Avatar n tn There is a mixed view on when to do a valve operation. The Mayo Clinic's renown heart surgery states publically that the biggest problem he see is that the patient waited too long. Waiting too long can require an operation when the left ventricle is enlarged and that condition would reduce the EF, and an operation subsequently the EF may never return to normal function.

Avatar n tn My mother had a mitral valve replacement , on the operation table half way through the op the cannular in the right groin had dislodged .. the surgeon attempted to recannulate into the same vien with no success. His explanation was that he thought the fixation of the arterial line was adequate with the line sutured to the skin. I know that this is a known complication but very rare , in saying this my mum suffered hypoxia . The down time was 13-15min.
Avatar f tn Although SVT is generally not life-threatening in an otherwise normal heart, symptoms from the racing heart may feel quite uncomfortable. These arrhythmias are common in young people.
Avatar f tn Many individuals following open heart surgery have a memory problem for about 6 months post operation. Open heart surgery puts the individual on heart and lung machine so the fibrosis is probably not an issue during the operation. The main problem with the heart is the valve orifice and that can be corrected without open heart surgery (sometimes). The aorta regurgitation can be the cause of shortness of breath as well as the pulmonary issue. What is the operation expectation.

Avatar m tn I had an ECG and an MRI about a year ago, both of which came back normal. My question is - would the heart MRI I had have shown the areas around the heart? I am wondering if there could be an abnormality in perhaps the vessels around the heart, a blockage of somekind etc. causing my heart to skip/jump/flutter and cause odd sometimes painful popping sensations in my chest?
Avatar m tn Your husband's heart is not meeting the body's system for blood/oxygen, and that will cause chest pains (angina) as the heart is not receiving a good supply of blood also a symptom of shortage of blood supply. Leg pain can be due to blood clots Hypertension should be controlled with medication.

Avatar f tn I've had heart palpitations for 10 months, they started right after a hiatus hernia operation. I get them everyday. I get them at different times, while watching tv or just relaxing in bed, doing normal everyday things. I had blood work done and was told I was low on B12 and was told to take 1000 mcg of a supplement daily. While taking it the palpitations got stronger so I stopped taking it and they eased up.
Avatar m tn I recently had a double bypass operation and recovered pretty quickly, about rwo months after my surgery, I developed shortness of breath and get very winded when I walk or do any kind of exercise, it is worse at night when I am laying down, all this happened after my surgery, could the bypass have anything to do with it? Avatar n tn ed34's post is accurate in my opinion. ECG's are not always accurate, but they do indeed show heart issues. I'd have a stress test to check out the ECG's accuracy, or at least ask for a second ECG. I've had cataract surgery, and indeed, it is an emotional event. I'd cover Mom's bases if possible with a stress test.
Avatar m tn Kidney problems after bypass surgery can occur but the majority recover. It is also common for shortness of breath during recovery. Some patients take several weeks or even months for this to resolve. This does not mean they shouldn't run tests to establish it isn't a problem with the bypass vessels.
