Side effects of celexa in children

Common Questions and Answers about Side effects of celexa in children

celexa

Avatar n tn I belong to a support group for teachers and parents of children suffering from anxiety. Many of the children take medication - including Celexa. About four children in our group are on this medication (all in conjuction with intervention and/or therapy). For these children, this "drug" seems to work the best with the fewest side effects. Our child takes Celexa - before that Prozac and Effexor. Celexa is the best one for her - so far.
Avatar m tn I do not think what you are experiencing is a side effect of the Celexa....although I am not an MD, I have taken Celexa myself and read thuroughly on the known side effects. I would talk to a doctor immediately.
Avatar f tn Has anybody gotten a stuffy head and "funny feeling" eyes as a side effect from SSRI's. I have had these side effects before but they went away after a month or so. I'm on Celexa and this stuffy feeling(like you are coming down with a cold) seems to be sticking with me. The med is working well except for this uncomfortable feeling in and around my eyes.
Avatar f tn So today my Celexa dose was upped from half a pill to 1 whole pill and the side effects are coming back like when I first started... Sweaty, can't sleep, headache, stiff neck, clenching teeth... Etc. I don't know what to do. I tried taking stuff for it, including an Oxy but still no change. What can I take to make these side effects not so bad? I don't see the dr till Thursday, so I can't ask her... If anyone has any suggestions?
Avatar f tn Did you taper off the vibryd or quit abruptly? You can't just switch from one medication to another even in the same class and avoid withdrawal -- these meds are not easy to stop taking and it must be done carefully. Unless you completely stop taking a medication before starting another it's impossible to tell if your symptoms are a sign you're suffering withdrawal and quit too quickly or are side effects of the new medication.
Avatar n tn Do you think it wise bringing a baby/ child into that environment? It's a hard call and one only you (?and your husband, partner, so) can make in consultation with your own doctor. I knew someone in a similar situation and she tried to harm her fetus while pregnant and later her daughter attempted suicide (due to the environment the mother raised her in). Are you in therapy to help address the anxiety?
Avatar f tn But I will tell you that Lexapro and Celexa are far more known for the sweating problem than Zoloft is -- it is one of the more common side effects of both Celexa and even more with Lexapro, and I got it from both of them.
Avatar n tn I am wondering if anyone has any of the sexual side effects? Prozac was the first med I was given about 2 years ago and I felt dead to the world and had terrible sexual side effects. I had to stop them. My doc said I may get them since Celexa is in the same category of meds. If I do then we can try something else.
Avatar f tn ve also had the tingling and numbness in my arm, but never the slurring of speech and drooping of one side of the mouth....this sounds more like a stroke. These types of medications will normally take 4-6 weeks for you to see an improvement, so keep in mind that each day is bringing you closer to feeling better. There is an adjustment period where things get worse before they get better, so hang in there and give the medication time to do it's job.
Avatar f tn m angry that he has put me on atenolol to counteract the side effects of bupropion. What is going to fight the side effects of the atenolol? I do not want to be a walking pharmacy.
1160764 tn?1267113859 I think that just being a mom (caretaker, housekeeper, cook, nurse, choffer, teacher, advisor, woman, lover) and the many roles and responsibilities of just being a mom at times leaves little time and just plain ol tired for the romance department and I also feel that the Ativa, Celexa and any other combinations of medication might have side effects. I recommend that you contact your gyne with your concerns.
Avatar m tn My last Celexa dose was last Wednesday and this is Wednesday, a week later. The side effects of the drug continue as before. I am not having the electric zaps which are apparently a withdrawal symptom. Instead, I have just continued to feel the same side effects as when I was taking the drug. Not as bad but still pretty uncomfortable. Ironically, my insomnia is gone and I'm am sleeping well now. Has anyone out there experienced this with such a short course of Celexa (Citalapram)?
Avatar f tn ve recently been prescribed Celexa (I plan to do about 20 mg for 9 months to a year). I know that Celexa, like any SSRI, causes sexual side effects like low libido, erectile dysfunction, and anorgasmia. My question is: Will these side effects wear off after I stop the Celexa? Can anyone who has experience with Celexa or other SSRIs tell me if their sexual side effects wore off after the treatment was over?
