20632981 tn?1503687567 My question is, does Prozac have low side effects like Zoloft but does it work better? And should I be taking a SSRI or SNRI for depression and anxiety, what works better with less side effects?
1798419 tn?1315810427 ve heard that some people lose weight on prozac, but some people who are skinny to begin with (like me) often gain weight with prozac. I've been off it for ages but have recently gone on it again. I'm having a hard time adjusting back to it as well. From what I remember, last time it took me about a month before the side effects went away. You could try mirtazapine (Avanza) it wont affect your sex drive. I tried it, but it made me way too drowsy.
Avatar n tn I recently started taking Abilify and am experiencing uncontrolled shaking and light-headedness. What are the side effects of Abilify and are these a couple of them. Should I try something else to help with my depression. THe Psych. said that this in concert with my prozac should help me out. Thanks for your help.
415867 tn?1323365503 These older types of antidepressants affect neurotransmitters, causing a broad range of side effects including significant weight gain. Newer antidepressants don’t have the same side effect. While Paxil and Zoloft do cause some weight gain, other SSRIs, like Prozac, Celexa and Lexapro, don’t. For Paxil and Zoloft, the weight gain can add up to five to 40 pounds a year. Some people do experience weight gain with Lexapro or Celexa, but most don’t.
Avatar f tn It can cause weight gain and it can cause weight loss. A lot of people have some fatigue with it so in that case you may be inclined to exercise less etc.. and therefore gain weight. However, over time, fatigue and other side effects usually fade away. How long have you been on it? After 2-3 months side effects are not terribly common.
Avatar f tn t want me to come off the prozac as it was working for me in lots of other ways. They prescribed me Alli, a weight loss aid, which I am reluctant to take. I have an appointmentwith my doctor tomorrow so I'll discuss with her again.
Avatar f tn Im on my second dose and have been reading about side effects and hair loss and weight gain are two of them that caught my attention. Has anyone in this community experienced any of the bad side effects? I realize most meds do have side effects but I dont wish to be on any that cause them in me anyway.
Avatar n tn i wish i knew what was wrong and could help- whenever i talk to my doctor she just ups my dose and tells me to give it more time. im now taking 40mg of fluextine (prozac). the other meds have worse side effects though, such as wieght gain- which for teenagers can be a big deal. make sure you research yourself before switching, and please keep me posted. i wish your son the best! i know what he's going through- it's a really rough time!
Avatar f tn Usually there are side effects, which should diminish with time. I found Prozac did not suit me at all, but it suits lots of other people. My side effects were so bad I had to stop the 10mg dose within a few weeks. We all react differently to drugs, what suits one person, may not suit another. You have not been on Prozac long, so you may need to give it time to get into your body. If you really think the side effects are too bad, then I suggest you go back to the doctor.
Avatar n tn Next day I started taking 80 mg Prozac and withdrawal effects diminished. Also stopped gaining weight but cannot lose the pounds I gained during Effexor. After 3 weeks with Prozac I feel very tired all day, even after sleeping 15 hours or more. And depression came back and hit me. I don´t know what to do.
Avatar f tn I remember being a puffy mute on lexapro and zyprexa. Not only was my usual 130 pound jewish frame elevated to 170 within months I felt suicidal for the first time in my life. I found a combo of wellbutrin/zoloft that seems to serve me well. After hearing my complaints of fatigue he added adderall. It does help but it's but you can develop tolerance fairly quickly and it's drawing on your body's essential vitality (chi) to do this.
Avatar f tn Most psychiatric medications have the side effect of weight gain - some more than others. The thing you have to watch is if your food intake increases or not. A lot of times your appetite and your beverage desire will increase causing weight gain. Sometimes it is just the medication that does it.
Avatar m tn ll have to go through getting off Paxil after such a long period of use. Prozac is said to not have the weight gain problem, but if your problem is anxiety, Prozac probably won't be as good. No way of knowing, but that's generally true. Lexapro also is known for fewer side effects, but it has its effects and it might not work for you and it too can cause weight gain. The question is, do you still need the Paxil after 10 years?
Avatar n tn in RARE instances, hair loss within the first few months of starting this medecine. This effect is usually temporary as your body adjusts to this medecine. Etc. Question: 1/ I read a lot about people loosing their hair. Does it grow back to its normal state? 2/ Is it common to GAIN weight while taking Synthroid? If so, how hard to go back to normal weight and after how long? 3/ Is it more difficult to get pregnant while on Synthroid?
Avatar f tn I have tried many antidepression medication with severe side effects; gastritis and weight gain. I am presently on 20mg Prozac which is ok on my stomach but is ineffective with the depression and of course weight gain. I'm thinking of trying Zoloft. Does it bother your stomach. I've pretty much accepted the weight gain, but can't handle the stomach pain & depression. Ialso take 0.5mgof Ativan daily. Any advise?
Avatar m tn ve never heard of Vyvanse. It sounds to me like you may be experiencing side effects of Prozac. It might be an idea to go to your family doctor and tell her or him about the symptoms you're experiencing. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I am having side effects from Wellbutrin Sr after one week: Had to lower dose because of insomnia, but now feel Nasty agitation, increased anxiety, atpical depression. This has been only ONE week. I have read of some people who said this med can be a bit tricky in the beginning, others who discontinued. I was unable to reach my doctor.
Avatar n tn I am searching for something to assist me next time I try to get off of these pills- a doctor I had once told me that she gave one-or two weeks of Prozac to assist with the side effects from getting off of medications- something about a long half-life? Help!
Avatar n tn drowsiness, dizziness, weakness; runny nose, sore throat, headache, flu symptoms; nausea, diarrhea, changes in appetite; weight changes; decreased sex drive, impotence, or difficulty having an orgasm; or dry mouth, increased sweating. You can read more about this through this link: http://www.drugs.com/prozac.html Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn Any anti-depressant, should be weaned off of since we are all different and may react differently if it is stopped abruptly. If you have already stopped it, and aren't having any problems, then you are fine. I do agree that you proably wouldn't have any significant problems stopping it abruptly, but always better to be safe. Anti-depressants are known to kill your sex drive, but you can be given something that counteracts this side effect.
877371 tn?1240237527 the first two you listed are for weight loss and i dont think your supposed to really combine them
Avatar f tn Do any of you have any experience with Prozac and Lamictal as far as weight or loss?
Avatar f tn re most likely going through some withdrawal from the Paxil. You could also be having start up side effects from the Prozac. If we do get start up side effects it can be hard to say how long they'll last. I'm not sure what advice I can give you as far as what med to take. Maybe give the Prozac a little more time but if the side effects keep up or get worse then see your Dr.
Avatar f tn re feeling is withdrawal, a return of what drove you to be on meds in the first place, or side effects of the new drug. Prozac is sometimes used at low dosage at the end of a difficult taper off a med to get you off the old med and onto Prozac because Prozac stays in the body longer than other SSRIs and is for that reason thought to have fewer withdrawal problems.
