn't that bad for me. Not like it was last spring before I was on Synthroid.
Avatar n tn Some of the side effects reported vary due to different breeds & several other factors. We have 1 Rottweiler mix male & 2 rescued dogs (German Rottweiler female & American Rottweiler female). German Rotty was approx 2 y/o when rescued. She had her first seizure approx 2 months ago. Scared me to death. A month later she had another so I knew some of the signs before hand. My mixed male & American Rotty female were going crazy when the seizures occurred.
Avatar n tn Just a guess and a thought...angina can be a side effect of Synthroid (or any other brand or generic levo). Google "synthroid + angina" if you'd like to read up and see if that seems to be what you're experiencing. Do you know your FT3, FT4 and TSH levels? And the FT3 and FT4 reference ranges? If you're slightly overmedicated (as defined by FT3, NOT TSH), it could be causing this.
Avatar f tn Don't know why they should have different effects since they are both T4. Did you change anything else during the time you switched that could have affected absorption or conversion to T3? What were your FT4 and FT3 levels before and after the switch to Synthroid?
Avatar n tn I forgot to mention in my previous post that I was tested for antibodies and both ANA and the other antibodies test he conducted indicated early stage of Hashi's. I'm thinking that although 25mcg is a low dose of Synthroid, it was too high a dose for me to start on because my TSH wasn't that high and my thyroid gland is still producing a sufficient amount of hormone to keep me going. So is it possible to start treatment with Synthroid too soon?
Avatar f tn As Brucegoldberg says this can be a side effect of synthroid, armour, or any of the synthetics. Sometimes it is over dosage based, sometimes allergic, sometimes the body just doesn't seem to take artifical substitute without the side effects. This is exactly why I am not in surgery today, or already. I am risking somewhat in doing this, but I have always believed the devil you know is better than the one you don't, so I'll keep the devil I've got till it gives out entirely.
Avatar m tn I stopped the medication and took a natural supplement with did not help at all after 6 weeks of it. I decided to try the Synthroid at the lowest dose of 0.025mg but after just three days I'm getting hot flashes again. I was wondering which would be best, to take the .025mg every other day or to try half the pill every day. Any opinions or experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn If your freet4 is good (right side of the bell), but your freet3 is low (left side of the bell) then conversion of the t4 med. (Synthroid) is your issue! If this is your case, then adding t3 in some form (dessicated, compounded or synthetic) will be needed. Good luck and be persistent! If your doctor won't take a closer look,(many won't) then find a new doctor who will. Only 100% of your health is okay! Accept nothing less!
Avatar f tn My Endo told me when starting out on Synthroid and also each time he raises my dose that I may have some palpitations or "heart flutters." Each person is different. I have noticed them a bit, but nothing terrible. He said it should go away within a week or two after in your case, starting the med...in mine, when he raises it. Nothing to be alarmed about.
Avatar m tn 100 mcg generic levothyroxine could have between 75-125 mcg) This really matters with thyroid meds because the TSH needs to be kept in a very narrow range and a small difference in the amount of t4 you get can make a big difference in the TSH and how you feel. Also it is possible that a filler in the generic didn't sit well with you. Glad you are beginning to feel better.
Avatar m tn Hi, I started taking Synthroid .075mg last weekend (Sunday),.
Avatar n tn what side effects from thyrogen shots? I had pill uptake in Feb. my cancer is back, stage 3 pap. I got extremely sick from the pill, hopefully not so much from the injections. This discussion is related to Cancer's back, alternative treatment to going off synthroid?.
Avatar n tn in RARE instances, hair loss within the first few months of starting this medecine. This effect is usually temporary as your body adjusts to this medecine. Etc. Question: 1/ I read a lot about people loosing their hair. Does it grow back to its normal state? 2/ Is it common to GAIN weight while taking Synthroid? If so, how hard to go back to normal weight and after how long? 3/ Is it more difficult to get pregnant while on Synthroid?
Avatar n tn Hello, Has anyone else experienced a sore, swollen tongue and swollen and painful salivary glands after receiving RAI treatment? My taste buds are really messed up as well. I told my Endochrinologist about this and she says she's never heard of a swollen tongue as a side effect and told me it is unrelated. I have never had a swollen tongue in my life. She's making me feel like a freak! Is there anyone out there who has experienced tongue problems? If so, how long does it last?
Avatar f tn I kind of doubt it's the cerenia causing the drooling. It's more likely the stress that's causing it - a normal reaction in dogs to any kind of stress. While the cerenia can help with nausea and vomiting from motion sickness, it can't help with the mental end of it. Frequent breaks - like every 30 or 45 minutes on a long trip - can also help set the mental reset button. The good news is that most dogs who experience motion sickness as pups tend to outgrow it with practice.
894666 tn?1274097896 Your free T3 and free T4 are both on the low side of their range and although TSH is a poor indicator of hypothyroidism by itself, yours is above the currently recommended range of .3 - 3.0. If you will read my post to moinkhan, just below, I think you will find some valuable information about the importance of free T3, and its correlation to hypo symptoms. I would suggest that there's nothing evident above that you need a T3 only type med like Cytomel.
Avatar f tn My German Shepherd was recently prescribed incurin and it has caused her not to eat and a little bit aggressive and scared... She also was running around with her hackles up and starting fights with my other dogs...She only had 3 or 4 days of it and then I took her off of it this last Sunday was her last dose...She still is not wanting to eat and not 100% back to herself? How long do the side effects last...It was taking me an hour and a half to get her to eat 2 cups of food...
Avatar f tn Too bad about the cancer. I'm a member of that club too. Not one people clamor for... It's not clear to me via what you just wrote if you are still taking the Cytomel or if you went off when you started the LID. So you must be hypo. Some people can take longer to go seriously hypo (if you have indeed stopped the Cytomel). And some just don't feel it as much as others. I felt seriously slow and lacked energy for anything, but still couldn't sleep. Go figure.
Avatar f tn The whites of the eyes turn yellow, as do the insides of the ears and the relatively hairless part of the belly between the hind legs. In these areas where the hair is either extremely thin or almost nonexistent it is much easier to see the skin, and therefore easier to tell whether or not the skin has that tell-tale yellowish color. Maybe you could try putting a Buster Cube or other "educational" toy in with her.

378273 tn?1262097621 Afibs and sometimes weeks go by without an episode; but most of the time I get it about once a week; usually in the middle of the night. One time, one of my dogs woke me by bumping his nose to mine - I was having a run of really slow beats and I guess it scared him. Usually I have tachs though - hard to say which is more uncomfortable. Spicy foods brings it on as does stress, but not at the time of the stressful event; a few days later!