Avatar m tn s usually not used for those suffering from a lot of anxiety except as an adjunct to ssris to help with some of the more common side effects, in which case a low dose is added to the ssri. Good luck with it. By the way, it's also true what was said above -- it could resolve itself over a period of weeks as the Celexa sets in and your body becomes more used to it, and all meds can have unpleasant side effects, but that doesn't mean this was done correctly.
Avatar f tn I know that I am still having depression symptoms while just taking the Welbutrin but I am just so afraid of the side-effects of celexa type drugs, I hate being so dependent on it.
Avatar n tn Her doctor placed her on Effexor for two-three years with moderate success but some side effects as sweating and poor sleep issues. She now takes a very low dose of Celexa and is doing well. If it were me, I think I might choose point (3) with one of the newer SSRI's (they tend to have fewer side effects). Nonetheless, there is no correct answer. Hope this helps ....
Avatar f tn Have any of you noticed a difference between 10 mg and 20 mg of Celexa. I took Celexa in the past and was on 20 mg. This time I'm only taking 10 mg and I still have mild anxiety/depression.
Avatar n tn First it was zoloft that has awful sexual side effects, and in turn would cause problems with my husband. Now I am on celexa which I absolutely HATE!!! I am so tired. I have four children and I dread everyday that i have to get up. I do not have any energy nor motivation to do anything no matter how hard i try. My doctor now wants to switch me to lexapro which is not on the $4 plan. I do not want to keep switching from one to another. Does anyone know how lexapro is?
Avatar m tn Just keep in mind that ALL psycotropic types of medications have side effects (BAR NONE) and to the degree in which you will get them just depends on your personnal biology. For example; I can take any AD medication on the market and not get side effects that are too severe, or as I call them "deal breakers." BUT, the one I can not tolerate is Cymbalta because it gives me horrible side effects that are too many to count.
Avatar f tn I have had resistance to most depression meds. I used Lexapro for several years until it stopped having any effect. My doctor suggested citalopram. I tried it and ended up very anxious plus my heart rate shot up. I stopped the meds per her advice and went off all meds for a bit. I just started a very low dose of citalpram again and my pulse shot up again. Is this common? It isn't listed under side effects. Thanks.
Avatar m tn I don't think I can handle the side effects and the anxiety that has come along because of them. I just want these thoughts out of my head. I'm tired of thinking these side effects could be a disease.
Avatar m tn I have been taking 40 mg of Celexa for a number of years. The Dr. has told me to reduce it to 20 mg. I was wondering if there would be any side effects that I should know about while adjusting to the smaller dose?
518117 tn?1429276273 My son Todd was in prison for 5 yrs. Was given 100mg. of Celexa the 5 yrs. he was in prison. Asked the nurse at the counseling center he was going to, would the overdose by 40mg. for 5 yrs., cause my son to have any problems. The nurse told me that this extra 40mg. would not make a difference or hurt Todd. That it would just cancel itself out. I hope someone can prove me wrong on this. BUT, I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT GIVING SOMEONE AN EXTRA 40mg.
202436 tn?1326474333 I was taking Celexa when I was pregnant. I had been on them for a year and then off them for 6 months before getting pregnant. I was 5 months pregnant when I went back on Celexa. I had a very long discussion with my doctor before I went back on meds. The risks to having depression seemed to much outweigh the risks to taking meds. At the time (3 years ago) my doctor said that there was a recently released study on Celexa during pregnancy and that the results were very good.
671285 tn?1292660161 In between bouts of happiness and feel-good moments were fits of uncontrollable crying and feelings of nervousness in the pit of my stomach (feelings of a dropping sensation like when you are riding on a roller coaster). I felt uncomfortable with this kind of depression so I decided that I would need further assistance to aid in dealing with it because I could no longer do it on my own.
Avatar m tn Try to stay in close contact with your doctor to stay on top of all side effects. I was on Celexa for a while and had to stop taking it because of sexual side effects and really bad constipation. Good luck!
Avatar n tn His teacher and myself (my son too) have noticed a postitive change in his work output at school and during homework sessions. Two of the side effects are of great concern to me. My son can't sleep until well after 10:30 pm. (we are trying Melatonin, but haven't found the right dosage). The other side effect that is most troubling is the loss of appetite. When we went to see his specialist, 6 days ago, he'd lost 4.5 lbs (in 40 days).
