Dear Piezy,eventually the symptoms of headaches,be from radiation or Arimidex will in time subside, due to the fact that the body gets used to it .I do some breathing exercises,take a pain killer,and especially I try not to focus so much on the side effects....I found that every time I pity myself and get stressed out, things get worse.My sister had radiation and is taking Arimidex (2 years now) and the side effects have considerably lessened.I hope it will happen to us also.
The Doctor said I should take Advil for the pain and that things will get better. Everyone that I know has taken themselves off of this med due to the side effects. I am 58 yrs old. and I feel like a 100 lately being on this medication.

Shortly after I started the drug, I started having hot flashes and bad leg cramps. My doctor then prescribed Effexor for those side effects. I started at 37.5 mg and worked up to 75mg which I took for 5 years. A month ago he changed my prescription to 37.5 mg and said to stop once the medicine ran out. I took my last pill 3 days ago. I feel horrible. I have nausea, dizziness, a swoshing feeling when I turn my head from side to side and just feel bad overall. I have been cranky and moody.
But women are much more plagued by that than men. In fact, Precocious puberty is much more common in girls in general so a lot of what you read about it is geared toward girls. If you are wanting your child to grow more, prolonging full puberty could work for you. But yes, I'd expect some side effects. Hard decision.
I'm not sure that your problems can be the result of Arimidex. There are other drugs and each and every one has basically the same side effects BUT not all are always experienced by every person ... also many even though a factor, are not experienced to the same degree. You might take this up with your Oncology Team in detail. You should remember though that this may be totally unrelated to Arimidex or any other aromatase inhibitor. Regards ....
Armidex may not prolong his growth period much longer with such an advanced bone age, it is a medication used to block estrogen effect, also used in breast cancer, there are concerns with the liver but if monitored carefully most have few side effects. However with a bone age of 17 1/2 growth is near completion. I would work with the peds endocrinologist and talk with them to discuss your concerns, plan of care and monitoring.
s possible that you could be switched to another medication but keep in mind that most drugs of this type can have the same side effects. As far as needing to be on one of these drugs; you always have to weigh the benefit compared to the side effects and make a decision as to continue the drug or not. Your Oncologist would be able to advise you since he/she has all the medical information necessary to make such a decisiion.
I have had minimal obvious side effects, but some tough not so obvious side effects. It seems the longer I am on it, the side effects have been creeping in. I now have trigger thumb, hands are stiff. Had a bad fall in October, landing on my back and causing compression fractures in several vertebrae. I believe the anastrzole is complicating my recovery. Struggle with higher thought processes and memory issues.
However, considering the alternatives.....the AI has not been so bad.
Is painfful intercourse a common side effect of Arimidex? I even have pain from just touching the vaginal area, plus burning from contact to various soaps except Ivory. Will this go away when I get off of Arimidex in 3 more years?

I saw my eye doctor again last week and my vision has deteriorated from 20/40 to 20/70 (with correction) in just a few months. Eye problems are not listed as a side effect of Arimidex in any of the information I have been given, but I am wondering if this could be a less common side effect. Is this something I should discuss with my oncologist?
The endocrinologist wants to put him on that. I'm reading side effects and I don't feel comfortable giving it to him. I am going for second opinion. Just wanted to see if any other parents had experience with this drug.
Well, for me Arimidex was so very horrible, I barely lasted three days on it. I was in an almost catatonic state of depression two hours after I took the first dose, and then got just about every other bad side effect soon after.
Femara, in comparison, relative to the other, was not so bad at all and I lasted almost thirty days.
But not every woman has the same problems, or any at all. Many though do have some problems.
Is the additional 3% improvement in recurrence-free survival worth the potential long term side effects brought about by the chemotherapy? Some of the adverse effects of Taxotere may be long lasting, such as the intermittent muscle cramps and the numbness/pain/ tingling at the tips of the fingers and toes.
Arimidex does have fatigue as one of it's side effects while Herceptin does cause weakness but I doubt what you are experiencing is from your treatment in 2009. I would think that Arimidex is the culprit in this case. Regards ....
My friend has been taking Arimidex for two years and has all the usual side effects--hot flashes, muscle aches, lack of sleep but, in spite of all her exercising and walking and careful eating, all of the weight gain has been in her stomach and she is at a loss of what to do to lose it. Nothing seems to work and she's very unhappy with that particular location? Anyone else know of weight gain from the drug at that spot specifically?
