1190279 tn?1324936257 Hi! Doctors will prescribe either clomid or letrozole to assist with ovulation. There's two main differences: it doesn't have anti-estrogenic side effects like clomid; and although studies have proven letrozole is an effective fertility drug it hasn't been approved by the FDA yet for fertility use, thus isn't covered by insurance (beware it's very expensive). Letrozole was developed to treat estrogen-sensitive breast cancers.
Avatar n tn I tried clomid as well a couple of years ago, with very similar side effects as you describe. The fertility specialist I am seeing now put me on Letrozole. Letrozole is actually a drug used for women with breast cancer. One of the 'side effects' is that it stimulates ovulation. Of course the dose you take for fertility purposes is much lower compared to taking it for breast cancer. I did a little research on my own and found that Letrozole is actually much safer than clomid.
Avatar f tn I have just been diagnosed with breast cancer and have been offered a trial on Letrozole before and after surgery along with radiotherapy. I would appreciate knowing any side effects when taken along with Lithium and mood swings suffered if any.
Avatar f tn unsuccessfully and like you , had horrible side effects including a thin lining.. I did do a Letrozole a.k.a Femara cycle and though wasn't pregnant..I definitely felt much better than with Clomid....and I have heard a lot of people get success with femara when clomid doesn't work for them!
Avatar f tn I can tolerate Letrozole and Duphaston without any problems. But Progynova gives me horrible side effects: dizziness, extreme low energy level and anxiety attacks (never had anxiety before). I was just wondering if Progynova can indeed give these side effects and if there are any other drugs that can stimulate the thickening of my uteral lining.
Avatar n tn ) it has fewer side effects than clomid for most people - no thining of your uterine lining like clomid, and it doesnt' dry up cervical mucus like clomid either.. i've personally never taken clomid, but they say that people have fewer hot flashes while on femara too.... we took femara 2.5mg once a day for two cycles, then upped it to 5mg once a day in combination with follistim and IUI's and got our BFP.. unfortunately miscarried but i will be starting that combo again tonight!
1626928 tn?1378850167 5mg two times a day of femara/letrozole and 1500mg a day metformin. I am curious about side effects, advice, success stories, etc. I am anxious and have been TTC for 3 years total, 2 with a doctors assistance. THANK YOU in advance.
Avatar m tn Hi, All aromatase inhibitors may cause side effects, but some people can better tolerate the side effects of these drugs, while others cannot.Check with your Doctor/Oncologist if another similar drug might be better suited for you if any of these most common side effects persist or become bothersome when using Letrozole (Brand name Femara). Please check the link below for more information concerning the side effects. http://www.drugs.com/sfx/letrozole-side-effects.
1340383 tn?1309990914 I was on Clomid but asked my RE about Letrozole because I have a friend who got pregnant twice on second round of IUI with Letrozole. RE said it was merely doctor preference. My RE has higher success rates with clomid so that's what he prescribes, but his partner in the same clinic uses Letrozole almost exclusively. I'm sure that wasn't very helpful... but thought I'd share.

Avatar f tn HI, Having no response to letrozole indicates that this is the time to switch over to another drug for induction of ovulation. Also you are having side effects. Hence proper induction of ovulation under medical supervision an ultrasonographic monitoring should be done. Consult an infertility expert for an evaluation. Hope this helps.
256553 tn?1258883918 Has anyone ever used Letrozole? Was it beneficial? Did you get a BFP? Any side effects?
Avatar m tn We are glad you are on to maintenance therapy for your previous cancer! Typically, letrozole does have a favorable side effect profile in relation to toxicity. This doesn't mean it is side effect free, however. The trade off is that it does appear affective in terms of prolonging recurrence.
1773487 tn?1331540488 i did use Letrozole for 6 cycles...but no BFP...there were no side effects either....just got cramps during those entire cycles...i know 2 of my patients who used d same...one of them who had PCOD concieved with timed intercourse n letroz...d other who had endo like me didn't...however she got preggo by ICSI...Letroz is now banned in several countries but here in India its widely used....
Avatar n tn am, Tamoxifen is a drug that blocks the action of the hormone estrogen. Side effects of this drug may include : nausea, hot flashes, weight gain or headache. (http://www.medicinenet.com/tamoxifen-oral/article.htm) FEMARA (letrozole tablets) is approved for the adjuvant treatment of postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive early breast cancer.
Avatar f tn I met with the nurse for a while and she put me on a prescription of Letrazole for the next 4 days, and she told me I'll come back for a week for an ultrasound, and that if my follicles are responding to the meds, that this cycle, and if my sonogram next week doesn't show any bad stuff, that this cycle, they will do insemination!!! I'm freaking out a bit! This so wasn't my plan! I was all ready just to do meds.
Avatar f tn There aren't side effects to masturbating, it's normal. Your body constantly remakes sperm, you won't run out, no side effects. But be careful if you watch porn or have other stimulants, you will start getting bored with it and may need more strange or extreme things to get off.
1287560 tn?1272216521 Yes this med is to reduce elevated prolactin levels. My first gynecologist unnecessarily gave me this meds. I knew nothing was going fine then switched doc's. Then got to know that my prolactin level was perfectly fine. I am glad I changed the doc's. What did your doc say to u about the meds?
Avatar f tn Femara works on a different hormone then Clomid and is not suppose to have any of those side effects. I did 4 cycles of Clomid on the lowest dosage and 1 of Femara on the lowest dosage. The Clomid did dry up what little CM I did have and made me a little moody. I didn't notice any of that with the Femara.
Avatar m tn He advice to treat him with Letrozole but I am not finding any information about this medication. I saw some blogs on web and many of them states 'Not for Children" so I am very concern. I am also worried about my son if he should be treated for bone age or should i let me progress naturally? Dr. concern is his final height. They feel if he is treated by Letrozone, it will delay his growth plate which will allow him to grow much longer. I am looking for help here.
Avatar n tn By the way, I always like to look at the positive side of the miscarriage--you now know that you CAN get pregnant! If it can happen once, it can happen again. Maybe it already has! Good luck!
1640824 tn?1325888415 My fertility doctor put me on 2.5 letrozole days 3-7. Has anyone got pregnant with this medicine? How long did it take?
Avatar f tn My husband and I have been trying for almost 1 year. I was on Clomid for 6 months and last cycle switched to Letrozole. Now my period is 4 days late and 2 pregnancy tests say NEGATIVE - this is killing me! My OB has told me I will have to take progesterone to bring on my period. Has anyone else had a late period due to Letrozole or had negative PG tests but turned out they were PG? Thank you.
1340383 tn?1309990914 I have tried clomid in the past about 6 times also with no success, my Dr put me on letrazole and i became pregnant on second attempt unfortunately it ended in a miscarriage Nov09 but I know now i can get pregnant. So try it out I am now recently back on it and I believe it will work again, they say letrozlole wont dry you out like clomid so that's another plus...
