Side effects of methadone medication

Common Questions and Answers about Side effects of methadone medication

methadose

Avatar f tn It could be a side effect of the methadone or even an allergic type reaction to it. I remember when I took Macrobid (antibiotic) for a urinary infection, I had a high fever (102.3) every time I would take it, so I called my doctor's office and they told me to stop it immediately because I was having an allergic reaction to it. As it turned out, my father had had this same type of reaction to it a couple years before.

175734 tn?1225134440 The ones I have heard have the fewest side effects are Methadone and Suboxone, but there also the ones that have terrible withdrawls. But may people say that methadone works better than anything they've tried so are willing to take the trade off. I have also heard so little negative about Opana ER like TrayCee mentioned. Everyone I've talked to who takes it has said it has really worked nicely for them. But like mentioned above, everyone reacts differently to meds.
Avatar n tn i am on 95mg of methadone and am now perscribed soma 350mg what are the side effects
Avatar f tn are these the side effects of someone on methadone????cause i dont understand how i can be so talkative in the past and have such a strong personilty.. then turn into a zombie with no emotions, is this what happens after taking the pill for a while.. as i said im a 26 beautiful women.( i dont feel that way but i have men talking to me constantly,) get compliments daily.
Avatar m tn I actually just went to a funeral of a guy who did that a few months ago (xanax and methadone). In fact, in just the last 2 - 3 years in my area I have personaly known 3 people who have died from that, but there have been many many more. I am not sure how long darvocet stays active, but methadone is a LONG acting medicine and it may not matter if you take the doses 12 or even 24 hours apart. Stay safe!
Avatar f tn For some who get great analgesia from methadone, other medications can help with the side effects. For example, I used ritalin for the years I was using methadone. It kept me from falling asleep behind the wheel, and improved my ability to reason, greatly. If the methadone is a good pain reliever (for me, it was the best), ask your doctor if he/she would be willing to try a stimulant medication like long acting methylphenidate or Adderral XL to minimize your methadone side effects.
Avatar n tn Usually the attending physician gives information regarding the possible side effect of the drug while prescribing the medication. It could also be Arthritis due to many causes. Are you the one suffering with or some one else? Hope to hear you back with these details or consult your doctor. Take care.
Avatar n tn Have you noticed any side effects on Clonazepam or Lexapro? I am on 10 mg of Lexapro for a while now and added 1 mg of Clonazepam 2 monts ago. I noticed that I get twitches in my fingers and sometimes my fingers shake a little. Does this familiar to anyone?
Avatar f tn I called the Drs office today and he said these symptoms could not be from the med. I did research possible side effects a couple of days ago and these can indeed be side effects. Now, I'm not sure what to do. I was hoping he would recommend another med to try because on top of the stomach pain I'm having the bladder pain, tiredness and weakness. I guess my question is this. Has anyone had these side effects and if so did they go away?
1311475 tn?1274198780 I can understand building up a tolerance to the medication but not having all of these symptoms and side effects with whatever medication I take. I didn't think taking docusate would give me more constipation or pain in my joints. The doctors I have been seeing don't have a clue as to what is happening with my body or the meds, I need to know what kind of Doctor I need to be referred to to fix this problem, I am now itching from taking Docusate and Mobic.
Avatar f tn I am on methadone (prescribed to me, NOT recreational), and I really wanted an outside opinion of whether there would be any major side effects/complications because of this. I'm just wondering if there's any data/evidence suggesting that methadone can cause complications with this type of surgery..to the extent that the surgery can't/shouldn't be done. I am on 40mgs a day, and it is the ONLY medication that I take. I want to have this surgery done...
Avatar n tn Masochism If you do not want to suffer from any of the above side effects do not start methadone treatment. Those are just a few of the symptoms you will experience. I could be more comprehensive but if you have questions I will be glad to answer. My suggestion is that if you suffer from both Add/narcolepsy and chronic pain go with an oc meds or try a Thebiane based opiod/opiate that is drugs like oxycontin, hydrocodone or Bupenorphine.
Avatar n tn I am 39yrs old and have been on methadone for approx 12-15yrs. This has proven to be the biggest life changing mistake i have ever made. I have not touched heroin for approx 10yrs,but between then and roughly a year ago,i also was addicted to valium, temazepam, and finally crack cocaine.
Avatar n tn t live with the side effects, and want off of meds. The side effects of methadone is much greater than other meds, you will have severe constapation that requires meds, possible urine retention, and sexual side effects. Methadone was the worst medicine I ever took!
Avatar n tn I know pain mgt docs often perscribe methadone and oxy together I believe to help offset the addiction-methadone is essentially a medication used to help stop withdrawls from heroin but has pain-relieving proerties to it.Supposedly without the "high" (although there are plenty here that will attest otherwise). Not sure if this answered your question?Do a little research on the health pages as well as read some of the other posts...there is much to be learned hre so stay with us!
Avatar n tn Hello Sickmadaboutmeds, Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. I am glad that you have found us on MedHelp but sorry to hear about your pain and medication issues. I too survived what was considered a non-survivable MVA, only I was in a vehicle when I was struck by a loaded dump truck. Indeed my family was told repeatedly by the team of physicians that I would not survive. I fooled them all but attribute my recovery to divine intervention.
Avatar n tn Opiates effect everyone differently- and the side effects and half lives of the medication can increase interactions/side effects. That being said - it sounds as if your prescribed dosing is 1-5 mg OxyContin and 1-5 mg methadone tablet TWICE per day- is that correct? Then on top of your prescribed doses- you are self medicating by taking 2 or three times the daily amount in addition- you are TRULY lucky you have not wound up dead or in the hospital from overdosing.
